Another hard-working week we have had in Year 2!

In RE, we continued our focus on friendship.  For our class activity, each child picked a name out of a hat and were asked to make a friendship card for them.  The children loved ?surprising one another with their cards and especially enjoyed reading what had been written about them.  As a result, the class could see why they are all such good friends to one another in Year 2. This learning was further embedded in our PHSE lessons.

With the story ‘The Dragon Machine’ now finished, the children began writing their own versions but with a twist! The children loved creating their own mystical creatures and have used some really exciting vocabulary to describe them in their work.   As this week is National Storytelling Week, there was no better way to celebrate it, than for the children to share their stories with the rest of the class. They did a wonderful job, captivating their friends with their tales.

In Maths, we have been learning about division. Next week, we will be looking at the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.  You can support your child at home by practising 2,5 and 10 times tables - our virtual classroom shares some good links.

In History this week, we continued our topic ‘What is life like as the Queen of England?’. We looked at the changes in the Victorian period, as well as what life was like in school during this time. In Science, we continued our topic ‘Young Gardeners’ and planted our own seeds, which we have now put in different places to see what affects their growth. We are really looking forward to seeing if our predictions are correct in the coming weeks. In Art, we continued to look at different types of paper and even got to create our own stain glass windows. The children carefully ripped the paper to a small size and then glued it neatly onto acetate paper. We were all really impressed with their wonderful creations.

In our music lessons, the children have enjoyed learning a new note to play in our recorder sessions with Mrs McCardle and despite how fast Encanto's 'Family Madrigal' song is in parts, the children are enjoying the challenge with Miss Dilworth. I'm sure you will have already heard them singing this!

To celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, we looked at the Queen and her life. We then designed our own stamps to commemorate this amazing achievement.

Wishing you a lovely weekend.
