Year 4 - Autumn 1 - Week 2
Date: 9th Sep 2025 @ 2:55pm
What a fantastic week we have had in Year 4!
This week’s focus in Maths has been place value and showcasing what each number is worth within a given number. We have been working hard to break down numbers into their thousands, hundreds, tens and ones, find numbers to 1000 on a number line, and partition them using a part-whole model. Next week, we will represent and partition numbers to 10,000 and find 1, 10, 100 and 1000 more and less.
In English, we had an exciting morning at the TSP Circus. We used our senses to inspire fantastic ideas for our creative writing, linked to our new book Leon and the Place Between. We learnt about the importance of using adjectives so our readers can understand what it is like to visit a circus and really grasp the atmosphere. Using a double bubble map, we compared two circus tents, highlighting their similarities and differences with descriptive words. Laughter filled the air as we played a game of truth and dare, helping us to imagine what dare Leon might be facing as the sign in our story asks: Do you dare to go to the Place Between? We made some brilliant predictions about what the Place Between might be and next week, we will create a survival guide for anyone who dares to visit.
In RE, we thought carefully about the values David held and how he followed God’s footsteps, reflecting on how those lessons can guide us too. During Science, we used classification charts to group and sort living things, learning how scientists organise the world around us. In Geography, we challenged ourselves to locate all 50 states on a map of the USA—an impressive task that really tested our memory and map skills! For Art, we practised creating highlights and shadows, exploring how light and dark can bring drawings to life.
We also celebrated Roald Dahl Day on Wednesday, inspired by the fantastic story George’s Marvellous Medicine. In the story, George encapsulates our school value of Imagine, and just like George, we were curious and creative too, making our very own marvellous medicine!
Finally, we commenced our swimming lessons this week. We have been focusing on our school value of Hope, believing in ourselves and showing that we are all fantastic swimmers.
Thank you for such a lovely week, Year 4. Have a restful weekend!
