Year 4 - Autumn 1 - Week 3
Date: 16th Sep 2025 @ 5:09pm
What a busy week it has been in Year 4!
Take a look at some of our highlights:
In Maths, we continued our work on place value. Our challenges this week included partitioning the same thousands number in different ways, estimating where numbers up to 10,000 would sit on a number line, and adding or subtracting 10 and 100 to larger 4-digit numbers.
In English, we were inspired by an extract from The Nowhere Emporium. From this, we designed our own mysterious shops that suddenly appeared in our local village. We focused on using description to help the reader imagine what the shop was like and to build a sense of mystery. Later in the week, we turned our attention back to Leon and the Place Between, exploring the use of adverbs to describe the movement of animals in Leon’s circus.
In Geography, we created fact files for two of our favourite USA states. These included the flag design, nickname, population, and area—some fascinating discoveries were made!
As part of our outdoor learning session, we made our own nature wands and name tags using the natural resources around us and of course lots of glitter!
Swimming continues to be a real highlight of our week. It has been wonderful to see growing confidence in the water, with children trying out different strokes and showing real perseverance.
In Art, we explored texture and tone, creating patterns with shading from light to dark. Meanwhile, in RE, we reflected on the values God would want to see in our hearts and how those values can guide us in our everyday lives.
Thank you for another brilliant week, Year 4. Have a wonderful weekend—we look forward to seeing you all on Monday!
