Year 4 - Autumn 1 - Week 4
Date: 22nd Sep 2025 @ 9:47pm
We have had a fantastic week in Year 4!
In RE, we learned about how God chose David to be the new king after Saul let God down. We discussed how God does not judge as people judge—while people may look at outward appearance, God looks at the heart. We explored what God saw in David’s heart and recognised that many of our school values are also values that David held.
During Collective Worship, we created courage ladders to map out the steps we could take to overcome some of our worries and fears. We recognised that even being 10% braver can help us make big strides.
In Maths, we linked our learning to geography by researching the mountains of the UK and ordering their heights, showing how confident we are working with numbers up to 10,000. We also compared numbers in different forms—pictorially, in words, and in digits. Later in the week, a Roman visitor helped us march around the classroom reciting Roman numerals, and we even learned a catchy song to help us remember them. Next week, we will recap rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, and 1,000 before moving on to formal methods of addition.
In English, we were inspired by the magical illustrations from Leon and the Place Between. We labelled features of the circus tent using possessive nouns, and then used the fold-out page of mechanical toys to write descriptive pieces, focusing on ambitious vocabulary and linking our ideas with conjunctions.
We explored the bold, colourful world of Pop Art by creating our own portraits of famous faces, inspired by Andy Warhol. Using bright pops of colour to highlight key features, each piece reflects a unique take on Warhol’s iconic style.
We also began our singing lessons with the incredible Mr Mannings from Liverpool Cathedral. We are excited to learn a wide array of songs this term!
We ended the week on a real high with our first visit to Laurel’s Wood. We took our first steps towards becoming foresters, learning about woodland management, habitat creation, and how we can support conservation efforts.
Thank you, Year 4, for another brilliant week of learning and adventure. We hope everyone has a restful weekend!
