Year 4 - Autumn 2 - Week 4
Date: 27th Nov 2025 @ 1:51pm
Another fantastic week of learning, creativity, and the start of festive cheer!
In RE, we explored the Jewish festival of Hanukkah, learning about the incredible miracle that took place when the oil lasted for eight days. The children reflected on the meaning of this celebration and why it is so important in Jewish tradition. To bring our learning to life, we created beautiful menorah candles using mosaic designs.
In English, we focused on fronted adverbials and how they can add rich description to our sentences. The children practiced using them effectively and learned the importance of placing a comma after the adverbial.
During Maths, we ventured into the world of negative numbers, discovering what it means for a number to be below zero. The children practiced representing and comparing negative numbers and explored real-life contexts where they are used, such as temperatures.
Our History lessons took us back to Ancient Rome as we investigated how the Roman army operated. We learned about the clever tactics they used in battle and the different types of soldiers that made up this powerful force. The children were fascinated by the discipline and organisation that helped Rome build such a vast empire.
In Art, our mosaic skills continued to shine as we incorporated them into our menorah designs, showing incredible attention to detail and creativity.
During Outdoor Learning, we began getting into the festive spirit by creating beautiful wreaths out of foliage, using natural materials we foraged last week.
In PE, we focused on partner balances, exploring how movement can link these balances together. The children worked in pairs to create routines with a clear starting and ending point.
