Year 5- Autumn 1- Week 5
Date: 2nd Oct 2025 @ 4:30pm
Another busy week in Year 5!
Children have been writing recounts in English, focusing on grouping texts into paragraphs and using a variety of fronted adverbials. We are at the point in the story where Annie is just about to go over the falls. Will she survive? We are desperate to find out next week!
In maths, we have continued our work on comparing numbers up to 1000,000 in different ways. This has involved using real life maths, including comparing football stadium capacities.
In Science, we took our learning outside to create a model of the solar system. We learnt how the planets orbit the sun and linked our maths work by ordering the number of Earth days they take to do a complete orbit. We also participated in a Live Lesson with British astronaut, Tim Peake, who descibed what life is really like in space: from eating, sleeping and exercising in microgravity to growing plants, conducting cutting-edge experiments, and even the thrill of a spacewalk.
In RE, we thought about how the Bible can guide us in our every day lives. We read some different passages and decided which Christian values they promoted.
Finally, we are incredibly proud of our Year 5 Harvest service. The children have worked very hard to learn lines, songs and dance routines and it all paid off! Congratulations to our superstars!
