Year 5- Autumn 1- Week 8
Date: 23rd Oct 2025 @ 9:31pm
What an amazing week we’ve had in Year 5!
In English, we proudly published our diaries in our Author Books. The children worked so hard to produce beautiful handwriting and stunning illustrations – they look fantastic!
In Maths, we continued developing our skills in column subtraction and used reasoning to identify and explain mistakes. Learning didn’t stop in the classroom – we took it outside for a fun Place Value Race with Mr McPhee! On Thursday, we joined a numeracy workshop where we explored how maths is part of everyday life and how it can open doors to exciting future careers.
As part of Hate Crime Awareness Week, we reflected on how we can celebrate our uniqueness at TSP. We thought about the ways each of us shines in our own special way.
Our Science lessons were out of this world! We explored why we experience day and night by learning about the Earth’s rotation on its axis and how this creates the cycle of daylight and darkness. We also investigated the phases of the moon, discovering how the moon’s position relative to the Earth and Sun changes what we see in the night sky. To make it fun and memorable, we used Oreos to model the different phases – from new moon to full moon! The children loved creating their edible diagrams and could clearly explain why the moon appears to change shape over time.
We ended the week in style, wearing our pyjamas to support Alder Hey. It was a day full of laughter and joy as we watched the panto together.
We hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved rest over half term. We can’t wait to see you all back, ready for more learning adventures!
Happy Half Term, from the Year 5 Team
