What an amazing and busy week we’ve had in Year 5! The children have worked incredibly hard and shown just how much they’ve learned so far this year.

In English, we started the week by completing our reading and spelling booklets. Everyone put in fantastic effort, and it was wonderful to see their progress and determination. Our work on The Lost Happy Endings continued as we explored poetry using imagery. On Friday, we focused on creating beautiful winter-themed poems, full of descriptive language and creativity.

In Maths, we learned about prime and composite numbers and enjoyed playing games to help us remember them. We also practised our calculations and revisited fractions to strengthen our understanding.

In RE, we explored Mary’s Magnificat and discussed how it reflects different stories about Jesus’ life. The children created thoughtful illustrations to represent these ideas.

On Wednesday, we took part in a Positivity workshop where we learned about how our brains work in different ways. We talked about neurotypical and neurodivergent brains and celebrated the benefits of thinking differently. We also explored the idea of our ‘social batteries’—what drains them and what recharges them. The children shared such thoughtful and enthusiastic contributions!

On Thursday, Year 5 were superstars in helping move all our outdoor learning resources into our brand-new shed—thank you to Team TSP for funding this! Afterwards, we worked together to improve our environment for ourselves and wildlife by picking up litter from the field and playground. Great teamwork, Year 5!

Reminders for next week:

  • Swimming starts next Wednesday. Please ensure that children bring their kit into school on this day. (Towel, hat, trunks/costume)
  • Please continue to practise spellings with your child. These are tested each Friday. New spellings are put on Google Classrooms.
  • Homework for English and Maths are set each Friday on Mirodo. This is due to be completed by the following Wednesday.
  • All children should be aiming to read at least 3 times at home each week.
