Year 5 - Spring 2 - Week 6
Date: 13th Mar 2025 @ 11:27am
What a fantastic week to end this half term! It has flown by in record time and there is much to be grateful for and to reflect upon.
Here are just some of our highlights:
- Writing: We are incredibly proud of our children for creating beautifully written biographies of Commander Chris Hadfield for our Author Books. Paired with stunning watercolour artwork, they showcased both their best handwriting and their ability to write in a true biographical style!
- Reading: Our reading journey took us through an exciting mix of fiction and non-fiction! The children listened to a variety of Greek myths, exploring legendary gods, heroes, and mythical creatures. We also dived into the fascinating world of space with the non-fiction text, 'Exploring Space', learning all about the wonders beyond our planet!
- Maths: Our focus in lessons has been converting between fractions, decimals and percentages as well as exploring angles. We have also continued our weekly times tables focused lessons on TT Rockstars where each child has boosted their score and, impressively, a handful of children are now faster that their teacher;
- RE: The children have been focusing on our key question linked to Easter, ‘Why do Christians believe that Easter is a celebration of victory?’;
- Collective Worship: We have continued using Picture News as the focus of our Collective Worship sessions. Through these discussions, we have explored both the Christian values and the spiritual connections linked to each topic, encouraging thoughtful reflection and meaningful conversations;
- PE: Highlights have included our Kinball sessions, which the children absolutely love! They have enjoyed all the mini-games while also developing their understanding of the rules and tactics for playing the sport itself;
- Music: Finlay Gordon from Liverpool Cathedral Choir has continued to lead our vocal coaching sessions which culminated in a beautiful singing performance for the Year 5 and Year 4 parents;
- History: We journeyed back to one of the most fascinating civilizations in history as we explored Ancient Greece and its many wonders. From its people and inventions to its art, technology, and mythology, we delved into the incredible legacy of the ancient Greeks;
- DT: The children have been busy designing pop-up books mechanisms leading to the creation of their own pop-up ‘Jack and Jill’ book;
A fitting end to the week with Easter just around the corner! The Year 5 children deserve an enormous amount of credit for all of their efforts throughout this term and we hope they enjoy and make the most of their well-deserved break. Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable time with your families. See you in the summer term!
