Year 6 - Autumn 2 - Week 5
Date: 2nd Dec 2025 @ 12:23pm

What a fun, busy and festive week it has been in Year 6 as we welcomed the start of Advent! The classroom has been buzzing with excitement as we’ve thrown ourselves into seasonal activities, begun our preparations for Christmas and taken time to reflect on the true meaning of this special season. From a trip to the theatre to the Santa Dash to moments of quiet reflection, it’s been a wonderful start to Advent and a week full of joy and togetherness.
In Maths, we’ve been cementing our fractions knowledge through a series of Christmas-themed Blookets. The children have also been practising dividing and multiplying fractions, as well as comparing and ordering them. It has been brilliant revision of these key skills as we move further into Advent.
In English, we have been using ‘Star of Fear, Star of Hope’ to describe key scenes and events from the story, focusing on the use of the passive voice to show how powerless the Jewish people were during this time. The children have also had the opportunity to learn about and apply semi-colons; they now have a much stronger grasp of how to use them effectively. We look forward to seeing this skill used more independently throughout their writing.
In RE, we explored the Advent wreath and the meaning behind each of its candles. We also focused on Mary, creating word clouds to represent her key role in the life of Jesus. The children reflected on descriptions such as Morning Star, Quiet Light, Chosen One, Full of Grace, and Blessed, developing a deeper understanding of her importance during Advent.
We also enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Liverpool Empire Theatre, joining our friends in Years 3, 4 and 5 to watch Matilda. The children were captivated from start to finish and it was a wonderful opportunity to experience live theatre together. The excitement on the way there and the joyful chatter afterwards made it a memorable highlight of our week.
As Advent ticks on, we can hardly believe there are only a few school weeks left of term! We fully expect them to be filled with even more festive fun. Wishing you all an enjoyable weekend and we look forward to another fun-filled week ahead in Year 6!
