What a wonderful final few days of the term it has been in Year 6, bringing to a close what has been a fantastic autumn term. Throughout the past few months, the children have continually impressed us with their effort, resilience and achievements. As we look ahead with excitement to the new year, a well-earned Christmas break now awaits - along with plenty of special moments to be shared with family and friends.

Despite the shorter week, it has still been packed full of memorable highlights, and here are just a few…

We kicked off the week with the completion of our ‘Author Book’ work based on the powerful story, ‘Star of Fear, Star of Hope’. The children’s beautiful and poignant writing was accompanied by beautiful illustrations to bring their work to life and deepen the impact of the story. The care, thought and maturity shown by the children was evident throughout, resulting in a truly impressive final piece of work.

The following day, we enjoyed Christmas Party Day, filled with singing, dancing and board games, before settling down to watch the festive favourite, The Christmas Chronicles, accompanied by popcorn and hot chocolate.

Our autumn term came to a close on Wednesday with the Christmas Service at St Peter’s Church. It is always lovely to return to a setting that holds so many memories for the children and they enthusiastically joined in with the hymns and carols from the balcony, proudly supporting our friends in Year 4 who led the service beautifully. The service provided a calm and reflective end to the term, reminding us all of the true meaning of Christmas.

All that remains is to wish our Year 6 families a very happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the generous cards, gifts and kind messages received by the Year 6 team this week. These gestures are never expected, but they are so appreciated and mean a lot.

As the autumn term draws to a close, it’s time for Year 6 to step into the excitement and magic of Christmas. Enjoy this special time together as a family, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in 2026.

Merry Christmas! 🎄✨

Reminders:

- No new homework will be set during the Christmas break, however the Year 6 ‘Virtual Classroom’ has been updated and attached to this blog, which includes links to a variety of websites and resources. All pupils' individual passwords can all be found on Google Classroom. Don't forget, there is also the ‘Practice’ section on SATs Companion where the children can choose any topic they wish to practise for Maths, Reading, SpaG or Science.

- No new spellings will be set during the Christmas break. If the children would still like to practise, the Year 5/6 Statutory Spellings lists have been attached to Google Classroom. These are key words that we’ll all be working on throughout Year 6, with the aim of spelling as many as possible with confidence by the end of the year. The children could choose a few tricky words, test themselves or even try writing them in some festive sentences.

-School will reopen on Tuesday 6th January.
