Although this week has only been short, it certainly has been a brilliant start to the New Year and the Spring Term!

In Maths, we finished off our Geometry Topic which has been carried over from the Autumn Term to ensure information has been retained and embedded. The children have loved reinvestigating 3D and 2D shapes, identifying them both around the classroom and around the school without special 'Maths Glasses' on. We even had a go at making our very own 2D shapes with straws and discussed how it was much hard to make a circle due to it having 1 curved side. In Maths, we have also continued our NCTEM journey, which focuses on developing mathematical fluency using Rekenrek and additional aids such as tens frames. The children have loved taking part in this journey so far.

As part of our topic ‘Around the World’, we ventured to France, enjoying a fantastic ‘French Breakfast’ tasting some traditional, delicious cuisine. We explored the city of Paris, investigating famous landmarks and learning to speak French. It was such brilliant fun for all, even the teachers who dressed to the occasion!

In Art, we discussed the word ‘portrait’ and explored an array of portraits from famous artists. We were shocked that this was, at one point, the only way people could see a ‘picture’ of someone else before cameras were invented.  After, we compared various portraits, idenitifyig which portraits we liked and why.

On Friday afternoon, we were fortunate enough to take part in an interacting Judo assembly. We gasped as they showed us a range of holds and moves and were delighted to learn that this could be an option for some of us in the coming weeks. However, the highlight of our week has got to be the development of our fantastic, new playground! We have loved watching it develop and the team have been fantastic allowing us to ask insightful questions and learn about the construction.
