What another brilliant week we've had in Year 2!

We were delighted to take part in our very own school Read-a-thon and drop everything on Monday and Tuesday to read! We filled our Read-a-thon sessions with books we loved to read as well as reading our own class novel James and the Giant Peach.

We started the week with a fantastic PE lesson playing various activities where we had to make quick decisions, show respect for others and displayed honesty when getting caught. In PE we also slithered like snakes, bounced like bunnies and scampered like mice.

In Music, we bought out the glockenspiels and played along to our song ‘Hands, Feet and Heart’. We showed amazing teamwork when helping our partner read the notes they had to play.

In Maths, we continued our topic of ‘Place Value’. We started by looking at mathematical symbols less than, greater than and equal to. We also showed our knowledge of number lines by labelling number lines to 100. At the end of the week, we started to show our addition and subtraction skills by adding and subtracting numbers to 20. Miss Finlay, Mrs Giles and Mr Hughes were very impressed! Next week, we will continue to look at addition and subtraction problems to 20 as well as number facts to 100.

In English, we have continued to develop our Reading and Writingduring our Phonics lessons. We spent the week developing our writing skills as well as being able to say, hold and build our sentences carefully. We were very careful throughout making sure we used appropriate punctuation.

We loved recapping on the seven continents this week as well as comparing the UK and Ecuador, specifically the capital city Quito. We learned all about the similarities and differences between the two countries. Next week, we look forward to learning about where animals live, what climate they need and why.

In Science, we were creepy crawly explorers! We went on a mini-beast hunt and managed to discover all the different insects that live in our school grounds. We made sure to use our school value ‘Nurture’ to make sure we were careful when visiting the insects’ habitats.

During our RE lesson, we looked at and explored the different stories from the Old Testament and the New Testament. We listened to a variety of stories from each and then created a ‘book cover’ for stories from each. We found them really interesting and thought the message that each story was trying to send and tell us was really special.

We continued to look at more artwork created by Giuseppe Arcimboldo; this week was ‘The Four Elements’. We explored these elements, ‘water, fire, air and earth’ and discussed what we thought we would see in each painting. After analysing and discussing Arcimboldo’s work, we had a turn at creating our very own elemental painting.
