What another amazing week in Year 2.

We continued reading The Dragon Machine by Helen in English. We checked the CCTV cameras in Year 2 and found out that some dragons had visited us! At first, they only snuck into the classroom to eat some cheese but then they covered the camera to get up to some mischief! We had to write a letter to Mrs Pringle to let her know that there were dragons loose in the school. We also looked at various pictures such as a cave, a volcano, a forest etc. and used our positives and negatives hats to debate why a dragon would live here. We then used noun phrases and adjectives to come up with an amazing description of the dragon’s habitat.

We continued our topic of Money in Maths where we started to look at how much change customers would need if they didn’t have the exact amount of money. We played some fun Top Marks games where we had to count how much money was in the piggybank and then see if we could find different ways to create the same amount of money. Next week, we are going to begin our topic of Multiplication and Division.

In Science, we continued our topic of ‘Young Gardeners’ where we continued to look at and analyse our plants and how they were growing. We could already see for our group that eradicated water out of the plant’s diet, that the soil was very, very dry. Year 2 came to the conclusion that this meant the seed would be dry as well and that it would die before it had the chance to grow.

In Geography, we started to explore our new country, Kenya and compared it to the UK. We were even lucky enough for Mrs Giles to bring in necklaces and purses that were made in Kenya and travelled all the way back to Formby!

In PE, we used our fabulous teamwork skills to get a hoop around our class circle by stepping through it, wriggling our arms and shaking our heads. The challenge set to us was that we couldn’t break the circle and if we did, the hoop went back to the beginning. Year 2 were brilliant at this and as they got faster, the hoop got smaller. We also had the challenge of blindfolding ourselves and relying on the instructions given to us by our friends to help guide us. We realised how important it was to give clear instructions and to listen carefully. This was a fun challenge!

Year 2 finished off the week by celebrating Chinese New Year! We learnt about some of their unique traditions and customs whilst creating our own Chinese New Year decorations. We started our very own recorder lessons in Music this week! We practised holding our recorders correctly, were taught where to place our hands and even had the chance to play along to Ben the Bee!

You have worked very hard this week, have a wonderful weekend, Year 2.
