Welcome back Year 2, we hope you had a lovely break!

What a busy start back! In English, we started to explore our new book in English ‘Major Glad, Major Dizzy’ by Jan Oke. We started by analysing the front cover without seeing the title and dissecting what we could see. We talked about how there were shadows and small lines of light, that there were mice scampering across the floor and so much more. From this, we discussed what we thought the book was about and what it might be called. The titles we came up with were super impressive!

We started our new topic of ‘Length and Height’ this week in Maths where we looked at centimetres and metres. We had the opportunity to measure objects from around the classroom as well as estimating their length or height. We even measured ourselves to see how tall we were! To challenge ourselves even further, we had the tricky challenge of comparing cm and m and then ordering objects from shortest to longest and vice versa.

In Science, we started our new topic of ‘Move it’ where we created our very own flying fish. We made them out of various sizes and materials and then let them ‘fly’. We analysed and discussed how they fell through the air to the ground and what affected them. We connected our learning back to our previous science topic ‘Materials’ to help us with our critical thinking of why some materials worked better than others.

In PE, we began our new topic of ‘Invasion’ where we looked at what being in possession meant and how we can support a teammate to do this. We also understood that scoring goals means that we are using out attacking skills and explored ways that we could achieve this. We had mini-challenge games to connect our learning back to our topic of ‘Teamwork’ and how we could incorporate this into our games.

You have worked very hard this week, have a wonderful weekend, Year 2.
