We have had a brilliant and busy week here in Year 2.

We continued reading The Dragon Machine by Helen Ward as our book in English for this half term. We began by creating a ‘Beware’ posted warning the rest of the school about the dragons that have been let loose. We used amazing vocabulary, adjectives and subordinating conjunctions to do this! Then we looking at the personality and character traits of the dragon and how it differs from their appearance. We compared the dragon in this book to the one in our Guided Reading book, The Dragonsitter by Josh Lacey and used a bubble map to discuss what they had in common and what made them different.

We continued our topic of Money in Maths where we set up our very own shops! The shops were a great success with loads of customers coming to buy items! It was so much fun adding their shopping up and using the different coins to find our amounts. We then started to compare different amounts of money and discussed how although one pile might have more coins, this doesn’t necessarily mean they are worth more.

. In Science, we continued our topic of ‘Young Gardeners’ and became a group of green fingers when planting our very own flowers. We discussed the lifecycle of a plant as well as using our critical thinking to recap on what a plant needs to stay healthy and grow. We then delivered our plants to their experiment spot, some in fridges, some in dark rooms and some even trapped in a box! We will visit these plants over the coming weeks to see if they can grow without the vital components they need.

We had the opportunity to watch ‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’, a hand-drawn animated film based on the children's book by Charlie Mackesy on BBC iPlayer – highly recommended! The story reminded us about the importance of kindness, friendship, courage and hope. We absolutely loved watching it and went through a rollercoaster of emotions.

In Religion, we explored what the story of ‘The Ten Lepers’ and discussed how the men felt before and after they met Jesus. We linked this story with ‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’ and thought about how showing kindness to people is so important.

You have worked amazingly hard this week, have a wonderful weekend, Year 2.
