This week in English, we continued developing our understanding of modal verbs and used them to write a persuasive letter. We explored the difference between formal and informal language, and everyone enjoyed experimenting with new and interesting vocabulary choices. We were especially excited to use our laptops to type up our work and practise our typing skills.

In Maths, we carried on working with decimals, using addition and subtraction to solve a variety of problems. We also explored decimal sequences, looking carefully at patterns and counting forwards and backwards using tenths and hundredths. The class showed great focus and confidence with some tricky challenges.

Our learning continued across the curriculum too. In Geography, we learned about the difference between latitude and longitude and practised locating places around the world using coordinates. In Science, we studied how humans develop in the womb and created graphs to show growth over time, linking our science and maths skills together.

We made the most of the sunshine in PE, enjoying the fresh air while developing our skills through cricket and hockey. The children practised key techniques such as throwing, catching and dribbling, as well as working on teamwork and communication.

To finish the week on a high note, we began our music lessons on Friday with Mrs Hughes. We are all very excited to start learning to play brass instruments and can’t wait to see how our musical skills develop over the coming weeks!

Reminders:

  • PE days are Thursday and Friday.
  • Outdoor learning is each Thursday. As the weather is getting warmer, please send children in to school with hats and suncream, when necessary. Children are also welcome to bring a change of clothes for getting dirty.

Year 6 - Summer 1 - Week 2

IMG_8329.jpeg

It’s been another busy and hard-working week in Year 6, made even better by the sunshine, which has meant we’ve been able to take more of our learning outdoors!

In Maths, we are firmly in revision mode and working hard to build confidence across all areas. We’ve been revisiting key topics, practising a range of question types and focusing on explaining our reasoning clearly. The children have shown great resilience, tackling challenges with determination and supporting each other along the way.

In Reading, we’ve travelled from Hollywood to koala habitats to ‘Screaming Demons’! We’ve explored a range of texts, using our comprehension skills to retrieve information, make inferences and discuss vocabulary. The children have enjoyed the variety and have been developing their confidence in explaining their ideas clearly using evidence from the text.

In PE this week, the children thoroughly enjoyed an energetic session of dodgeball outdoors in the sunshine. The warm weather made the lesson even more enjoyable as pupils practised their throwing, dodging and catching skills, with their Year 6 teachers unable to resist the temptation to join in! It was brilliant to see everyone so active, engaged (not to mention competitive) and making the most of being outside in the fresh air.

As we come to the end of another busy and exciting week, we are incredibly proud of the many achievements within Year 6. We hope you all have a restful, enjoyable weekend and enjoy the weekend sunshine!

Reminders:

-Year 6 PE lessons will continue to take place on Wednesdays (swimming) and Thursdays each week for this half term.

-For next week’s swimming lesson (29.4.26), please could children again bring in a set of pyjamas or spare clothes. We recommend a t-shirt and long trousers. The children will be taking part in survival swimming activities, where this additional clothing is required. This forms part of the water safety element of the National Curriculum, which includes learning how to perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

-As previously communicated, the whole class were provided with optional revision homework during the Easter break for both Maths and English, which would still be beneficial for children to complete where time allows, if not already done. This has been set via both the SATs Companion platform and the children have also been given a set of printed resources to use at home too.

-Weekly Maths and English homework has resumed and has been set via either the SATs Companion platform or sent home in books. This is due to be completed on or before next Wednesday (29th).

-The Key Stage 2 SATs assessments are just a few weeks away and take place from Monday 11th May to Thursday 14th May. Please see a KS2 SATs Parent Information Leaflet attached.

Nursery - Summer 1 Week 2

Summer1 wk2IMG_E6225.JPG

What a treasure-filled week it has been in Nursery!

Our week has been full of excitement as the children eagerly and confidently shared their pirate treasures from home. It was truly special to see each child bring in something meaningful to them and talk about it with such passion. The joy this brought to the whole group was wonderful - friends listened so carefully, asked thoughtful questions and showed genuine interest in one another’s special items. These moments really highlight the sense of belonging we have in our Nursery family.

In Phonics, we have been introduced to the sound ‘a’, and the children are really beginning to engage enthusiastically with our activities. It has been lovely to see their growing confidence in recognising the sound and joining in.

In Maths, our focus has been positional language. We have also revisited ordering numerals and used one of our cheeky pirates to help us work out what number comes next, before and after. We even took our learning outside, moving around our outdoor environment using positional language - there was lots of laughter as we explored this in a practical and playful way!

At Forest School, we took part in an adult supported litter pick, linking beautifully to our learning about Earth Day. The children used their fantastic thinking skills to consider how we can look after our planet. This led to some lovely discussions about the Earth and how it was formed, showing great curiosity and awareness of the world around us.

On Wednesday, we attended our WOW Service at church, where we sang with great gusto as always! Lilly spoke to us about the Disciples, explaining that they were Jesus’ special friends, which the children listened to with great interest. We were also very proud to hear Rev. Anne share such positive comments about how amazing the children are - it truly was a lovely moment.

The beautiful weather this week has brought so much joy to our outdoor learning, and the children have been very excited to explore some new equipment. They have particularly enjoyed the ‘slackline’ and have shown great maturity in listening to and following instructions to ensure everyone stays safe.

We have such a special time together in Nursery, and it is always a joy to see how each individual child contributes to our group. We often say we are a ‘Nursery family’, and it really does feel exceptionally special.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

Warm wishes,

Mrs Grayson and the Nursery team

IMG_1958.jpeg

In Maths this week, our focus was place value within 50, in line with the National Curriculum objectives for Year One. The children worked hard to recognise, read and order numbers to 50, developing a clear understanding of how numbers increase and relate to each other. A key area of learning was using and estimating on a number line to 50. The children practised placing numbers accurately, ensuring they were the correct way around and in the correct order, and began to estimate where numbers should sit between given points. This helped to strengthen their underst

anding of magnitude and position, and it was lovely to see their confidence grow as the week went on.

In English, we focused on developing our descriptive writing skills. The children thoroughly enjoyed unpicking characters and discussing their appearance, feelings and personalities. We explored how using a variety of adjectives and descriptive phrases can help bring characters to life, and the children had some fantastic ideas.

In RE, we shared baptism photographs and talked about what we could remember from these special days. The children listened respectfully and enjoyed learning about one another’s experiences. We also learned about the baptism of Jesus and began to understand why baptism is such an important celebration for Christians, marking a welcome into the church community. The discussions were thoughtful and showed growing understanding of faith and belonging.

In Geography, we learned about the countries and cities within the United Kingdom. The children identified England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and explored some major cities and their famous landmarks. We discussed features such as the London Eye and Edinburgh Castle, developing our knowledge of what makes different places special and recognisable.

Well done Year One for another super week of hard work. We are very proud of you all and hope you have a lovely, restful weekend.

Year 2 - Summer 1 - Week 2

Date: 22nd Apr 2026 @ 2:39pm

What a fantastic week of fun in the sun we have had!

This week in Maths, we have continued to embed our number knowledge and have been working hard on estimating on a numberline. This proved difficult for some, as we had to first work out the intergers of the numbers. After a few outdoor sessions, we cracked it! After, we focused on Addition and Subtraction, and honed in on our number bonds. Next week, we will continue with this topic, and will focus on subtraction acorss 10 and also 2-digit numbers from 2-digit numbers.

In English, we have continued with our story 'Rivers'. We focused on developing our sentence structure using a range of literacy features including, alliteration and adverbs. We looked at how the use of exciting vocabulary can make our writing more exciting. Next week, we will continue to develop out literacy skills and will work towards a creative writing piece.

In Geography, we have been looking at the seaside and coasts. We focused on identify human and physical features of the coast, before comparing Formby beach to a becach in Cornwall. We noticed how one was sandm whilst the other was pebbles! Next week, we will continue to look human features in more detail.

In Art, we focused on working with clay. We looked at how we can again, manipulate the material, before begininng to form different shapes with the material. OVer the next few weeks we will be looking to make our own clays pots, watch this space!

In PE, we looked at our gymnastic topic. We focused on balances, connecting out learning back to Year 1, before looking at how different shapes flow. We then worked hard to develop a story without our balances, focusing on holding them for a given time, before moving on.

Reminders

- As the weather gets warmer, please can we ask that children ensure they bring their water bottles to school and for them to wear suncream

Year 3 - Summer 1 - Week 2

Date: 22nd Apr 2026 @ 1:52pm

IMG_5115.png

In RE, we listened to the story of Moses and learned about the Ten Commandments. We talked about the impact the commandments had and why they are important to many people today.

During Collective Worship, we discussed what resilience means. We shared ideas about how we can be more resilient, such as not giving up when things feel difficult and learning from our mistakes.

In Maths, we have been learning all about scale. We started by looking at scale on a number line and learning how to work out missing values. After that, we moved on to using scales to find mass, carefully reading the scale and weighing different objects.

In English, we have focused on expanded noun phrases and how adjectives can make our writing more interesting and detailed. We have also been practising writing in the present perfect tense, which has helped us explain things that have already happened more clearly.

In Outdoor Learning, we went on a colour hunt. We explored our outdoor area and noticed new plants and shrubs that have started to grow, looking carefully at the different colours around us.

In History, we explored Ancient Egyptian writing. We learned about hieroglyphs and even had a go at writing our own messages using Egyptian symbols.

In Science, we learned about rocks. We discovered how rocks are formed and learned about the different types of rocks, including how they are used in everyday life.

In Art, we studied Ancient Egyptian art. We stained our paper using teabags to make it look old and then used oil pastels to create our own Egyptian drawings. The finished artwork looked amazing!

Reception - Summer 1 - Week 2

Date: 21st Apr 2026 @ 5:19pm

!!!!!Summer1week2.jpeg  !!!!!summer1week2a.jpeg

What a lovely sunny week we have had in Reception!

The children thoroughly enjoyed attending our WOW service at St Peter’s Church. Lily confidently talked to us all about Jesus’ special friends, the Disciples. We were incredibly proud of the children who said prayers and spoke about their friends while proudly sharing the beautiful paintings they had created in class.

Back in the classroom on Thursday, we continued to explore what friendship looks like. The children each made a special friendship bracelet for a friend of their choice in our class – they looked amazing and were given with such kindness and care.

The children continue to work extremely hard in phonics and are really wowing us with their growing skills. We are still focusing on correct letter formation and holding the pencil correctly. Thank you for your continued support with this at home – it really does make a difference.

In Maths, our focus has been on the process of counting and exploring number patterns beyond 20. We are encouraging lots of opportunities for verbal counting beyond 20, pausing at each multiple to help children notice the patterns within the numbers. Fun activities and games that involve numbers beyond 20, such as playing hide and seek, are a fantastic way to support this learning. Using calendars, hundred squares or number tracks (both indoors and outdoors) also helps children become familiar with two‑digit numbers and spot patterns. Keeping counting active and enjoyable is key, and the children love choosing actions to count, such as claps, taps or stamps.

We have also been developing children’s understanding of addition by exploring how a quantity can change when more is added. Using real objects, the children have been learning through simple mathematical stories using the structure “first, then, now”. For example, children are beginning to solve problems where part of the story is missing, such as: “There were 5 children on the bus, then some more got on, and now there are 8 children. How many got on?”

We had a wonderful visit to Forest School this week, where we continued learning about butterflies. The children used natural materials to create their own butterflies, showing great creativity and teamwork. For Earth Day, we talked about how important it is to look after our world and discussed simple ways we can help, such as picking up litter with an adult’s help.

We ended the week by working together as a class to paint our own symmetrical butterfly – they looked incredible!

Finally, may we kindly remind you to ensure your child has a sun hat, sun cream and a sensible coat in school every day, as the weather can be changeable.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Year 4 - Summer 1 - Week 2

Date: 20th Apr 2026 @ 9:07pm

IMG_0532.jpeg

Another fantastic week in Year 4, here are some of our highlights:

In RE, we reflected on our recent visit to St Peter’s Church and used this experience to help us label features in a church image. We then compared these features with those found in a mosque. The children thought critically about the similarities and differences between the two places of worship and explained why certain features hold importance within both the Christian and Muslim faiths.

In Maths, we continued our work on time, focusing on reading analogue clocks, converting to digital time and understanding how to read and write the 24‑hour clock.

Our focus story, Where the Forest Meets the Sea, inspired some brilliant English work. The book explores the forest in the past, present and future, so the children created expanded noun phrases beginning with the sentence starter “I once was in a place where…” to describe what the forest looked like at different points in time. Linking to our understanding of deforestation, we discussed why the future image showed no trees and only buildings.

We also revisited possessive apostrophes by creating a top‑ten list of items we would take on a rainforest expedition, using apostrophes to show which items we would borrow from friends. After listening to a documentary narrated by David Attenborough about the Draco lizard, the children used his style as inspiration to write their own narration about a hungry tree shrew.

In Geography, we identified the location of rainforests on a world map. We located the equator and learnt that the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn sit above and below it. The children discovered that most rainforests are found within this zone. In Science, we explored how particles are arranged in different states of matter and considered whether it is only liquids that can be poured.

In Outdoor Learning this week, we explored the life cycle of a ladybird through a hands‑on modelling activity. The children used clay to create each stage of the cycle – egg, larva, pupa and adult – paying close attention to the shapes, textures and colours that make each stage unique. They arranged their models on natural materials such as leaves, twigs and bark before adding labels and writing a fact to explain what happens at each point in the cycle.

Have a lovely weekend, and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Year 2 -Summer 1 - Week 1

Date: 16th Apr 2026 @ 8:11pm

And just like that, we are into the summer term!

This week, we have worked hard on cementing our number knowledge in terms of Place Value. Using a range of practical and pictorial resources, we focused on partitioning two digit numbers into tens and ones and flexibly into a range of numbers. The children worked hard to understand how larger numbers are made up. Next week, we will move onto numbers bonds within 100, using our understanding from this week to solve, and check, addition and subtraction sentences.

In English, we looked at a new story, 'The River'. Using just the images this week, we have taken ourselves on a journey, taking on the persona of the main character, as young boy. We predicted where he would end up and discussed why he would get there. After, we focused on describing the different scenes, using the suffixes -er and -est, we described the different settings in the book. At the end of the week, we created our own alliteration poems, a trickier concept than we thought, who knew finding words to go with 'leaves' would be so hard?

In our Reading lessons this week, we looked at 'The Sea Book'. Here, we looked at retrieving infromation from the text. To help us, we focused on identifying words in the text that we needed to look for before finding them and circling the facts surrounding it. This skill is an important one to develop and we will continue to focus on this in the coming weeks.

We started our new Art topic this week too, 'Clay Houses'. In preparation for creating our model, we first focused on manipulating the clay. We used a range of tools and resources to make impressions, mould and create. We learnt that warming up the material helped us create different forms easier.

In PE we started two new topic, Net and Wall games, and Gymnastics. Over the coming weeks we develop our skills in both areas, but both seem to be topics of interest to the children!

Have a wonderful weekend, we will see you all on Monday!

Reminders

  • PE days will be on Mondays and Fridays
  • Outdoor Learning is on Wednesdays
  • Water bottles and sun cream are a must in the warmer weather!

Year 5- Summer 1- Week 1

Date: 16th Apr 2026 @ 8:01pm

Y5 knots.PNG

Year 5 have had a fantastic first week back after the Easter break and have jumped straight into their learning with enthusiasm and great effort!

In English, we began our new work based on The Paperbag Prince by Colin Thompson. The children worked hard to compare and contrast the beautiful countryside with the junkyard in the valley, using subordinating conjunctions and prepositional phrases to add detail to their writing. We also explored modal verbs and discussed how they can be used to suggest possibility, obligation or certainty. Some excellent examples were shared during class discussions.

In Maths, we focused on adding and subtracting decimals, using our known number facts to support our learning. We used tens frames and number lines to help visualise our calculations, and the children showed great confidence and perseverance when tackling more challenging problems.

Our RE lessons marked the start of our new unit on significant women in the Old Testament. We began by learning about Jochebed, the mother of Moses. The children thought carefully about why she was important and enjoyed debating whether she made the right choices, showing great thoughtfulness and respect for different viewpoints.

In Science, we explored the human life cycle, identifying and recording the key features of each stage. This provided a great foundation for the more detailed learning we will be doing over the coming weeks.

Year 5 loved getting creative in Art, where we used our drawing skills to sketch houses. We carefully observed the different shapes that make up a building before adding finer details. As an extra challenge, the children were asked to draw their own houses for homework, and we have already been super impressed by the effort and quality of work brought in so far!

Our new PE focus has been a big hit, especially cricket. The children practised both close and deep catching, showing great teamwork, focus and improvement across the sessions.

During Outdoor Learning, we spent time tending to our plants and learning how to tie open and closed clove hitch knots. The children showed fantastic determination and resilience as they worked hard to master these new skills.

Finally, there was huge excitement this week with the arrival of our new Chromebooks! We are really looking forward to using these to enhance our learning across different subjects.

Well done, Year 5, for such a positive start to the term. We can’t wait to see what the coming weeks bring!

Reminders:

  • PE is Thursdays and Fridays
  • Outdoor learning continues to be on Thursdays.

Year 1 - Summer 1 - Week 1

Date: 16th Apr 2026 @ 5:50pm

IMG_3586.jpeg

What a wonderful week it’s been in Year 1 – full of thoughtful learning, new topics, and lots of smiles!

In Maths, we continued to develop our understanding of place value within 50. The children worked really hard using tens and ones frames, as well as Base 10 resources, to physically build and represent numbers. We have been practising how to use a place value chart with growing confidence, and it has been fantastic to see how secure the children are becoming when working with tens and ones.

In English, we began an exciting new story called Toys in Space. We made links to the much-loved film Toy Story, comparing characters and thinking about similarities and differences. This week, we explored the first few pages, making predictions about what might happen next and discussing how the characters might be feeling. There were some brilliant ideas and lots of imaginative thinking!

In RE, we started our lovely new topic all about Baptism. It was wonderful to share our own memories of baptisms and to talk about what a baptism is and why it is special to Christians. The children listened carefully to one another and shared their experiences so thoughtfully. Next week, we are looking forward to exploring these memories further by looking at photographs from these special occasions.

In Geography, we explored the continents and oceans of the world. Using music, pictures, and maps, the children began to learn their names and locations. It was a fun and engaging way to start building our understanding of the wider world.

In PE, we enjoyed a calm and relaxing yoga session, trying out different poses and focusing on our balance and breathing. We also began our new topic of net and wall games, where we practised rolling small balls with control and accuracy.

Well done, Year 1, for all your hard work and enthusiasm this week. Have a lovely, restful weekend!

Nursery - Summer 1 Week 1

Date: 15th Apr 2026 @ 9:00pm

Sum1 Wk1 IMG_E5168.JPG

We hope you all had a wonderful Easter break. It was truly heartwarming to see so many smiley faces on Monday morning! The children were so excited to be back together again, and the staff too!

We began our week with great excitement as we were visited by a fearless pirate… Captain Redbeard! He left us a mysterious message in a bottle, along with clues leading to hidden treasure. Rising to the challenge, we proved ourselves to be the cleverest and bravest crew around. Working together, showing kindness, teamwork and a sense of adventure, we solved the clues and discovered the treasure chest!

Opening it together was a magical moment. Inside we found wondrous treasures - gems, glittering coins, jewels and many other exciting objects; which we thoroughly enjoyed exploring. This inspired lots of discussion about pirates. We began to wonder… what makes a pirate? The children shared some fantastic ideas, ‘perhaps a beard’, ‘a love of fish’, or ‘being a strong swimmer’, are all signs of possibly being a pirate! We are very excited to continue exploring this further as our new topic of ‘Pirates unfolds.

In PE this term, we are focusing on games. The children are becoming excellent at finding a safe space and had great fun taking part in a variety of games that required careful listening, controlled movement and the ability to adjust speed and direction. We also practised stopping safely and quickly; an important skill we are getting very good at!

In Early Listening, Nursery 2 have now progressed to Phonics and have been introduced to the sound m’. We learned that it is a stretchy sound and, using the Read Write Inc Phonics scheme. We began to learn the phrase to help us form it. Our new Phonics Station has been very popular, and the children are showing great enthusiasm in hearing the sound, saying it and thinking of words that begin with m. Please do keep an eye on Tapestry for sounds we are learning. Nursery 1 have continued to explore environmental sounds, body percussion and joining in with enlivened stories.

In Maths, at the children’s request, we changed our nursery rhyme opener to, Five Little ‘Pirates’ in a Flying Saucer, which was lots of fun! We then revisited recognising small quantities without counting before moving on to our main focus - sequencing. The children enjoyed sequencing familiar nursery rhymes, getting ready for in the morning and even the steps involved in going to the toilet! There was some fantastic teamwork as the children worked together to put events in the correct order.

Inspired by Captain Redbeard’s treasure, our classroom has taken on a pirate theme. The children have been busy threading to create jeweled necklaces and bracelets; engaging in small world pirate adventures and exploring a range of pirate-themed activities. We have also enjoyed sharing pirate stories, particularly enjoying, ‘The Pirates Are Coming!’ by John Condon and Matt Hunt, which has further sparked our curiosity about who might be a pirate.

summer 1wk1IMG_5163.JPG

It has been a fabulous first week back. Knowing that this is the final term for many of our children, we feel time may pass all too quickly. We are looking forward to making the most of every moment and having a truly swashbuckling time together!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for any possible pirates!

Warm wishes,

Mrs Grayson and the Nursery team.

Polite reminders:-

  • PE continues to take place on a Monday.
  • If you haven’t done so already, please could you ensure your child has sun-cream and a sun hat in school.
  • On warmer days, please ensure your child is wearing suncream prior to school - we will support a 'top up' at lunch
  • Don’t forget Library books!
  • Most importantly for next week, to remember to bring in your own ‘Treasures’! (Memo can be found on Tapestry)

Reception - Summer 1 - Week 1

Date: 15th Apr 2026 @ 2:04pm

!!!!!Summer1Week1.jpeg

Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful Easter break. The children have returned to school this week full of excitement and ready to learn, and it has been lovely to see so many happy faces and hear all of their news.

In RE, our focus has been understanding that Jesus had special friends called Disciples and that we are all Jesus’ friends. The children explored the idea of friendship by looking at familiar Disney characters such as Woody and Buzz, Dory and Nemo, and Shrek and Donkey. They talked about who their friends are and what makes a good friend, sharing some lovely ideas. This learning was followed by the children painting pictures of themselves with their friends.

In Phonics, we have continued learning new sounds and practising writing words in our books. The children have been working very hard on their letter formation and holding their pencils correctly, showing fantastic focus and effort.

In Maths, we have been learning about numbers beyond 10, starting with 11, 12 and 13. The children practised saying these numbers and used one-to-one correspondence to count objects beyond 10. We also explored how the numbers 1 to 3 repeat after a full ten, for example: 1 ten and 1, 1 ten and 2, 1 ten and 3. We are embedding this understanding up to 13 before moving on to bigger numbers. The children have also been encouraged to count forwards and backwards, identify what comes before or after a number, and place numbers in the correct order.

We also began our exciting new theme for this half term, ‘Growth and Change’. We used the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar to introduce our learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. The children have loved creating pictures and paintings of butterflies and discussing how their wings are symmetrical.

What a fun and busy week we have had! We hope you all enjoy your weekend.

Year 6 - Summer 1 - Week 1

Date: 14th Apr 2026 @ 8:52pm

IMG_8272.jpeg

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable Easter break and is feeling refreshed for the final term of Year 6. It’s hard to believe how quickly the school year has gone so far but we are now entering an important and exciting final chapter. This term will be filled with opportunities to celebrate all of the children’s hard work as well as making the most of their final months of primary school.

In Maths, we have been focusing on ratio and proportion, building our understanding through a range of engaging and varied activities. The children have enjoyed using interactive platforms such as Blooket and LBQ to reinforce their learning, alongside quick-fire practice games to develop fluency and confidence. They have also been applying their knowledge to a range of problem-solving questions, encouraging them to think more deeply and explain their reasoning.

In Reading, we have explored a range of texts throughout the week, culminating in a music-based comprehension centred on a song by Yungblud. The children analysed the lyrics in detail, considering language choices, themes and the singer’s intent. This tested the children’s inference skills, with pupils demonstrating thoughtful, well-reasoned responses and the ability to make connections to wider themes.

We also further explored the themes of the song through a Collective Worship session. The children watched a live performance in which powerful messages were displayed on the screen behind the artist, highlighting global statistics such as population, the number of languages and cultural groups and how people can still feel divided rather than connected. It also explored how time is spent, including the number of hours people live, how much time is spent online and the level of exposure to negative content such as hate speech. This prompted thoughtful discussion around the importance of connection, kindness and living life to the fullest. The overarching message, “Don’t forget to live,” linked closely to the themes within the song and encouraged children to reflect on how they can live positively and purposefully.

A huge well done to all of the children for their hard work and dedication this week. We hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved, relaxing weekend!

Reminders:

-Year 6 PE lessons will continue to take place on Wednesdays (swimming) and Thursdays each week for this half term.

-For next week’s swimming lesson (22.4.26), please could children bring in a set of pyjamas or spare clothes. We recommend a t-shirt and shorts.

This is due to be completed on or before next Wednesday (22nd).

-Weeky spellings have been shared on Google Classroom and the children will be tested next Friday (24th).

-KS2 SATs Week: Monday 11th May to Thursday 14th May.

Year 3 - Summer 1 - Week 1

Date: 14th Apr 2026 @ 12:00pm

IMG_5053.png

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely Easter break.

In RE, we started our new topic, 'Which rules should we follow?'. The children explored why rules are important and considered the effects rules can have on individuals and communities. We linked this to religious contexts by encouraging the children to ask thoughtful questions about religious rules and why followers choose to live by them. This led to some mature and respectful discussions, showing excellent listening and reasoning skills.

In Maths, we have continued developing our understanding of fractions. This half term, the focus has been on equivalent fractions, where children explored how different fractions can represent the same amount. They used number lines to place and compare fractions accurately and worked with bar models to visually represent equivalence.

In English, we launched our new text, 'Journey', which has captured the children’s imagination. We began by studying the illustrations closely and making thoughtful predictions about the story. The children then wrote a diary entry from the perspective of one of the characters, using emotion and description to bring their writing to life. Alongside this, we introduced the present perfect tense, discussing how it is formed and when it is used.

In Science, we began our new topic on rocks. The children had the opportunity to carefully observe and sort different types of rocks based on their appearance and physical properties, such as colour, texture and hardness.

In History, we introduced our exciting new topic on the Ancient Egyptians. The children learned about everyday life in Ancient Egypt, exploring what homes, food and society were like. They also looked at the different jobs people had and discussed how roles varied depending on status and wealth.

In PE this week, we have been practising our football skills. We worked on dribbling the ball with control and passing accurately to our teammates. The children showed great focus and teamwork as they practised these skills and worked hard to improve their confidence with the ball.

During Outdoor Learning, we made the most of the spring sunshine and the beautiful blossom around us. The children took time to observe their surroundings and create their own detailed drawings, focusing on shape, pattern and colour.

What a fantastic first week back we have had!

It was lovely to see all the children returning and enjoying time with their friends, and they were excited to hear about the new things we will be learning this term.

This term in RE, our focus is on looking at different churches and considering whether all churches are the same. Through research, we found that church buildings can look different from the outside, although some features are similar depending on denomination. We also used religious vocabulary to name features of a church that we already knew from visiting St Peter’s and Holy Trinity Church.

In Maths, we identified key events on a calendar and reminded ourselves how many days are in a week and how many months are in a year. We also looked at how a leap year changes the calendar. We organised activities into measurements of time, including seconds, minutes and hours, and read and wrote the time to the nearest five minutes. Next week, we will focus on recognising the difference between analogue and digital time and converting between the two.

Our new focus book, Where the Forest Meets the Sea by Jeannie Baker, links to our Geography and Art topics this term. We explored the sounds of a rainforest and used descriptive language to describe what our senses could see and hear. We also took sentences from the book and changed the pronouns to create variety, before building our own glossary of vocabulary connected to the theme of the story.

As part of our outdoor learning session, we designed and created nature masks using natural materials. We explores camouflage and how living things blend into their environment.

We looked at Henri Rousseau’s painting Tiger in a Tropical Storm in Art and discussed the techniques used. With the aim of making the animals in our own forest scenes stand out, we selected colours carefully and began adding parrots to our artwork. In PE, we were introduced to Tri-Golf and created a mini golf course on the school field to develop our aiming skills towards a target flag.

It has been lovely to have you back, Year 4. Have a restful weekend.

What a fantastic final week of term it has been in Year 5! The children have worked incredibly hard and enjoyed a brilliant mixture of learning, creativity and Easter excitement.

In English, we have been busy editing and writing up our biographies on Chris Hadfield. The children have shown real care and attention to detail, producing beautifully presented pieces of work. They look amazing, and the children are rightly proud of what they have achieved!

Our maths learning continued with our unit on statistics. This week, the children tackled interpreting line graphs and tables, developing their confidence in understanding and analysing data. Their reasoning and explanations have been impressive.

We wrapped up our Geography topic on Ancient Greece by exploring what daily life was like. The children learned about Greek clothing, leisure, food and childhood, and enjoyed comparing these aspects to their own lives today. There were some fascinating discussions about how life has changed and what has stayed surprisingly similar!

On Tuesday and Thursday, we were thoroughly entertained by the talented musicians taking part in the RockSteady concerts. Year 5 were especially proud of their classmates who performed so confidently. Well done to all of you!

Thursday morning brought a real treat as we enjoyed a Forest School session alongside Year 2. The children practised their wood‑chopping skills and worked brilliantly as a team to build a fire. The highlight, of course, was toasting marshmallows over the flames.

As we head into the holidays, we hope all our Year 5 pupils have a fantastic Easter break. Enjoy the rest, spend time with family and friends, and we look forward to seeing you all refreshed and ready for more learning after the holidays.

Happy Easter from the Year 5 team! 🐣

Year 2 - Spring 2 - Week 5

Date: 25th Mar 2026 @ 7:16pm

And just like that, Spring Term draws to an end! What a fantastic term it has been.

In English, the children wrapped up their work on our story, 'Major Glad and Major Dizzy'. Using their imagination, images from the book and clips from Youtube, the children transported themselves back to the Blitz taking on the character of Major Glad. Here, they wrote about their experience, under the floorboards, in the form of a Diary. Ensuring that they were writing in the right tense, the children wrote diary entry's packed full of information, adjectives and conjunctions. Next term, the children will move onto our next imaginative text, watch this space for the new title!

In Maths, the children finished off their topic on Measurement focusing on capacity and volume. They worked hard to read the volume of given liquids to the nearest mililitires. After half term, the children will be recapping addition and subtraction. Here, we will revisit adding single digit numbers to two digit numbers before moving onto two digit numbers to two digit numbers.

In Science, we completed a series of expriements this term, with our favouirte being watching our cress grow. This week, we studied the results of our experiment and found that the cress that was placed in the cupboard did not grow as successfully as the cress that was put in the windows.

In DT, we concluded our topic by creating our own ferris wheels. Using bottles and boxes as frames, we placed our axles in the axle holders before creating our pods out of card. The children worked hardto create the differnet steps in order to make it function. After, they were allowed to decorate their Ferris wheels.

In RE we finished off our topic on important symbols. We focused on symbols that are currently around us, inculding hot cross buns. We agreed that the cross was the most important symbol as this symbolised Christ sacraficing himself to forgive our sins!

We loved watching our peers this week as they prefomed in Rocksteady. We are incredibly proud of all of our bandmates! As well as this we were delighted to get a visit from the hip-hoppity Easter Bunny, a fabulous treat for us all!

We hope you all have a wonderful, restful half term break. We cannot wait to hear all about it.

Reminders

  • PE days will remain the same and will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays
  • Please bring a bottle of water to school with you
  • On warmer days, please can children wear suncream and hats
  • Outdoor learning will be on Wednesdays, please wear some form of trousers

I can’t believe we have now reached the end of the Spring term! How fast has it gone when you are enjoying life!

This week has been full of wonder, delight and excitement as we approach the Easter break.

We began our week with an Easter-themed PE session, where we moved around the space as the Easter Bunny, followed by a very amusing game of ‘Easter Bunny says…’. There were lots of giggles, and of course we ended with the ever-popular ‘Sleeping Bunnies’… what else could it be!

Back in the classroom, we have enjoyed a wide range of Easter-themed activities. Our learning environment has been full of creativity, from making Easter baskets to baking delicious crispy cake Easter nests. We also explored the tradition of hot cross buns and enjoyed a food tasting experience together.

As part of our learning, we spent time exploring the Easter story, helping the children begin to understand why Easter is special. This linked beautifully to our discussions about new life. We also explored baby animal names, which really got us thinking and wondering about the young of different creatures.

We also enjoyed our Godly Play session on Thursday, with a visit from Caroline. She shared a story about friendship, linking it beautifully to the Easter story and bringing it to life through the use of meaningful props. The children listened attentively, engaging thoughtfully and asked insightful questions throughout; creating a special time for reflection and storytelling together.

In Early Listening, we explored egg shakers, carefully listening to match sounds and wondering what might be inside. We also shared Easter-themed stories, including ‘Odd Eggs, which sparked great discussion about which creatures hatch from eggs. This linked beautifully to our learning about Easter as a time of new life. We explored baby animal names, which really got us thinking and wondering about the young of different creatures.

In Maths, we thoroughly enjoyed singing ‘When Goldilocks Went to the House of the Bears’ while exploring the concepts of full, empty, half-full, nearly empty and nearly full. We had lots of fun pouring water into different containers to support our understanding and even applied this at lunchtime by talking about how much we had drunk! We have also taken time to revisit and recap some of our previous learning.

We also acknowledged World Maths Day this week by taking part in two exciting challenges. The children worked together to fill an oval with different patterns and then had a fantastic time trying to build the longest line possible using Mobilo within five minutes… and we absolutely smashed it!

As always, we have continued caring for our growing plants and can confidently say we have some very green fingers! Our seeds are growing beautifully, and this week we also planted potatoes and flowering bulbs. We are very excited to continue observing these as they grow.

We were very proud to show off our Easter bonnets on Wednesday. The weather was kind to us as the rain and wind eased while we walked to and from church. The children were absolutely fantastic—singing their songs so beautifully and confidently taking part in the Easter bonnet parade, which can feel quite daunting for our little ones. It was so wonderful to see the Church full of family and friends and we wish to thank you for attending and for all your support with the creative bonnet designs.

We were also lucky enough to enjoy a visit from the Easter Bunny, which brought lots of excitement, dancing and smiles. Courtesy of Team TSP, the children found a very tasty Easter treat as they took part in a very exciting Easter egg hunt, which was a definite highlight of the week!

We ended our week by talking about doing the things we love—which of course involved a little bit of dancing!

Well, that’s it for two weeks! Wishing you all a wonderful Easter break filled with time to rest, recharge, have fun and, of course, enjoy plenty of chocolate!

Well, that’s it for the term! We hope you all have a wonderful Easter break, filled with rest, family time and plenty of chocolate. Please do take a look at our updated virtual classroom (attached to this blog) to see what we will be exploring next term.

We look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 13th April for another exciting chapter of learning together!

We’ve had another fantastic week in class, filled with curiosity, creativity and so many proud moments.

In Maths this week, we focused on mass and capacity, with a particular emphasis on understanding capacity. The children developed a great understanding of what volume and capacity mean and were able to confidently recall our star vocabulary throughout the week, including full, empty, nearly full and nearly empty. We used a range of containers, cups and pots to compare capacity, describing which held more or less and explaining our thinking clearly.

To celebrate World Maths Day, we enjoyed a whole day of exciting maths challenges. We designed the longest repeated patterns, built the tallest and longest structures in the block area, and worked on super tricky shape patterns using iPads and Lego. It was a brilliant day full of teamwork, problem‑solving and lots of smiles.

We also completed a fantastic DT project this week: designing and making our very own hand puppets. Using colourful felt, staples, glue and plenty of imagination, the children created wonderful characters and showed great determination and creativity. They were so proud of their finished puppets, and rightly so!

With Easter approaching, we enjoyed getting into the festive spirit. One of our highlights was taking part in Easter baking, making delicious rice crispy cakes. The children loved mixing and decorating their treats. We also created beautiful Easter cards using bright colours, collage and thoughtful messages.

In RE, we discussed how the Easter story is represented in the celebrations that take place across the UK. The children shared some of their favourite Easter traditions and talked about special memories. We then learned about different parts of a church and how many of these features represent elements of the Easter story. The children showed a thoughtful understanding and asked some excellent questions.

It has been a wonderful week full of learning, creativity and special moments. We are very proud of the children for their enthusiasm, positivity and brilliant behaviour throughout, enjoy a lovely half term Year 1! I look forward to seeing you all after Easter!

Wow – can you believe we are at the Easter holidays already?

The spring term has absolutely flown by, and what a wonderful few weeks we have had together. A particular highlight has been our Easter Bonnet Parade. The children looked amazing in their beautifully decorated hats, and they sang so confidently and beautifully in church. Thank you to everyone who attended and for supporting the children with their bonnet designs – your creativity and enthusiasm really shone through.

We began the week exploring an Easter-themed basket of objects to spark discussion and curiosity. This encouraged the children to share what they already knew about Easter, ask thoughtful questions, and talk about their own family traditions. We had some fantastic conversations!

Throughout the week, we learned about the significance of Easter and took part in a range of themed activities, including making cards, biscuits, decorations and we even had a visit from the Easter Bunny Himself. We were also delighted to welcome Caroline from the Archdiocese for a session of Godly Play. She told the Easter story using visuals and props, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. They listened beautifully and asked lots of insightful questions.

In Phonics, we have spent time consolidating our previous learning and continuing to develop our early reading skills.

In Maths, the children expanded their understanding of odd and even numbers, building on their earlier explorations of doubling and recognising number patterns up to 10 in different contexts. We also continued our work on 3D shapes, learning to recognise and name cubes, cuboids, cylinders, pyramids, cones and spheres. The children explored the differences between 2D and 3D shapes and developed their understanding of the properties of solid shapes through handson activities and careful modelling of vocabulary.

Please see our updated virtual classroom attached to this blog if you would like to explore any of the themes we will be exploring after the half term.

We hope you all have a lovely Easter break, filled with rest and family time. We look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 13th April.

Happy Easter!

IMG_9572.jpeg

With the end of the Spring Term upon us, we have spent some time reflecting on our fantastic achievements and all the exciting things we’ve been up to this week.

This term, we have been working hard to consolidate our knowledge of times tables ahead of the Year 4 Multiplication Check. We’ve discovered that we learn best through games such as Battleships, Monopoly and Top Trumps, as well as singing along to famous songs with a times tables twist. We also found a brilliant resource that allowed us to make our own times tables fortune tellers, meaning we could continue practising during break times and throughout the school day.

To mark World Maths Day, Year 4 took part in a range of team activities. The children worked together on number art, a maze directional challenge, and the £5 challenge. Speed, accuracy, and teamwork were all considered throughout the tasks.

We have thoroughly enjoyed reading the story When the Giant Stirred and took great pride in immersing our own characters into the narrative this week. Using our knowledge of fronted adverbials, dialogue and expressive language, we showcased our learning by rewriting the story with our own characters in mind.

On Wednesday, the children were delighted to spot the Easter Bunny hopping around school. We had a wonderful time dancing along and spreading some Easter cheer. We also enjoyed an Easter egg hunt, searching for hidden egg tokens in our outdoor environment before exchanging them for a tasty treat.

We ended the term in the best possible way by taking part in our Easter Service, led by the fantastic Year 3 children. It was amazing to watch their performance and see their incredible acting and singing come to life. Year 4 did a brilliant job supporting them with the songs and celebrating this special time of year.

Please find our updated virtual classroom attached to this blog to support optional Home Learning over the Easter holiday.

What an amazing term we have had, Year 4. Go and make some wonderful memories with your family and friends this Easter. We look forward to seeing you back on Monday 13th April. Best wishes from us all x

desktop-wallpaper-christian-easter-happy-easter-religious.jpg

What a final week of term we have had! With an Easter egg hunt, Easter quiz and even a visit from the Easter Bunny, there have been plenty of highlights.

A particular highlight of our English lessons came in the form of our ‘Great Eggscape’ activity. Our pupils became investigators, using their SPaG knowledge to analyse grammar clues, solve puzzle-based challenges and eliminate suspects one by one. Each task required careful thinking and investigative thinking as the class worked to uncover the Bandit’s true identity before he could escape with the Golden Egg forever. It was a fantastic way to bring grammar to life, combining problem-solving with learning and keeping everyone fully engaged in the hunt for the culprit!

In Maths, pupils also enjoyed an exciting Easter-themed mystery challenge. Working like both mathematicians and detectives, Year 6 pupils solved five different problems to uncover each clue. Along the way, they applied a range of key mathematical skills including the four operations, measurement, percentages, coordinates, ratio, formal division and calculating the area of triangles. Each correct answer brought them one step closer to revealing the egg’s secret location. Fantastic problem solving throughout!

We finished the week on a real high with our Easter Service, beautifully led by Year 3. It was made even more special by the singing from every class across the school, creating a truly powerful and uplifting atmosphere. A wonderful way to come together and celebrate at the end of a busy and exciting term.

It really has been a brilliant half term filled with hard work, enthusiasm and fantastic learning. We are incredibly proud of everything that the children have achieved and the effort that they have shown each day. We hope everyone has a wonderful and well-deserved break, and we look forward to seeing you all back next half term ready and raring to go!

Happy Easter!

Reminders:

-Year 6 PE lessons will continue to take place on Wednesdays (swimming) and Thursdays each week for the next half term.

- As previously communicated, the whole class has been provided with optional revision homework for both Maths and English, which would be beneficial for children to complete if time allows. This has been set via both the SATs Companion platform and the children have also been given a set of printed resources to use at home too.

-School re-opens on Monday 13th April.

What a wonderful and memorable term it has been in Year 3! We are excited to share everything the children have been working on as we get ready for Easter.

We are so proud of the Year 3 Easter performance in church, and what an incredible job the children did. They spoke clearly, sang beautifully, and performed so well. Well done everyone.

In Maths, the children have continued their fantastic work on fractions. They’ve been comparing and ordering fractions, deciding which ones are greater, smaller, or equal, and explaining their reasoning clearly.

In English, Year 3 have been busy writing their own information text on the theme of saving the whales. They have explored what threatens whale populations and how people around the world are trying to protect them. Their final articles were informative, persuasive and full of thoughtful ideas.

To get ready for Easter, the children have enjoyed a range of seasonal activities, including: creating Easter cards, taking part in a very exciting Easter egg hunt, receiving a special visit from the Easter Bunny!

Throughout the week we enjoyed the Rock Steady concerts, where our talented musicians performed in their very own bands! The children were confident, enthusiastic and full of energy. It was wonderful to see them shine on stage and share their musical skills with the school.

Thank you to all our amazing Year 3 children for their hard work. We hope you all enjoy a happy and restful Easter break! Please see the attached Virtual classroom for a range of online websites to use over the Easter break.

Reminders:

Year 3 PE days will be on Tuesday and Wednesday

Outdoor learning will continue to be on a Tuesday.

Year 2 - Week 4 - Spring 2

Date: 20th Mar 2026 @ 4:20pm

Another super week! Well done, Year 2!

This week, we have continued with our English text, 'Major Glad and Major Dizzy'. We have worked hard to develop our writing making it exciting by using adjectives, adverbs and exciting punctuation. This week we have written a range of different text types, from instructions to descriptions. The children also made their own soliders, a mamoth task which involved a lot of paint due to the pegs being made of plastic not wood! Next week, we will finish off our topic and we plan and writie a diary entry. The children will explore how the characters might feel during a Blitz attack and will aim to use a range of exciting vocabulary.

In Maths, we continued our topic on measurement. We continued with mass, focusing on comparing objects weight and using a range of differnet scales. As well as this, the children looked at the difference between grams and kilograms. As the week concluded, we looked at using the 4 operations to solve questions, some of us found this tricky so we will continue this next week nbefore moving onto volume.

In DT we began making our Ferris Wheels. We looked at desigining our wheels, identfiyin the different parts such as the axle and frame and ensured we included all parts using a design criteria. After, the children started creating the wheel and axle.We selected paper plates for this, and used straws. We decided that if the hole for the axle to go through was too big, then we could place some tac around the ourtside to make it smaller. Next week, the children will make the frame of the ferris wheel using either a cereal box or milk bottle before desiging and adding their pods.

In PE we continued with out topics of Dance and Invasions games. The children moved onto the circus theme and looked at how we could show we were different characters and also doing different jobs in the circus. In invasion games, the children looked at attacking and defending using a  ball. After, of course, we finished with the classes favourite game, dodgeball!

In Outdoor learning, the children excelled themselves! This week they worked in teams to not only light a fire but to make hot chocolate using a Kelly Kettle. For this, they had to use a knife and a mallet to chop wood, igniting the fire and boiling the water whilst also taking the kettle off carefully each time. Next week, the children will chop wood to make a big fire and then will come together to have marshmellows.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Reminders

PE is a Monday and Fridat

Please bring a water bottle to school and can children wear hats and cream on warmer days.
