Time flies when we are having fun in Nursery! We cannot believe it is half term already!
On Wednesday we took part in Forest school and planted our own sunflower seeds to take home and look after. The children followed a step by step process to ensure the seed had all that it needed at the first stage of planting. We cannot wait to see the pictures of your sunflowers when they have started to grow. We have also been looking after the plants and vegetables that we have been growing in the garden. The children have understood the importance of allowing the plants to have space, food, water and sunlight and the children helped to water all the plants in the garden. Well done Nursery!
For RSE week, we first talked about the importance of showing sensitivity to others feelings. We read the story ‘The Rainbow Fish’ and talked about how the children would feel in different scenarios. The children then made their own rainbow fish, using celery to print the scales. Later in the week we discussed the importance of developing positive relationships with adults and peers. The children came up with ideas of how we can be kind and caring friends in Nursery.
On Wednesday we walked to St Peter’s Church for our ‘WOW’ service. Caroline and Anne talked about a church being a special place. We sang some songs together with our friends in Reception and one of the children lit the candle. What a lovely service, thank you Anne and Caroline.
We hope you all have a lovely half term and see you all soon!

Well we cannot quite believe we are approaching half term!
For RE this week we enjoyed visiting St Peter’s Church for our WOW service. Caroline and Anne talked about how the church is a special place. The children always love visiting church and for the Reception class 2 more before we finish for the summer.
On Monday when we took part in Forest school in our outdoor area and replanted our sunflowers into our garden. We also talked about what we need to do to care for our plants and checked on the plants that have started blooming too. What great fun we had!
This week we have enjoyed learning all about ‘Ladybirds’. The children have enjoyed painting different types of Ladybirds, making ladybirds out of playdough and also trying to find them in our outside area. The children learnt that Ladybirds lay their eggs in clusters or rows on the underside of a leaf, so also spent time looking under the leaves to see if they could find any ladybird eggs.
We are also very excited about the bird’s nest in the outdoor area and have been thinking about different ways we can help the mummy bird. The children decided they would like to leave water for the bird over half term so she can have a little drink if she needs it. Keep checking on Twitter as we will keep you updated when the eggs hatch.
We wish you all a lovely weekend and a fabulous half term!

The end of term is upon us, our spirits are high and we have lots of reasons to feel proud of ourselves this term.
To reflect on our Collective Worship value of courage this term, we considered all the times we have been courageous by facing your fears and showing strength in the face of adversity. We recognised how courage refers not only to physical courage but also to moral or emotional courage. As a class, we decided that our favourite courageous moment this term was our efforts to face our fears and enter the Bat Cave at Chester Zoo!
Our Maths lessons have focused on supporting our ability to recall the times tables up to the x12 times tables. With a specific focus on the 6 and 8 times tables, we used times tables wheels to fill in the gaps to show the answer to a given times table, we performed raps and songs that left us singing the same song all day long and even recapped our calculation methods with chalk on the playground. We understand how tricky it can be to answer a given multiplication question so quickly, but we know if we keep working hard on all the tips and tricks we have been practising, we will be confident in recalling times tables quicker and quicker each day.
It was a joy to revisit some of our English books from Year 2 and look back at a piece of poetry we wrote inspired by the Matilda Musical song ‘When I grow up’. From Lamborghinis to flying off to space, our dreams had no limits! We adopted our poems from two years ago and changed the verses to include a more up to date focus on our future hopes and dreams, consider the hopes we have for others too. We used a repetitive pattern and the phrase ‘so that I’ to add justification for our hopes and dreams. Our poems are definitely worthy to be read aloud on the West End Stage!
In Spanish, we learnt the Spanish words associated with the items we use daily in the classroom and the equipment we need to support our learning. We learnt how we can use the phrase ‘Tengo’ to mean ‘I have’ and add the Spanish word for the equipment in front of us to finish the phase to explain to someone the things we have in our pencil class. Our focus turned to considering whether to use ‘un’ or ‘una’ and how ‘mi’ should be used if we are talking about an item that is mine.
On Friday, must to our delight… we used Minecraft Education to complete a series of challenges that enabled us to develop our coding skills. In order to build our very own version of TSP using the software, we had to collaborate online to create digital content and create a 3D structure using the Minecraft tools.
To conclude the week, we spent time as a class making valuable memories and sharing our highlights from the term. It was also time to say goodbye to Miss Bradford and Miss Hadwin as we wish them well as they continue their teacher training.
Wishing you all a lovely half term break. We can’t wait to hear all about it on our first day back!
Reminders:
- Please ensure that children come to school with a water bottle each day, especially during these hotter days.
- Year 4 PE lessons will remain on Tuesday and Friday each week.
- Year 4 Multiplication Check Week 1 commencing Monday 5th June.

What an incredible term we have had together, roll on the next and final one of the year! I cannot beleive we only have 6 weeks left until Year 2!
In Maths, we finished our topic on Fractions and showed an excellent understanding in our recap session. We were able to put our understanding of halves and quarters to the test and apply it to both practical and written questions. Next term, we will explore Geometry in our first week back exploring position and direction.
In Phonics, Children were reassessed by myself, Miss Jones, and regrouped accordingly. As well as this we continued to prepare for the Phonics Screen Check focusing on embedding those last few sounds and reading longer words. Children will not get books for over half term, please refer to the additonal videos.
We finished off our Art topic on Henri Rosseau by focusing on his use of bright colours and obsession with animals by exploring some of his most popular pieces of Art. We soon learnt that Rosseau liked to hide animals in his art work hiding them in his landscapes by using vibrant coloured leaves as a disguise. We then used this understanding of his artwork, to create our own animal masks inspired by his colours and designs.
We finished off our topic on 'Farms', in Geography, and explored the different farms around us due to our enviorment.
On Thursday, we completed 'Computing Day'. This term, we focused on creating our own books and developed our understanding of uploading images/downloading images and how to add text to a document. As well as this, we loved learning about QR codes and how we can used them to download images and resources.
Finally, from all of us here in Year 1, we hope you all have a wonderful and restful half term and cannot wait to see you in a weeks time, ready for our final six weeks. Please see the Virtual Classroom attached for resources to support you further, should you wish.
Notices/Reminders
- Year 1 will now have PE on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. Please ensures children come ot school in their full PE kits on these days.
- Please ensure that children come to school with a water bottle each day, especially during these hotter days.
- Year 1 will be going on a school trip to Tatton Park on Thursday 8th June. They will need to arrive to school promptly as we will need to leave at 9am.
- Please explore the additonal videos which have been sent to you on School Spider over half term to prepare the children further. Please be reminded that if your child does not pass in Year 1, they will resit the PSC in Year 2.

In RE, we were very lucky this week to have the wonderful Reverand Gordon visit from St Peter's Church, he talked to the children about Baptism in the Christian faith and discussed why a vicar carries out the different parts of the service. After, he allowed some of the children to take part in a 'mini' baptism on two very special dolls.
In Maths, we have been finishing out topic on fractions and explored the differences between fractions and divsion. Next week, we will finish this topic and will recap this topic accordingly.
We became artists again in this week and created our own natural landscape pictures based on our focus artist, Henri Rousseau. We discussed how landscape does not only mean turning the page but how it could also describe the background or scenery. We then compared this to our previous portrait work and identified similarites and differences.
In Geogrpahy, we explored map reading, and using clues we were able to explore maps of a farm and identifty the various features of the farm. It was a highly exciting activity which saw an incredible amount of team work!
You may also have noticed the installation of our Community Book Swap Box here at Trinity St. Peter's. This has been installed in memory of Margaret Blake, a past Governor here at TSP, who loved coming in to school and hearing children read. It is located on the wall (near the defibrillator) and the idea is for the whole community (adults and children) to use this book swap box so we can share our love for reading with all!
Notices/Reminders
- After half term, the children's PE days will change to a Tuesday and a Wednesday. Children should come to school on these days in their full PE uniform.
- Please ensure children come to school with a full water bottle each week especially during the warmer days.
- Next week, children will be assessed again in their Phonics.

What a busy week!
After plenty of preparation, the time to sit our KS1 SATs had arrived! We could not be any prouder of all the children; they showed such positivity, resilience and optimism throughout the week. Despite coming in on Monday feeling nervous initally, those nerves were quickly gone! We realised they weren't as bad as we thought they were going to be and we used it as our time to shine.
Not only did we do our SATs, but we also had time to fit in our school photo, a race in PE, learning all about the human life cycle in Science and then even finished the week off with a movie and some ice pops!
Well done, everyone - you are all superstars! The Year 2 team couldn't be any prouder.
Have a lovely, well-deserved rest!
See you all on Monday!

What a fun week we have had in Nursery this week! It has been so lovely to see the children running around outside in the sunshine, giggling and having fun witih their friends.
This week our focus was ‘Planting and Growing’. The children learnt all about the importance of planting in the right way to make sure the vegetables and fruit grow as we would like them to. The children found out that plants have four specific needs being, space, sunlight, food and water. We had so much fun planting seeds that will turn into different fruit and vegetables. It was so lovely to see how involved the children were and how well they worked as a team. We cannot wait to watch them grow! Later in the week we learnt a song that helped us remember the planting and growing process. We sang along with the actions and all sounded amazing! Nursery then worked in small groups using cards to sequence the process. Well done everyone!
Outside, the children have started to notice lots of different insects; some that they haven't seen before. We got our magnifying glasses ready to go on a hunt to see what we could find. We had smiles and excitement all around!

Lots of subjects being taught this week - while still fitting in more post-SATs celebrations!
As computer scientists, we enjoyed some coding practice this week through our ‘Computing Day’. On Monday, we explored the game, Crossy Roads, thinking carefully about its features and what makes it a good game. We were then introduced to the iOs app, Hopscotch to allow us to explore some of our STAR vocabulary: event, command, loop, random and range. Following this, we had apply our knowledge by using the app to create our own version of Crossy Roads. All the children were able to do this successfully, with some even managing to set various levels of difficulty and additional levels fo their game!
As mathematicians, we embarked on a rather exciting venture…designing a theme park! Throughout the week, the children had to work together in small groups to design the layout of their park based on the costings of amenities and ride types and ensuring they meet all health and safety requirements, such as including the minimum number of toilets and park benches required. They also had to apply their mathematical knowledge by calculating the running and advertising costs and – from there – deciding on entrance admission fees to ensure they make a profit!
Towards the end of the week, the children presented their ideas, including posters and trailers, and were assessed on their creativity, likelihood of success and business acumen. The children have absolutely LOVED this project and it has been a joy to see them so enthusiastic about completing each task – whilst learning new vocabulary such as ‘marketing’, ‘revenue’, ‘expenditure’ and ‘profit’!
In History, we have commenced our new topic on ‘Crime and Punishment’, exploring broad trends from the Roman period to society today. Although our original goals this week were to learn about some common trends and have time to independently research crime and punishment from our chosen period, our first lesson involved us discussing crimes we are aware of today and methods of crime prevention, which then actually led to more of a PSHE lesson on how we should stay safe in the community. All the children and staff were very open in sharing experiences and knowledge and we feel it was definitely a worthwhile discussion!
Elsewhere, we have continued with our Spanish lessons, this week combining our previous topics of ‘sport’ and ‘clothing’ to learn how to explain the clothing of different athletes! In PE on Thursday, we had a carousel of ‘tri golf’ activities, kindly set up for us by our Y6 Sports Leaders.
Finally, on Friday, we had our second post-SATs celebration in school! This time, the children came into school in their own clothes to be greeted with large ‘2022’ balloons, treats and music before being informed that an inflatable obstacle course had indeed arrived on the school field and they had exclusive access to it all day! We had a wonderful time as a whole Year 6 team.

A special ‘well done’ to our boys’ football team, who competed in a very tough match against St Luke’s Primary School. Mr McCabe was very impressed with the positive attitude and skill on display!
Have a fantastic weekend!

A brilliantly busy week in the Year 5 classroom! Here are just some of our highlights…
Our Ancient Greece focus led to an exciting (and challenging) Art lesson in which we learned about how sculpture was very popular in ancient Greece and lots of sculptures and statues still survive today. These sculptures tell us a lot about life in ancient Greece and the people who lived there. After exploring lots of different examples, we then replicated one of the structures by carving into soap. Great care and attention was taken by the children as they knew that, rather than adding features such as noses and eyes, they had to consider how to carve away the soap to reveal them. Perhaps some future sculptors in the making!
In RE, we continued our focus on Women in the Old Testament as we delved into the life of Jochebed (Moses’ mother). The children considered the reasons why Moses’ mother put him in a basket to float down the river and the significance and the impact of her doing so. A great deal of deeper thinking was employed as the children used green thinking hats to empathise with Jochebed and relate to the decision that she felt she had to make given the circumstances.
In Maths, we have continued to work on our understanding of fractions and applying this to multiplying whole numbers, mixed numbers and improper fractions. Next week, we will begin our geometry/shape focus as we move onto identifying regular and irregular polygons and also exploring the properties of 3D shapes in lots of practical lessons!
Our week ended with our Computing day which was focused on the world of AR (Augmented Reality). Alongside this, we also explored how to read and create our own QR codes too which would be essential within our final projects. A fun QR code hunt around the school helped us to take this even further! Later, after exploring a variety of apps and websites that use AR, we were given the challenge of designing our own games that use AR. We look forward to creating the final versions of our games next week!

An excellent week and we hope that the sun continues to shine long into the weekend. Enjoy and see you on Monday!
Reminders:
-Homework will continue to be set via Mirodo (as usual) for this week and spellings will continue to be set via Google Classroom.
-As per previous reminders via School Spider, next week is RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) week across the school.
Date: 17th May 2023 @ 8:11am

Well these weeks are truly flying by! The children are having so much fun and particularly enjoying spending time outside exploring the world around them.
For RE this week we have continued with our ‘Special places’ theme. The children really loved sharing their pictures of special places and discussing why these places were so special. The children had lots of interesting questions to ask each other, this also let us to think about Church as a special place to visit at times when we want to feel close to Jesus, although we did realise that we don’t always have to go to church to feel close to Jesus.
During Forest School, Reception enjoyed listening to the nature sounds around them and looking up to see what they noticed. We talked about how there were no clouds, the sun was shining, the leaves were different and how the trees connected in some parts of our Forest School area and so it was cooler in those parts.
This week we have enjoyed learning all about ‘Caterpillars’, we have been really lucky to have Caterpillars in the classroom, and for a few weeks we have watched them grow and get bigger. Finally, they are ready to go into their cocoons, so we are just waiting to see how long before we get beautiful butterflies. We have thought about what Butterflies may like to eat and have tried to plant different things in the outside area to attract them. We have also enjoyed lots of different activities around the classroom and particularly making our own butterfly prints and using new vocabulary like ‘symmetrical’ when discussing the patterns on the Butterfly wings.

Another great week in Year 4!
It was time to get crafty in RE and design our very own churches. Taking a step by step approach to outline the church building, we then added the finer details to show our awareness of the features in a church. Our churches came to life with the addition of stain glasses windows, created using coloured tissue paper to make our desired effect.
With the understanding that deforestation has a negative impact on the Amazon Rainforest, we acted by planning and writing letters to the tree surgeons in Brazil airing our concerns about the action they are taking. After setting out our letters using the formal letter writing features, we used exclamation sentence types, rhetorical questions and factual information to make our plea. In Geography, we supported our letters with an accompanying poster that highlighted the layers of the rainforest and the specific animals and habitats effected by deforestation.
As we draw closer to carrying out our Multiplication Check, we are focusing on the tricky times tables that require a few tricks and tips to help us master. Learning through songs, games and number lines are all strategies we are finding help us grasp the trickier facts we need to recall. We have also been confirming our understanding of converting between the 12- and 24-hour clock, writing in digital time and drawing the hands on an analogue clock face.
What a day we had on Friday! If the coach trip itself wasn’t exciting enough, our smiles filled the zoo as we watched the elephants showering, tigers roaring and penguins gliding. We headed off to explore different enclosures, spoke to many of the Zoo Keepers and ventured through their very own rainforest. To conclude the day, we mustered up the courage to enter the free flying bat cave.

What a busy, hard working week Year 2 have had!
In Maths, we continued our new topic of ‘Time’ where we explored quarter past and quarter to the hour in more detail. We then discussed how when the minute hand goes to a new number, this means five minutes have passed. We even noticed the link between this and our 5-times tables! Even though we found this a bit challenging, with determination and continually practising on our own clocks, we mastered this.
It was a very active week, as this week we continued practising our very own dance to The Little Mermaid’s ‘Under the Sea’. We became aquatic life again as we took on the role of all the creatures you would find under the sea.
In Geography, we explored the beautiful coast of St. Ives in Cornwall. We connected our learning back to the Autumn term where we explored Human and Physical features. We recapped these and then identified the human and physical features of
In Science, we continued to explore the importance of exercise and how it affects our body. We discussed all the different exercises, we as a class, take part in and how it makes us feel. We then went outside to have a run around and after, put our hands on our hearts and described how it felt.
To end the week, we explored the song contest Eurovision. We discussed how the UK are hosting it in Liverpool on behalf of Ukraine. We listened to the UK’s entry and think it’s great! We even designed our very own Eurovision outfit and thought about what song we would sing.
Have another great, song filled weekend Year 2!

What a fabulous week we have had this week, we are so proud of each and every one of you!
The children have really enjoyed talking about the Kings Coronation that happened over the weekend. It was lovely to hear the excitement in their voices as they came in on Tuesday to tell their friends about what they had seen.
This week, continuing with our ‘Dinosaur’ theme, the children learnt what a ‘fossil’ is. The children even got to pretend to be palaeontologists to explore dinosaur fossils in Nursery. The children had to carefully look at the shape to decide what dinosaur they think it could have been. Excellent work Nursery!
On Thursday, Caroline came into Nursery to talk to the children about ‘special places’. We learnt that Jesus had a special place and it was the synagogue. Caroline told the children about different things that you may find in a synagogue such as a lectern and a scroll. The children then talked about what their special place is. Thank you so much Caroline for a lovely session.
On Friday, we enjoyed dancing in the sunshine outside. The children twirled and swirled their way around the garden. What a lovely afternoon we had.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and see you all next week.
Miss Dalley and the Nursery team.

Well...what a week indeed!
After plenty of preparation and build-up, the time to sit our KS2 SATs finally arrived! We could not be any prouder of all the children; they showed such positivity, resilience and optimism throughout the week. Despite the 'dull' nature of sitting assessments, we did also manage to find many opportunities to have laughs along the way too and the children agreed that the SATs process wasn't actually as bad as they thought it could be! Well done, everyone - you are all superstars!
After our final assessment on Friday, we had a very 'chilled' day. We played games, saw our buddies...and some of us even enjoyed a little meditation with cucumbers on our eyes once again! We are are now looking forward to all the upcoming Year 6 events, including post-SATs celebrations next week, school trips and leavers' activities. Please check School Spider for a letter sent to parents today regarding some of our planned activities.
We hope the children all have a well-earned break this weekend..they certainly deserve it.
See you all on Monday!
Date: 10th May 2023 @ 9:39pm

What an amazing weekend of celebrations for the King’s Coronation, we have loved hearing all of the different ways you have celebrated.
We loved welcoming Caroline into class for Godly play, she started to talk to the children about special places and the importance of the church and why this is a special place. The children love it when Caroline visits and we look forward to seeing her soon.
This week we have loved learning all about ‘Dental Health’ we talked about experiences of visiting the dentist and why it is important to look after our teeth. On Wednesday were lucky to have a visit from a local dental practice, they talked all about how to keep our teeth clean, gave us some facts about our teeth and what foods are good for our teeth and ones we should avoid or have a little at a time. We also took part in a colouring competition and four of our friends won prizes for their pictures. We all took home a goody bag for us to use at home this included a toothbrush, timer, disclosing tablet, toothbrushing chart, book and stickers!
We have also taken part in lots of Dental Health activities around the classroom, these included brushing away the plaque, flossing and sorting food that is good and bad for our teeth.
We wish you all a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday.

We may have only been together for 4 days this week but boy have we had fun!
Continuing to think about our Collective Worship value of Courage, we thought about the courageous steps we can take towards overcoming our fears. We designed our very own church notice board in RE, displaying vital information about community activities, church events and worship times. We ensured that throughout our church notice board, Christians values were promoted and encouraged.
Excitement filled the classroom as our preparations and research projects for Chester Zoo got underway. After analysing virtual information boards around the zoo, we created our own information board bursting with factual information about the rainforest and the wildlife that might be found inside it. We selected our own catchy headings, pictures, 3 second summary and sub-headings to support the factual information we recorder to share with the reader. We recognised the importance of making the information board engaging to read and discussed how the use of questions, alliteration and both headings and sub-headings can contribute towards this.
We have recalled lots of facts about time this week, thinking about how many days are in each month of the year, the number of months in a year and also the conversion between seconds, minutes and hours. Later in the week, we considered why the numbers 13-23 are used on a clock and recognised that this meant the clock was in a 24 hour format. Next week, we will be converting times from their 24 hour format and considering the different ways we can represent times in the AM and PM.
In Science, we learnt about the water cycle and the process of evaporation, condensation and precipitation. We enjoyed representing the water cycle using sandwich bags and sticking them to the classroom window so we can observe the process over time and see how the water progresses around our cycles. To showcase the wildlife in the rainforest, we took inspiration from Henry Rousseau to create a water coloured backdrop to place our stencilled silhouette animals onto. Continuing with our focus on rainforests, we learnt all about the tribes who called the Amazon their home and compared their way of living to that in our modern society.
Taking all of our learning surrounding rainforests in to consideration, next week, we will be writing a letter to express our concerns regarding deforestation in rainforests and the knock-on effects deforestation has on wildlife, people and communities.
Have a wonderful weekend, Year 4. See you Monday!

Another shorter week but no less full of highlights and excellent learning taking place!
Our Ancient Greece focus led us to discovering more about a key part of their culture and leisure time – theatre! We focused on the two main types of plays that the Greeks performed: tragedies and comedies. We learned about how the Greek actors wore masks so that the audience could clearly see their expression and whether the character was happy, sad, angry or frightened. Also, how the masks had large mouth holes so that the actors voice could project well. After this learning, it was then time to make our own! This involved newspaper, Modroc casting plaster and a whole lot of fun (and just a bit of mess) putting them together. Take a look and see what you think!
In Maths, we have been focusing on multiplying fractions as well as converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers. Next week’s lessons will continue our fractions focus.
Our Collective Worship work has allowed us to consider the monthly value of Courage and the various associations of this word. We associated this with the courage of a lion in particular and enjoyed listening to some motivational speeches about how courage is within each of us and, although it can be difficult to find, it is part of us when we need it.
So that’s the end of another shorter school week. Just think of how much we will be able to achieve in five days rather than four next week! Until then…enjoy the weekend!

We certainly hit the high notes this week in, Year 1!
In Maths, we started our new topic, Fractions, and began the week exploring 'half' and 'whole'. We disccovered that for something to be cut in half, we must ensure that the two peices are equal and to have a whole, we must have both of the equal pieces. To helps us understand this further, we got hands on, and using playdough, we created our own shapes carefully cutting them in half to ensure both pieces are equal. As the week progressed, we started to look at halfing amounts and groups of objects. Next week, we will continue with this topic by finding a half of given objects before moving onto identifying and recognising quaters.
In Phonics, we have perservered with some of the more tricky sounds which as supported our fluency whilst reading. This week we developed our poetry skills, creating our own Acrsostic Poems for the Young Writers Competition. This poems will now be sent off with the hope that one of us will be the lucky winner or the competiton and/or they end up in their poetry book!
In Geography, we continued to explore Farms, we focused this week on understanding the differnet buildings and their purpose. This helped us understand the roles taken on by the farmers themselves.
On Friday, we ventured to Liverpool City Centre for an epic day our exploring the Eurovision displays and Euro Village. Here, we saw some incredible performers, dancing and singing as well as some specially designed statutes and musical stairs. Your behaviour was exceptional, Year 1, you truly were a credit to the school.
We hope thay you all have a wonderful weekend!

A short, but busy week!
Our monthly Christian value is COURAGE, which could not be more appropriate as the children have shown plenty of this in their approach towards SATs revision and opting for more challenging questions this week. Classroom displays have been hidden, tables have been rearranged and the children have been informed on how to complete the front page correctly…so there shouldn’t be any surprises on Tuesday! As per the last few weeks, we have continued to revise through the use of past papers, as well as songs, games and activities. Such games have included Blooket quizzes made by some of the children, as well as new games such as a SPaG version of ‘Blockbusters’!
Thursday afternoon saw us taking a break from SATs revision with the children taking part in a LEGO therapy session. The children were very excited about this and it was a great opportunity for them to continue to develop their creativity and thinking skills, as well as teamwork. Their PE lesson with Mr Brindley that followed allowed the children to practise their tennis skills in a carousel of activities led by some of Formby High’s Sports Leaders. These activities had the children practising their forehands, ball control through obstacles and general return shots.
On Friday, we celebrated King Charles’ Coronation. We were able to perform ‘New King’ with the rest of the school – a song we have absolutely loved practising back in class over the past two weeks! We also had a 'street party' outside at lunch time with our Year 5 peers.
The very end of the week saw us revising some Maths and SPaG knowledge. At the start of Friday afternoon, we all went into the hall with rolls of paper to write down all the mathematical knowledge we could think of to help us with our papers next week. Following this, the children returned to class to find…it had been transformed into a SPaG rave! Glow sticks were in full force as the children danced around to some of our favourite Grammasaurus songs. It was wonderful to see all the children having fun, but it was even better to see some children, who began the year rather reserved with this sort of activity, showing no shame with their singing and dance moves! What a great way to end the week!
We hope all the children are able to have an enjoyable weekend. In terms of SATs preparation, they should do whatever will help them relax, whether that means doing some final revision to boost their confidence or having a three-day break. Regardless of the outcome, we are extremely proud of all them and the hard work they have shown throughout the academic year. We cannot wait to celebrate their efforts after Friday morning!

What an exciting week we have had!
This week Nursery have been learning all about King Charles and his upcoming coronation. The children learnt the meaning of the word 'coronation' that this is a very special and memorable event. The children took part in lots of different activities such as making crowns, baking biscuits and making flags. The children have even acted out their own celebration in the home corner with afternoon tea. On Friday, we celebrated with our own coronation lunch. We enjoyed celebrating with our friends in Reception class, eating a delicious picnic, playing games and making a card for King Charles for his special day. We have had so much fun!
We had a very exciting visit from some slimy snails this week. The children thoroughly enjoyed observing and interacting with the snails and learning facts about them. They brought so much enjoyment to our class.
The children have been using their imagination and role play, using the crates to make buildings and vehicles. It has been lovely to see the children working together to achieve what they set out to do. Well done Nursery!
We hope you have a lovely bank holiday weekend.

A short, yet productive, week for us in Year 4!
Thinking about the colours we spotted when visiting St. Peter’s church last week, we reflected on why these particular colours are used within the church and the meaning behind them. After exploring what each colour signifies, we connected the colours to events in the Christian calendar such as Advent, Lent and Easter and identified the colour we would associated with each event or celebration.
In Maths, we compared amounts of money and recognised the notes or coins needed to make an amount greater than or less than a given amount. Using our understanding of rounding, we focused on recognising the nearest pound our amounts were closest to and visited the Year 4 TSP Sweet Shop again to check the change was correct when we purchased an item. Bringing all our learning together, we finished the week by solving money world problems.
After reminding ourselves of the key features of a non-chronological report, we identified the heading and factual information about the amazing Amazon rainforest. We were challenged to create a 3 second summary to explain what the page described and create our own sub-headings, for the numbered paragraphs. With so many words ending in the ‘ous’ spelling, we reminded ourselves of the spelling rule when using this ending changing words such as danger and poison into dangerous and poisonous. Later in the week, we turned our attention to a group of cute Sloths and researched factual information we could use in our very own non-chronological report. Our facts were then grouped into paragraphs, as we allocated a suitable sub-heading to each paragraph.
We were thrilled to have been given the opportunity to have a Skateboarding lesson on Wednesday! With our helmets and knee pads on, we used our balance and coordination skills to not only control the movement of the skateboard but keep ourselves balanced when taking our feet off the ground. Another delight took place on Thursday, as we were introduced to the new Lego club starting next term with a taster to see how Lego can be a fun and interactive experience to enjoy with our friends.
Friday brought our very own Coronation picnic! We thoroughly enjoyed sharing this memorable experience with our friends and recognising the significance of the weekend ahead. Following our lunch, we completed artwork inspired by the future King by collaging a template of his face with all things British!
We look forward to seeing the new king lead our country and the fun celebrations we are taking part in this weekend. Have a great one, Year 4!

Year 1, you have been incredible this week!
On Wednesday, we had a special visit from the team at Rubicon for a special scooting session. We began by honing in on our scooting skills before moving onto some extra cool tricks! Because we were so good on the scooters, we were able to progress onto the skateboards. Here, we learnt how to not only balance on the skateboard, but to jump, and flick the board with and without support! It was truly an incredible experience, one we hope to repeat again!
In PE, we continued with our topic, Yoga, focusing on developing our breathing as we move through a sequence of movements. For this, we had to carefully breathe in and out at the correct points so we could hold our balances carefully, before calmly moving into the next pose.
In Maths, we finished our Multiplication and Division topic. We learnt what the phrase ‘shared equally’ meant and carefully executed this concept using concrete resources. As well as this, we recapped what doubling meant and doubled numbers up to 20! Next week, we will start our new topic on Fractions, where we will begin by halving shapes and groups of objects.
In Art, we continued with our topic on Henri Rousseau, today, we focused on drawing still objects such as flowers and exploring adding detail by adding colour through shading. Next week, we will learn about the difference between portrait and landscape, and begin to design our own pictures accordingly.
On Friday, as a school and as a class, we marked King Charles III’s coronation. We started the day by taking part in a whole school assembly, where we were able to sing our coronation song. After, we designed and created our own crowns ready for our coronation picnic! In the afternoon, we wrote letters to King Charles and cannot wait t to see if he replies!
From all of us here in Year 1, we hope you have a wonderful bank holiday to celebrate the King’s Coronation and cannot wait to see you all on Tuesday!

Wow, what a busy week!
In Maths, we started our new topic of ‘Time’ where we started to explore o’clock and half past the hour. Then, we even started to look at quarter past and quarter to the hour. We found this challenging, but once we practised on our own clocks throughout the week, it got easier and easier.
We had an absolutely amazing time this week on Scooting day where we zoomed around the playground practising loads of different tricks. We were SO good at this, that we were even challenged to some skateboarding tricks. This required a lot of balance and concentration but we absolutely smashed it. The Year 2 team were so impressed!
It was a very active week, as this week we also started practising our very own dance to The Little Mermaid’s ‘Under the Sea’. We chose our Ariel and we became aquatic life as we took on the role of all the creatures you would find under the sea. We had a fabulous time and stunned everyone with our groovy dance moves so far. We can’t wait to continue this next week.
In Science, we explored the importance of exercise (something which we have done plenty of this week) and how it affects our body. We discussed all the different exercises, we as a class, take part in and how it makes us feel.
In preparation for the King’s Coronation this weekend, we created our very own clay crowns which we then bejewelled to make them fit for a King! We then brought these to our Coronation picnic at the end of the week. We had a fun packed day which any royal would have been jealous of!
Have another amazing long and well deserve weekend Year 2!

A shorter week but still equally full of highlights and achievements for our brilliant Year 5 class! Here are just a few of them…
In History, we explored Greek mythology and the various heroes, monsters and gods/goddesses in the many mythical tales. This involved us playing against our shoulder partners in an exciting board game where we had to “collect” as many mythical objects as we could, all to appease the gods. We also finished the lesson with a game of ‘God, Hero or Monster?’ which further added to our knowledge base as we had to demonstrate various actions to show our thinking.
We have also been busy exploring how artists through the ages have told stories visually – e.g. the Bayeux Tapestry. We then had the opportunity to tell a wordless story of our own using textiles. This involved lots of creativity as well as important skills such as layering fabrics to create a desired effect.
In PE, we have been playing different variations of cricket in order to practise our batting, bowling and fielding skills in abundance. Diamond cricket was a particular favourite where the batters had to be on guard at all times as the bowlers shifted between four sets of stumps selecting which was best to target. This was a frantic game that required a real team effort and concentration throughout.
Our Maths work has focused on plotting coordinates across four quadrants and we have extended this to translation using coordinate grids too. Next week, our focus will shift to multiplying fractions.
Friday brought a particularly fun day in which we celebrated King Charles’ Coronation. This included the opportunity to perform ‘New King’ – a song which looks at the qualities that children would want from a monarch. We have enjoyed learning this song alongside the rest of the school in our Sing & Praise sessions. The day also involved a Coronation picnic, a Year 5 ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ show, some collaborative artwork and more. This allowed us to mark the significance of the weekend ahead.
Speaking of which, have an enjoyable bank holiday weekend and I look forward to seeing you on Monday!

We hope you all have had a fabulous bank holiday weekend and are ready to celebrate the King’s Coronation with another Bank holiday weekend ahead!
We have continued to enjoy talking about ‘Friends’ for our theme in RE. This week we looked at and explored different symbols of friendship. The children looked at the claddagh symbol; a native America symbol of friendship and also friendship bracelets. The children all enjoyed making a friendship bracelet for a friend in the class.
This week we have had so much fun learning all about ‘King Charles’ and his Coronation. We realise this is such a big event for the children and have celebrated it across the week by carrying out lots of different activities as we wanted to make this as memorable as we could for the children. The children began the week by discussing what we knew about King Charles and what the word ‘Coronation’ means. The children have enjoyed making their own golden coach, decorating crowns and even making their own King out of lollypop sticks. With the help of team TSP, some of the children have also had the opportunity to create a special coronation build a bear. We ended the week by having a special Coronation picnic with our Nursery friends in the outdoor area! What a truly special week we have had.
We wish you all a lovely weekend celebrating the King’s Coronation and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
