The sun is hot, hot, hot but that hasn’t stopped Year 2 from their work! We have had such a great week.
In Maths we continued our topic of ‘Statistics’ where we explored various ways of recording data. We recapped ‘Tally Charts’ and ‘Block Diagrams’ whilst introducing ‘Pictograms’ as well. We discussed the importance of including a key and how this key shows us what number each symbol represents. We then started our new topic of ‘Geometry’ starting with looking at ‘Language of Direction’ and exploring all the different ways we can describe direction e.g., above, below, between, right and left.
We continued reading our book in English, ‘Grandad’s Secret Giant’. We discussed and inferred how Billy and the Giant were feeling through certain situations, putting ourselves into their shoes (or rather big boots) to see how they felt. We continued to find loads of similes throughout the story, getting really excited when we discovered them.
We continued our giant exploring in Art where we created our very own dream jars from the BFG. We added lots of colour, sparkles and of course all our dreams! Not only this, but we created paper versions as well, creating gorgeous dream jars through watercolours and then writing our dreams and wishes for the future. We have some very ambitious dreams, which we are sure everyone will achieve no problem.s
In Science, we continued to explore our topic of ‘Little Masterchefs’ We explored the Eatwell Plate discussing what each section/colour represented and what foods went in each. We talked about how important it is to have things in moderation and the bigger a section is, the more of it we should eat. In History, we researched seaside holidays from the past and discussed how they are similar and different to the seaside holidays we have now.
Reminders:
- PE lessons take place every Monday and Wednesday this term.
- Please can you ensure that children are sent to school with water bottles, hats and sun cream.

A busy week with lots of sunshine!
Throughout the week, we have continuing to practise our drama skills, both in class and in the shade on the school field. We have discussed potential scenes we would like to do, as well as ideas for songs to perform. The children have then had time in groups to come up with ideas and perform in front of their peers, thinking carefully about stage directions and voice projection. The children have been very enthusiastic about it all and it was great to see so many asking for bigger speaking roles. We have already nearly learned one song we will be performing at the end of term and once again, the children’s efforts have continued to impress. We think it is going to be a great show! We have talked about how our parents will enjoy the show more if our plans and the final script are kept a surprise…so please do try and have some restraint at home and avoid asking your children about what they will be doing! We can however assure you that all the children will get the type of part in the show which they want.
In Maths, we were visited by Mrs Bennett from Formby High School. She led an activity on symmetry, where the children had to design masks for a display. Not only did the children need to think about the symmetry of the shapes they used to create their masks…but also the use of colour too! It was trickier than we thought!
As scientists, we revisited our Space topic from Year 5. The children were asked to recall what they could remember about the sun and moon before being given the question, “Why do they appear to be the same size in the sky?” They learned how the sun and moon appear the same size because the sun’s diameter is about 400 times greater – but the sun is also about 400 times farther away. To demonstrate how this works, we were set the task to take photographs with our friends, using distance to manipulate the final images. The results were great! Check out our Twitter page to see them.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

We have had so much fun in the sun this week!
This week the search began for our missing sand. After seeing our ‘Missing sand’ poster, Mrs Meredith kindly came down to Nursery as she thought she had found our missing sand. In her hand was a bag that said ‘yellow’ on it. The children each lifted up the bag to see if the contents were heavy or light. We then opened it up to see what was inside! Unfortunately, it wasn’t our sand, it was just shredded paper! Never mind, the search continues!
On Tuesday, we gained some new tadpole friends in Nursery. The children have been learning about the life cycle of a frog and we can’t wait to see the tadpoles grow. On Thursday, Fred the frog left a challenge for Nursery to find the missing pieces of his jigsaw in the outdoor area. We followed the clues and then worked together to piece the jigsaw together. We discovered the jigsaw was an image of the life cycle of a frog and we discussed the different stages of growth and the change. Great team work Nursery!
Nursery have been very busy this week making tasty treats for their very special Dads and Grandads. We read a lovely book called ‘My Dad is brilliant’ and the children talked about why their Dad or Grandad is special to them. We hope you love the amazing cards and tasty rocky road that the children have made for you!
We hope you have a lovely weekend and Father’s Day celebration on Sunday. See you all next week!

We’re not quite sure we really believe that it is Friday already; this week has passed by in a flash!
In another week of glorious sunshine, our PE lessons involved Tri-Golf and Kinball. In Tri-Golf, the children honed their technique and skills before progressing onto designing their own golf course. Using a variety of obstacles (and their own creativity), the children were tasked with designing a golf course hole for their friends to try. In Kinball, it was all aboard the Kinball train as the children had to work together to ensure that the train didn’t run out of track on its journey. The children loved this mini-game and also a further teamwork-based activity which involved working together to move the Kinball down the line both efficiently and whilst maintaining full control. Great fun was had in both PE lessons and bring on next week!
We had plenty of mindful moments throughout the week too as the children, in one activity, followed a calm script to notice more about how they were feeling. We also focused on mindfulness of sounds by first paying attention to the environment around us before focusing in on a specific sound and following it for as long as we could.
In Art, we carried on with our Cityscapes focus as we painted our own cityscape silhouettes which replicated photos of different cities, either at sunrise or sunset. The children’s creations were carefully made and stunning to look at.
Our Maths lessons this week involved recapping our mathematical learning so far this year through some assessments. We are delighted with the children’s positivity, resilience, maturity and overall effort in completing these assessments to the best of their ability. Well done, Year 5! Next week’s Maths lessons will focus on converting measurements (ml to L and g to kg).
Wishing you all an enjoyable weekend and thank you, Year 5, for all your hard work during a very warm week!
Reminders:
-Please read the guidance on Google Classroom for a ‘spelling challenge’ that the children have been set for the remainder of this academic year.
-English and Maths homework will continue as normal for the time being on Mirodo as usual.
-Should the warm weather and temperatures continue, please ensure that children apply suncream in preparation.

We hope you all had a fabulous weekend and are enjoying the sunshine!
For RE this week we continued to learn about our theme of ‘Prayer’. We learnt about how we can use our hand to help us to pray using each finger for a different meaning, for an example the thumb because it is closest to you when you look at your hands reminds us to pray for people we love. The children then enjoyed drawing around their hands and talking about the ‘five finger prayer’.
We are loving our theme of ‘Superheroes’. This week we watched a short film about 10 rules of a superhero, we then asked the children to think about if they could have a super power what their superpower might be and why they would like to have that power. The children described to their friends how they would use their powers, what fun we had!
We have also spent the week thinking about Father’s Day and the special father figures in their life. We made a card and a special gift to share with our Father’s / father figures and talked about what makes them so special.
We have also taken advantage of the lovely weather this week and enjoyed lots of water play, watering our plants and cold ice pops for snack!
We wish you all a lovely weekend!

The sun might be shining, but the heat hasn’t stopped our productivity this week!
In RE, we discussed how we have all had opportunities to pray in many different ways, through our school assemblies, time in church and our own reflective time. We explained what prayer means to us and concluded that a prayer is an expression of belief and commitment. Using our handprints, we unpicked using our five fingers, five things we pray for including those who teach us, lead us, those who love us and those who are sick and weak.
This week we have carried out lessons to recap our learning and completed assessments to showcase our knowledge. The positivity and passion for learning that fills the room when the children are tasked with showcasing their thinking is incredible to see!
We are delighted to announce that our Multiplication Check is officially over and we couldn’t be prouder of the commitment and dedication the children have shown towards recalling their times tables. What a joy to hear from all of the children that the test ‘Really wasn’t anything to be worried about!’
In PE, we have been working hard to prepare for our up and coming Sports Day. From the egg and spoon race to the sack race, we smiled and laughed throughout as we raced our way to victory against our friends and even mastered a three-legged race. We cannot wait to show our parents and careers the races we have been practising in a couple of weeks.
For our History lesson this week, we thought about the perception people have of the Vikings and why this might be so. We unpicked different accounts of Vikings and noticed that they differed depending on whether they were written by a Saxon or a Viking. Later, we found that the Monks had lots of wealth giving them the ability to write their version of what happened to them and therefore, sheading a bad light on the Vikings.
Continuing with our focus on the wonders of bubbles, we investigated whether or not bubbles can change in size and the science behind why a bubble pops.
A week full of hard work and smiles, Year 4. Thank you for shined brighter than the stars in the universe!
Reminders:
- As the weather is becoming warmer, please ensure your child brings a sun hat, water bottle and sun cream to school.
- Children reading on the school book band should ensure their book is brought back into school to be changed on their reading day each week.

What a busy but fantastic first week back we have had! It was so lovely to see all the children back and enjoying spending time with their friends and hearing about what everyone got up to.
In Maths we started our new topics of ‘Statistics’ where we explored various ways of recording data. We looked at ‘Tally Charts’ where we discovered that after scoring four marks, we have to cross the gate to make it a group of five. We talked about how this makes it far easier to read than having to count loads of little lines. We even noticed the correlation between that, counting up in 5s and the 5-times tables. Not only this, but we explored ‘Tables’ and ‘Block Diagrams’ and deciding which way to record data we liked the best.
Our new book in English is ‘Grandad’s Secret Giant’ which generated some discussion about other various fictional giants such as the BFG. We started by creating our very own giants, making them as tall and as long as we could. Some of us decided to make them a friendly giant while others decided theirs would be the scariest. As a class, we discussed what a simile was and then used our new knowledge to describe our giants. Some of the similes we created were superb! ‘His hands were as big as rowing boats; his head was as big as a boulder and his feet were as wide as three double decker buses’.
In Science, we explored our new topic of ‘Little Masterchefs’ where we discussed what we thought a Masterchef was. We brainstormed with names like Gordan Ramsey and Jamie Oliver popping up. We then discussed what health and safety rules are needed in the kitchen when preparing and cooking food. Rules that we came up with included tying back your hair, washing your hands, washing fruit and vegetables and cleaning up any spillages. We even found out that chefs traditionally wore hats to keep their hair back but even better, the taller their hat, the higher rank they have in the kitchen!
We ended the week with an amazing visit from Simon Hunt who came to tell us all about and read his new book ‘Delilah Rose the Bogey Princess’ to us. We had an absolutely amazing time, from trying to reach our toes up to our nose to getting our finger ‘stuck’ up our noses. We felt loads of different emotions when reading the book - shocked, appalled, delighted and so many more! We absolutely loved it. We have been inspired to write our very own books and were in awe when Simon told us we are all already authors from the stories we write in school!
Reminders:
- PE lessons take place every Monday and Wednesday this term.
- Please can you ensure that children are sent to school with water bottles, hats and sun cream.

Well, we are back…for our final half-term at Trinity St. Peter’s!
In Reading and Writing, we have been working on a unit linked to ‘adventurers’ and ‘leadership’ and we have learned about a number of significant literary and real-life explorers such as Beowulf, Charles Darwin and Robert Falcon Scott. Our final task this week was to write four paragraphs about a leader of our choice. There was a wide range of leaders chosen, both real and fictional, from various time periods and areas of profession. Volodymyr Zelensky, Emmeline Pankhurst, Captain America, Winston Churchill…the list goes on! All the children should have now uploaded their final pieces onto Google Classroom if any parents wish to have a read – we would highly recommend!
As linguists, we have moved onto a new topic in Spanish: ‘The Beach’. A very relevant topic indeed! This week, we learned new vocabulary linked to items you would take on a beach trip and practised writing / saying phrases and sentences to describe this.
In PE, the children were given the choice of what they would like to do as a class for Monday’s lesson. As this is the children’s last half-term in primary school, this is the time to make some final memories altogether and so we thought about the best possible games we could play that would encourage this. Games such as dodgeball, bench ball and rounders were discussed, but in the end, the vast majority voted on a whole-class game of ‘man hunt’! This was a great idea as the children have never played this as part of a PE lesson; usually it is reserved for break time. We played a few variations of the game, each time reflecting on what worked and how we could improve the next round. The children had a great time – especially as their running / hiding area was not limited to just the school field!
Thursday’s PE lesson with Mr Brindley saw the children practising their driving and chipping in golf. A special ‘well done’ to those children who represented the school in a golf tournament at Formby Hall on Wednesday afternoon; another great opportunity for our pupils, who made us all very proud.
Our week concluded with a visit from author, Simon Hunt. Simon is a teacher but also author of the story, 'Delilah Rose: The Bogey Princess' and (upcoming) 'Billy the Bottom Burping Pirate'. He delivered a great workshop to the UKS2 classes and kept the Y6 pupils back for a talk on aspirations. Thank you, Simon!
Have a great weekend, everyone!

What a busy week we have had in Nursery! We hope you have all had a lovely half term break!
On Tuesday we hopped onto the coach and went off to Farmer Teds! We could not contain our excitement! The children took part in lots of different activities such as handling Guinee pigs, riding on mini tractors, visiting the minibeasts and even getting to stroke a snake! We then went on a very exciting tractor ride where we saw lots of ginormous dinosaurs. We gave a big ‘roar’ as we went past and the children enjoyed naming the different dinosaurs. We then watched the ‘sheep show’ where the Farmers told us all about the different sheep at the farm. One of them had the same name as one of our friends! What a fabulous day we had!
Following on from our trip, the children learnt all about where wool comes from. Kindly, one of the Farmers at Farmer Teds gave us some wool to take back to Nursery to handle and explore. The children recalled the process of how the wool is sheared from the sheep and how it can eventually be be used to make wool clothing such as socks, jumpers and hats.
On Wednesday Nursery could not believe what had happened! The sand had disappeared from Nursery. The children came up with many ideas as to where it could have gone or who could have taken it. We then decided to make a poster to help us find the missing sand and delivered it to each class in the school. I wonder where it could be!
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and see you all next week.

We can’t believe it is here already…the FINAL half term of Year 5! Time certainly has raced by up to this point but we are not taking anything for granted as there is still so much left to achieve and plenty more memories to be made. For now, here are some highlights from a week where the sun and children alike were shining brightly.
With the start of June, we commenced our new monthly value focus of Koinonia. We learned how Koinonia can be translated from Greek into the words, ‘fellowship’ and ‘communion’. We extended this further to the sense in which koinonia means community and working together for the common good of other people. We will continue to built upon our understanding throughout the rest of this month!
In Maths, we have continued our focus on 3D shapes and their properties and progressed onto recognising different shapes from their various nets. Next week’s lessons will recap all of our learning so far this year through some assessments.
In our reading work, we have been reading ‘The Hunter’ by Paul Geraghty, which is the story of a little girl called Jamina who goes out into the African bush with her grandfather. Her dream is to be a hunter when she is older but, when she is separated from her grandfather, she finds a baby elephant whimpering besides its dead mother. As Jamina bravely helps the little orphaned elephant, we are eager to find out where this journey takes her.
We had a great treat to end our week as we were visited by author, Simon Hunt who visited to share his love for storytelling, reading and writing with the children. We enjoyed listening to his story, ‘Delilah Rose the Bogey Princess’, and the opportunity to hear about how Simon's book came to be published as well as always remembering to dream big, inspired us even further. We will be sure to keep an eye out for any future books written by Simon!
A brilliant week and wishing you all a fantastic weekend. See you all on Monday!

We hope you all had a fabulous half term and all ready for a fun packed final half term in Reception!
For RE this week we have started to think about Prayer. We began our session thinking about when we pray and prayers that we knew. We then looked at lots of different objects we may use to help us pray, such as rosary beads and holding crosses. We talked about the Lords prayer and how he taught this to his special friends ‘The Disciples’ in case they did not how to pray or what to say.
On Monday we enjoyed our first visit of the half term to ‘Forest School’, we have so much fun and just love visiting our forest school site each week. This week we spent some time exploring the changes in the environment and then went on to use some of the natural resources around us to create faces on the trees, if you pass forest school see if you can spot any of the faces!
We were very excited to start our new theme ‘Superheroes’. The role play has been turned into a superhero headquarters, where the children have had the opportunity to dress up as a superhero and think about what the role of a super hero is. The children have enjoyed thinking about what makes a superhero and if they know any superheroes? The children also enjoyed thinking about if they were a superhero what super powers would they have and why? We look forward to seeing where our learning will take us!!!
As we finished for half term our caterpillars had changed into beautiful butterflies and out tadpole had grown legs and changed into a frog. The Birds nest has four chirping chicks in and we have enjoyed watching the parents gathering food and listening carefully to chirping they make!
We wish you all a lovely weekend and continue to enjoy the sunshine!

The final term is upon us and we are delighted to be spending lots of opportunities learning and having fun in the sunshine.
With a focus on shape and space, it was time to recap our understanding of angles and how we can determine whether an angle is acute, obtuse or a right angle, focusing on 90 degrees as our guide point. With the help of Pac-Man and his right-angled mouth, we found the types of angles in the letters of our names and identified that a full 360-degree turn can be split into four lots of 90 degrees. Our attention then turned to comparing the sizes of angles, before identifying the different types of triangles. Next week, we will identify the names of quadrilaterals and make different 2D and 3D shapes using art straws to determine their properties.
Moving on from stories surrounding the wonders of volcanoes, we now delve into the depth of caves and caverns with inspiration from the wonderful book titled ‘Blue John’. The story sees us venturing down into the caves where the Queen of Darkness lives and we follow the adventures of her rare and precious baby, Blue John, who has been created using the blue of a glacier and the gold of the sun. Using the text, we discussed what stalactites are and used similes to describe how they grow. We used aspects of the text to correct the use of past tense and used commands to write a set of instructions.
We observed and investigated bubbles in Science, exploring whether all bubbles rise and if bubbles can change colour or shape. In Art, we remembered that the heaviness or lightness of the shading we use can change with the pressure of our pencil and/or making the lines and dots closer together or further apart. In PE, it was time to start preparing for our up and coming Sports Day by completing some speed running races to increase our pace and carrying out different obstacle courses to enhance our speed and agility.
Our History lessons this term all stem around our perspectives of the Vikings and the stereotypes we hold. We generated a range of adjectives and nouns used to describe Vikings and reinforce the chronology of the times of the first Viking raid using a timeline of events. In the role of Saxon spies, we draw from memory, a Viking ship and then posed questions to analyse its features. Next week, we will examine why Vikings have such a bad reputation.
A huge thank you to the incredible Simon Hunt who joined us this week to share the delights of his book which is titled, 'Delilah Rose: the Bogey Princess' and some wonderful and inspiring poetry.
An excellent week and we hope that the sun continues to shine long into the weekend. Enjoy and see you on Monday!
Reminders:
- Due to the sunny weather, please ensure children bring a water bottle, hat and suncream to school.
- PE days continue every Tuesday and Friday.

And, just like that, we have started our final term in Year 1 and what an adventure we will have!
We had the most incredible time on our school trip to Tatton Park on Thursday, where we were able to travel back in time to the Victorian Era and experience what life was like back then. We loved donning tradtional Vicotrian clothing and acting out parts of their every day life from school to cleaning, even the teachers got involved! This was the perfect start to our new History topic, ' Is it better to be a child now than in the past?'. As the weeks progress, we will use our experience from this trip as well as aretefacts to compare life now, and then.
In Maths, we started, and finished, our new topic, Geometry, exploring the postion and direction of various objects describing postitons after they are moved. Next week, we will visit our topic on Place Value, exploring numbers to 100.
We explored materials and textures in Art and investigated how different one can affect the other. This week, we explored how you can create different patterns and pictures using a range of different medium such as; paper, tissue paper and paint. We are delighted with how our creations turned out.
The summer weather brought with it the summer sports and we absolutly loved getting outside to complete both Athletics and Striking and Feilding. In Athletics, we completed a range of different activities in preparation for Sports Day from running races to the egg and spoon. It was very exciting. As well as this, we practiced hitting, large and small balls, with a variuos bats exploring how the different ones create more power or 'stirke' to move the ball across the field.
We explored summer in Science as well, comparing our current glorious summer weather to the previous seasons. We discussed we must keep ourselves safe in the sun and identified various items that we shoud used as a result.
Reminders
- Please can you ensure that children are sent to school with water bottles, hats and suncream. The weather is getting hotter and we do not have the resources to supply the children with the above. Please also note that staff are unable to apply suncream to children so please can you practice with your child at home.
- Next week the children will complete their Phonics Screen Check, the check itself will be seamless and the children will be unaware of it compared to other assessments. As stated previously, we will not be able to share results with you until the reports due to the government deciding on the pass score. TO support your child, please complete the videos which have been shared with you over School Spider.
- PE days will continue to be on a Tuesday and Wednesday each week, please ensure children are dress appropriotely for their lesson.

What a busy, hard working week Year 2 have had!
In Maths, we continued our new topic of ‘Time’ where we explored past the hour and to the hour. We discussed how when the minute hand goes to a new number, this means five minutes have passed. We utilised our 5-time tables extremely well this week for this. We then created our own flower clock to help us remember which side is to the hour and which is past.
Our ‘Under the Sea’ dance is getting better and better each week! We introduced some new creatures into our dance including sharks, crabs, fish and even some jellyfish. We look forward to performing this for everyone.
In Geography, we recapped on all the knowledge we learnt about seas and coasts. We also explored new facts about the five seas. We discovered that the Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean and the Artic is the smallest ocean.
In our guided reading sessions, we finally finished our book ‘The Fantastic Mr Fox’ and what an amazing book it was! We absolutely loved going on this adventure with Mr Fox and his friends, digging through tunnels and escaping from Boggis, Bunce and Bean the evil farmers. We then finished off the week by watching the movie and discussing the similarities and differences from the book.
Have a well deserved and long week off, Year 2! Please see the Virtual Classroom attached for resources to support you further, should you wish.
Reminders:
- PE lessons will now take place on a Monday and Wednesday this term.
- Please ensure that children come to school with a water bottle each day, especially during these hotter days.

Attending the opening of a new restaurant; a little bit of golf and some tennis in the sun…it’s been a very ‘Formby’ week!
Perhaps the main highlight of this week has been our writing focus, which has been writing a review. On Monday, we discussed why, when and how we use reviews before considering how you would word positive and negative reviews of the witch’s cottage in the story of ‘Hansel and Gretel’. On Tuesday, the children came to school and discovered that their classroom has been transformed into a new restaurant called Bar 23. They were shown to their tables, waited on by the staff and ordered food and drink from the menu. Each child’s experience was unique to say the least! Some had a great time while others were left feeling dissatisfied and underwhelmed. Once the children ‘left’ the restaurant, they had to rate their experiences and write up a review of this new establishment. The children thoroughly enjoyed this short writing unit and it has certainly been reflected in the reviews they have written. For some children, this has been their best piece this year!
Our ‘crime and punishment’ topic in History has also continued. The children learned about trends during many different periods: Roman, Tudor, Victorian and Early Modern. They were then given the opportunity to focus on a period that interested them most and carry out their own research into crimes and punishments at that time. Their next lesson involved them reading the tale of Robin Hood, which enabled them to think creatively and critically about the justice system at this time.
‘RSE Week’ has brought us lots of new information, questions and certainly some (possibly awkward) laughter along the way! On Thursday, as a whole class we recapped on our RSE lessons from last year and recalled the changes our bodies will go through during puberty; however as we discussed these in our gender groups last year, this week we were able to learn about and have empathy for what the opposite gender will experience. This created lots of questions from the children, which were easily explained through the brilliant ‘Kay’s Anatomy’ book by Adam Kay. (Please note: as per message sent to parents, the relevant chapters of this book can be found on Google Classroom.) Throughout the rest of the day, we discussed peer pressure and consent; personal hygiene and where you can go for support. The children participated in these lessons with great enthusiasm and maturity; we are very proud of how they conducted themselves.
In Art, we explored how artists use different perspectives and media when creating various pieces. On Tuesday, we had an enjoyable afternoon focusing on our own artwork linked to ‘landscape’ – as you will be able to see on our Twitter feed.
Our PE lessons this week have continued with ‘tri golf’ on Monday and tennis on Thursday. The children competed in mini-matches in both sports, enjoying the sunshine outdoors while doing so. We have been impressed with the improvements the children have made in both areas. Also, a special ‘well done’ to those children who competed in the cross-country events this week. We were very impressed with the children’s enthusiasm and perseverance!
Have a great half-term break, everyone!
Date: 25th May 2023 @ 7:39pm

How have we reached this point already? The end of the penultimate half term of Year 5 for this amazing class! Throughout this half term, we have achieved so much and you have hopefully gained a snapshot of our incredible learning either within this blog or via our class Twitter page. This week was no different in terms of memorable moments in learning with plenty to report…
In our Maths learning, we have been focusing on 2D and 3D shapes. A particularly fun lesson was our active Maths lesson which involved finding different shape challenges hidden around our classroom and the outside area. The children then had to apply their knowledge of regular and irregular shapes to successfully solve each challenge question. Other lessons have included identifying the properties of 3D shapes in a practical lesson involving building skeleton shapes using blu-tack and art straws.
In English, we completed our author book work which was the culmination of our writing from throughout the half term. The children were tasked with creating a hybrid persuasive-information piece using their knowledge gained from our lessons on environmental awareness alongside our focus picturebook, ‘The Paperbag Prince’. Their impressive writing was also accompanied by some equally impressive artwork.
We also completed our final AR (Augmented Reality) project in Computing which we started last week. This involved us using our creativity to create our own “scenes” and then bringing them to life through AR within our classroom. The children enjoyed seeing their creations come to life and projecting their scenes and images around the room.
Our Collective Worship work continued our focus on our monthly value of ‘Courage’. We explored two powerful videos; one showing physical courage (a bird learning to fly) and the second video representing moral courage (Desmond Tutu discussing the resistance to apartheid). The children discussed these poignant videos in such a deep, meaningful way and applied their understanding of courage brilliantly.
What a week and a fitting way to end this half term. See you all in a week’s time for the FINAL half term of Year 5. We’ll be sure to make it the best yet!
Reminders:
-PE lessons next half term will still take place every Wednesday and Thursday.

Time flies when we are having fun in Nursery! We cannot believe it is half term already!
On Wednesday we took part in Forest school and planted our own sunflower seeds to take home and look after. The children followed a step by step process to ensure the seed had all that it needed at the first stage of planting. We cannot wait to see the pictures of your sunflowers when they have started to grow. We have also been looking after the plants and vegetables that we have been growing in the garden. The children have understood the importance of allowing the plants to have space, food, water and sunlight and the children helped to water all the plants in the garden. Well done Nursery!
For RSE week, we first talked about the importance of showing sensitivity to others feelings. We read the story ‘The Rainbow Fish’ and talked about how the children would feel in different scenarios. The children then made their own rainbow fish, using celery to print the scales. Later in the week we discussed the importance of developing positive relationships with adults and peers. The children came up with ideas of how we can be kind and caring friends in Nursery.
On Wednesday we walked to St Peter’s Church for our ‘WOW’ service. Caroline and Anne talked about a church being a special place. We sang some songs together with our friends in Reception and one of the children lit the candle. What a lovely service, thank you Anne and Caroline.
We hope you all have a lovely half term and see you all soon!

Well we cannot quite believe we are approaching half term!
For RE this week we enjoyed visiting St Peter’s Church for our WOW service. Caroline and Anne talked about how the church is a special place. The children always love visiting church and for the Reception class 2 more before we finish for the summer.
On Monday when we took part in Forest school in our outdoor area and replanted our sunflowers into our garden. We also talked about what we need to do to care for our plants and checked on the plants that have started blooming too. What great fun we had!
This week we have enjoyed learning all about ‘Ladybirds’. The children have enjoyed painting different types of Ladybirds, making ladybirds out of playdough and also trying to find them in our outside area. The children learnt that Ladybirds lay their eggs in clusters or rows on the underside of a leaf, so also spent time looking under the leaves to see if they could find any ladybird eggs.
We are also very excited about the bird’s nest in the outdoor area and have been thinking about different ways we can help the mummy bird. The children decided they would like to leave water for the bird over half term so she can have a little drink if she needs it. Keep checking on Twitter as we will keep you updated when the eggs hatch.
We wish you all a lovely weekend and a fabulous half term!

The end of term is upon us, our spirits are high and we have lots of reasons to feel proud of ourselves this term.
To reflect on our Collective Worship value of courage this term, we considered all the times we have been courageous by facing your fears and showing strength in the face of adversity. We recognised how courage refers not only to physical courage but also to moral or emotional courage. As a class, we decided that our favourite courageous moment this term was our efforts to face our fears and enter the Bat Cave at Chester Zoo!
Our Maths lessons have focused on supporting our ability to recall the times tables up to the x12 times tables. With a specific focus on the 6 and 8 times tables, we used times tables wheels to fill in the gaps to show the answer to a given times table, we performed raps and songs that left us singing the same song all day long and even recapped our calculation methods with chalk on the playground. We understand how tricky it can be to answer a given multiplication question so quickly, but we know if we keep working hard on all the tips and tricks we have been practising, we will be confident in recalling times tables quicker and quicker each day.
It was a joy to revisit some of our English books from Year 2 and look back at a piece of poetry we wrote inspired by the Matilda Musical song ‘When I grow up’. From Lamborghinis to flying off to space, our dreams had no limits! We adopted our poems from two years ago and changed the verses to include a more up to date focus on our future hopes and dreams, consider the hopes we have for others too. We used a repetitive pattern and the phrase ‘so that I’ to add justification for our hopes and dreams. Our poems are definitely worthy to be read aloud on the West End Stage!
In Spanish, we learnt the Spanish words associated with the items we use daily in the classroom and the equipment we need to support our learning. We learnt how we can use the phrase ‘Tengo’ to mean ‘I have’ and add the Spanish word for the equipment in front of us to finish the phase to explain to someone the things we have in our pencil class. Our focus turned to considering whether to use ‘un’ or ‘una’ and how ‘mi’ should be used if we are talking about an item that is mine.
On Friday, must to our delight… we used Minecraft Education to complete a series of challenges that enabled us to develop our coding skills. In order to build our very own version of TSP using the software, we had to collaborate online to create digital content and create a 3D structure using the Minecraft tools.
To conclude the week, we spent time as a class making valuable memories and sharing our highlights from the term. It was also time to say goodbye to Miss Bradford and Miss Hadwin as we wish them well as they continue their teacher training.
Wishing you all a lovely half term break. We can’t wait to hear all about it on our first day back!
Reminders:
- Please ensure that children come to school with a water bottle each day, especially during these hotter days.
- Year 4 PE lessons will remain on Tuesday and Friday each week.
- Year 4 Multiplication Check Week 1 commencing Monday 5th June.

What an incredible term we have had together, roll on the next and final one of the year! I cannot beleive we only have 6 weeks left until Year 2!
In Maths, we finished our topic on Fractions and showed an excellent understanding in our recap session. We were able to put our understanding of halves and quarters to the test and apply it to both practical and written questions. Next term, we will explore Geometry in our first week back exploring position and direction.
In Phonics, Children were reassessed by myself, Miss Jones, and regrouped accordingly. As well as this we continued to prepare for the Phonics Screen Check focusing on embedding those last few sounds and reading longer words. Children will not get books for over half term, please refer to the additonal videos.
We finished off our Art topic on Henri Rosseau by focusing on his use of bright colours and obsession with animals by exploring some of his most popular pieces of Art. We soon learnt that Rosseau liked to hide animals in his art work hiding them in his landscapes by using vibrant coloured leaves as a disguise. We then used this understanding of his artwork, to create our own animal masks inspired by his colours and designs.
We finished off our topic on 'Farms', in Geography, and explored the different farms around us due to our enviorment.
On Thursday, we completed 'Computing Day'. This term, we focused on creating our own books and developed our understanding of uploading images/downloading images and how to add text to a document. As well as this, we loved learning about QR codes and how we can used them to download images and resources.
Finally, from all of us here in Year 1, we hope you all have a wonderful and restful half term and cannot wait to see you in a weeks time, ready for our final six weeks. Please see the Virtual Classroom attached for resources to support you further, should you wish.

In RE, we were very lucky this week to have the wonderful Reverand Gordon visit from St Peter's Church, he talked to the children about Baptism in the Christian faith and discussed why a vicar carries out the different parts of the service. After, he allowed some of the children to take part in a 'mini' baptism on two very special dolls.
In Maths, we have been finishing out topic on fractions and explored the differences between fractions and divsion. Next week, we will finish this topic and will recap this topic accordingly.
We became artists again in this week and created our own natural landscape pictures based on our focus artist, Henri Rousseau. We discussed how landscape does not only mean turning the page but how it could also describe the background or scenery. We then compared this to our previous portrait work and identified similarites and differences.
In Geogrpahy, we explored map reading, and using clues we were able to explore maps of a farm and identifty the various features of the farm. It was a highly exciting activity which saw an incredible amount of team work!
You may also have noticed the installation of our Community Book Swap Box here at Trinity St. Peter's. This has been installed in memory of Margaret Blake, a past Governor here at TSP, who loved coming in to school and hearing children read. It is located on the wall (near the defibrillator) and the idea is for the whole community (adults and children) to use this book swap box so we can share our love for reading with all!

What a busy week!
After plenty of preparation, the time to sit our KS1 SATs had arrived! We could not be any prouder of all the children; they showed such positivity, resilience and optimism throughout the week. Despite coming in on Monday feeling nervous initally, those nerves were quickly gone! We realised they weren't as bad as we thought they were going to be and we used it as our time to shine.
Not only did we do our SATs, but we also had time to fit in our school photo, a race in PE, learning all about the human life cycle in Science and then even finished the week off with a movie and some ice pops!
Well done, everyone - you are all superstars! The Year 2 team couldn't be any prouder.
Have a lovely, well-deserved rest!
See you all on Monday!

What a fun week we have had in Nursery this week! It has been so lovely to see the children running around outside in the sunshine, giggling and having fun witih their friends.
This week our focus was ‘Planting and Growing’. The children learnt all about the importance of planting in the right way to make sure the vegetables and fruit grow as we would like them to. The children found out that plants have four specific needs being, space, sunlight, food and water. We had so much fun planting seeds that will turn into different fruit and vegetables. It was so lovely to see how involved the children were and how well they worked as a team. We cannot wait to watch them grow! Later in the week we learnt a song that helped us remember the planting and growing process. We sang along with the actions and all sounded amazing! Nursery then worked in small groups using cards to sequence the process. Well done everyone!
Outside, the children have started to notice lots of different insects; some that they haven't seen before. We got our magnifying glasses ready to go on a hunt to see what we could find. We had smiles and excitement all around!

Lots of subjects being taught this week - while still fitting in more post-SATs celebrations!
As computer scientists, we enjoyed some coding practice this week through our ‘Computing Day’. On Monday, we explored the game, Crossy Roads, thinking carefully about its features and what makes it a good game. We were then introduced to the iOs app, Hopscotch to allow us to explore some of our STAR vocabulary: event, command, loop, random and range. Following this, we had apply our knowledge by using the app to create our own version of Crossy Roads. All the children were able to do this successfully, with some even managing to set various levels of difficulty and additional levels fo their game!
As mathematicians, we embarked on a rather exciting venture…designing a theme park! Throughout the week, the children had to work together in small groups to design the layout of their park based on the costings of amenities and ride types and ensuring they meet all health and safety requirements, such as including the minimum number of toilets and park benches required. They also had to apply their mathematical knowledge by calculating the running and advertising costs and – from there – deciding on entrance admission fees to ensure they make a profit!
Towards the end of the week, the children presented their ideas, including posters and trailers, and were assessed on their creativity, likelihood of success and business acumen. The children have absolutely LOVED this project and it has been a joy to see them so enthusiastic about completing each task – whilst learning new vocabulary such as ‘marketing’, ‘revenue’, ‘expenditure’ and ‘profit’!
In History, we have commenced our new topic on ‘Crime and Punishment’, exploring broad trends from the Roman period to society today. Although our original goals this week were to learn about some common trends and have time to independently research crime and punishment from our chosen period, our first lesson involved us discussing crimes we are aware of today and methods of crime prevention, which then actually led to more of a PSHE lesson on how we should stay safe in the community. All the children and staff were very open in sharing experiences and knowledge and we feel it was definitely a worthwhile discussion!
Elsewhere, we have continued with our Spanish lessons, this week combining our previous topics of ‘sport’ and ‘clothing’ to learn how to explain the clothing of different athletes! In PE on Thursday, we had a carousel of ‘tri golf’ activities, kindly set up for us by our Y6 Sports Leaders.
Finally, on Friday, we had our second post-SATs celebration in school! This time, the children came into school in their own clothes to be greeted with large ‘2022’ balloons, treats and music before being informed that an inflatable obstacle course had indeed arrived on the school field and they had exclusive access to it all day! We had a wonderful time as a whole Year 6 team.

A special ‘well done’ to our boys’ football team, who competed in a very tough match against St Luke’s Primary School. Mr McCabe was very impressed with the positive attitude and skill on display!
Have a fantastic weekend!

A brilliantly busy week in the Year 5 classroom! Here are just some of our highlights…
Our Ancient Greece focus led to an exciting (and challenging) Art lesson in which we learned about how sculpture was very popular in ancient Greece and lots of sculptures and statues still survive today. These sculptures tell us a lot about life in ancient Greece and the people who lived there. After exploring lots of different examples, we then replicated one of the structures by carving into soap. Great care and attention was taken by the children as they knew that, rather than adding features such as noses and eyes, they had to consider how to carve away the soap to reveal them. Perhaps some future sculptors in the making!
In RE, we continued our focus on Women in the Old Testament as we delved into the life of Jochebed (Moses’ mother). The children considered the reasons why Moses’ mother put him in a basket to float down the river and the significance and the impact of her doing so. A great deal of deeper thinking was employed as the children used green thinking hats to empathise with Jochebed and relate to the decision that she felt she had to make given the circumstances.
In Maths, we have continued to work on our understanding of fractions and applying this to multiplying whole numbers, mixed numbers and improper fractions. Next week, we will begin our geometry/shape focus as we move onto identifying regular and irregular polygons and also exploring the properties of 3D shapes in lots of practical lessons!
Our week ended with our Computing day which was focused on the world of AR (Augmented Reality). Alongside this, we also explored how to read and create our own QR codes too which would be essential within our final projects. A fun QR code hunt around the school helped us to take this even further! Later, after exploring a variety of apps and websites that use AR, we were given the challenge of designing our own games that use AR. We look forward to creating the final versions of our games next week!
