Another busy week full of learning and having fun in Year 3!
We started our week by designing our very own ‘paper chain family’ for World Mental Health Day in support of the "Hello Yellow" campaign. The ‘paper chain people’ were a reminder to celebrate how unique and special our TSP children are.
In RE this week, we have thought about questions we would ask someone who has been ‘Called by God”. The children came up with fantastic questions and we look forward to getting the chance to put these to them in person after half term.
Our Art lesson was blooming wonderful this week as we got a chance to draw a variety of real flowers. Using our observational skills to first draw small segments of the flower before drawing our beautiful botanical bouquets. We also took the time to identify and describe the functions of different parts of flowering plants.
In science, we looked at animal skeletons. As scientists we asked the question; Do all animals have the same Skeleton? We discovered all animals have a skeleton: however, they don’t all look the same. We were able to group the animals into two different groups – Vertebrates or invertebrates. We also learnt that some animals do not have a skeleton inside their body, they have them on the outside. This is called the exoskeleton. Some animals have no skeleton at all! They have no bones so don’t have as much support or protection as other animals. A very interesting science lesson indeed!
For English, both groups have continued working on up-levelling their sentences. We planned and wrote a diary entry and a narrative using rich vocabulary, a range of conjunctions, prepositions, "a" and "an," and paragraphs. The children have also been sequencing and planning a well-known and using their plans to retell a story in their own words using paragraphs, inverted commas, prepositions, and interesting adjectives.
Today, the children dressed in pyjamas in support of the Alder Hey Children's Hospital. We had a lovely discussion about the incredible work that all the staff at Alder Hey Hospital do every day to help poorly children and their families. Our children are so compassionate and caring and spent the rest of the day asking further questions about how they could further help Alder Hey Childrens Hospital.
Thank you for another wonderful week Year 3!

Well done Nursery what a fabulous half term we have had. Lots of fun, laughter and friendships made.
On Wednesday the children attended the final WOW service of the half term, Caroline talked to the children about creation and looking after God's animals as we move through the seasons to winter time. Thank you, Anne and Caroline we will see, you after half term.
On Monday the children enjoyed another Forest school session. They took their seats and recapped on our Forest School rules. Then using the story of ‘It was a cod Dark Night’ by Tim Hopgood as a stimulus, the children were given a small ball of Mud Dough and asked to collect natural resources such as leaves and small sticks to create their own Hedgehog, they looked fabulous.
The children then continued to explore the story more in the classroom, we talked about Hibernation and how many animals are collecting food and making homes for a big winter sleep. We also discussed different nocturnal animals such as bats and Owls.
After half term our PE day will continue to be on a Tuesday, please can your child wear trainers on this day.
Please see or updated virtual classroom attached to this blog if you would like to explore any of the themes we will be exploring after the half term.
We hope you have a fabulous half term.

What an incredible week we have had, who can believe that next week is the final week of half term?!
In Maths, we used out tens-frames and Rekenrek to recognise number bonds to 10 and 20 and their related subtraction facts. Next week, we will focus on adding 1-digit numbers and adding by making 10 first.
In Science, we used some of our own pictures to make the life cycle of humans. We identified the different stages, labelling them, and describing what happens, or what support, we need at different stages.
In PE, we have continued with our dance lessons, with the wonderful, Mrs Whitehead, from Formby High. We have loved learning a dance to the Lion King music. We also had a fantastic speed stacking session, a lesson we loved in Year 1!
In Geography, we looked at different animals from around the world, and how they are adapted for the various climates and conditions.
We had a great day we have celebrating Hello Yellow Day in support of mental health awareness. To acknowledge the day, we designed a very special mini-me, to show the special connection we have as a class and the TSP Family we are so proud to be a part of.
We ended our week on a high, wearing our pyjamas to school in recognition of, and to raise money for, the wonderful team at Alder Hey children’s hospital. We had a fantastic array of pyjamas, from lemurs to unicorns. A truly fantastic way to end the week!

We have had a fantastic week in Year 1. It has been filled with so much fun and excitement.
We started the week with a very exciting visitor, we were lucky enough to have a current NHS nurse come to answer our questions on how nursing has changed over the years. We were so enthusiastic when asking questions, and were eager to share all of our knowledge on Florence Nightingale, she was blown away! We told her how grateful we are for the fantastic work nurses do, as she helped us understand her daily roles and routines when caring for people. We were so inspired by her kindness, lots of us hope to be nurses when we grow up!
In Maths this week we began our new topic on part whole models. We enjoyed using practical resources to explore the structure of a part whole model, we had some great mathematicians sharing their number fact knowledge. We then consolidated our new learning by putting our practical models into number sentences.
In Music this week we had so much fun finding the pulse, as we used different senses to find and keep a steady pulse. We discussed how the pulse is the heartbeat of the music, and used the sound of our hearts to help us replicate a steady beat. We have some brilliant musicians in Year 1!
We celebrated Hello Yellow Day this week, as we created our very own class paper chain. We joined each individual together to represent how we are all connected by the special bond we have as TSP family.
This week we especially enjoyed a day in our PJs as we took part in Alder Hey PJ day! We loved taking part in activities to mark this special day. We feel very lucky to be a part of such a fantastic school family.

Date: 12th Oct 2023 @ 8:01am

This week in RE we looked at different countries on the globe and learnt about how the Harvest festival is celebrated across the world. We discussed similarities and differences in other events that we celebrate for example we have turkey at Christmas in America they have it at ‘Thanksgiving’. The children learnt that in Thailand they use fruit from the harvest to make pictures with and enjoyed making their own pictures using different fruits.
On Monday we celebrated ‘Hello Yellow’ day for mental health awareness. We read a story called ‘Simon sock’ and talked about how we are all unique in our own special way. We then created a ‘TSP family paper chain’ to show that we are one big family that look out for one another.
On Wednesday we had our first Forest school session. The children sensibly walked over to the fire circle and we all sat together and talked about the rules. The children the all had a go at leaving the fire circle safely and swapping places with their friend. We then played a game of ‘1,2,3, where are you?’. What fun we have had!
In maths this week we have been looking at repeating patterns. The children have enjoyed making repeating patterns out of autumn treasures that we found at forest school. We then made our own patterns out of different objects that we could find in the classroom. Well done everyone.
We all arrived to school on Friday in our Pyjamas to raise money for Alder Hey. Throughout the day the children enjoyed listening to stories with their friends and playing games.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and see you all next week.

Yet another brilliant week with so much learning and lots of highlights throughout! Here are just a few…
On Thursday, it was La Fiesta Nacional de España (Spanish National Day)! We marked the day by focusing on the many and varied areas of Spanish lifestyle and culture. ¡Muy bien!
In RE, we continued our focus on the Bible as we used this lesson to explore Christianity as a living faith through the inspiring story of Desmond Doss. Desmond Doss was a Christian combat medic who was awarded the congressional medal of honour for saving the lives of 75 men. He was a conscientious objector who never carried a gun. He is also the subject of the film, ‘Hacksaw Ridge’. First, we completed a circle thinking map using only picture clues to infer what we could about Desmond. Then we further learned about his life and his honourable actions that all came about because he fervently stood by his beliefs. This helped us to really explore Christianity as a “living faith” and to unpick our key question, ‘how can belief affect people’s actions?’.
We have now reached the end of the gripping tale that we have been reading over the last few weeks in our English sessions: ‘The Queen of the Falls’. This picturebook is based on the fascinating tale of Annie Edson Taylor, a “daredevil” from the 1900s who dreamed of fame and fortune and became the first person to survive a trip over Niagara Falls…whilst inside a barrel! You could hear a pin drop whenever we read this story in class and the children were hanging onto every word. Although many predicted that Annie would be successful in her plight, this made what followed all the more shocking. The tumultuous ending in the aftermath of Annie’s feat led to many dropped jaws and shocked faces. Following this, we took part in a debate where the children considered the critical question: ‘Was Annie’s barrel feat a success?’ This led to a most impassioned and enthusiastic debate that was an absolute pleasure to be a part of. Next week, the children will write their final pieces within their author books, which is a diary entry based upon Annie’s incredible journey.
In our Maths lessons, we have focused on multiplying and dividing decimals by 10, 100 and 1000. Next week, we will move onto inverse operations and solving addition and subtraction word problems.
Wishing you all an enjoyable weekend before the final school week of this half term next week!
Reminders:
-Spellings continue to be uploaded onto Google Classroom each Friday and are tested the following Friday in class.
-Homework is also set for English and Maths via ‘Mirodo’ and is set each Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday.

Another great week in Year 6!
In Maths, Mr King’s group concluded their rounding topic before revisiting Roman Numerals. Next week, we will be moving onto decimal work and then long multiplication and long division. In Mrs Martin’s group, the children have consolidated last week's learning and also moved onto problem solving involving column addition and subtraction. Next week, they will be moving onto long multiplication as well.
On Tuesday, we celebrated Hello Yellow Day. We discussed the purpose of the day and reminded ourselves that the term, ‘mental health’ isn’t a negative concept; we can have positive mental health and negative mental health. We listed ways in which we can help improve our mood and also discussed things we may do that actually won’t help make us feel better. We also talked about things in school that may cause us anxiety, such as being told to get into pairs. We tried to unpick some of these insecurities and shared ideas as a class for how to alleviate these worries.
In PE, we developed our stamina and long-distance running techniques on Tuesday by taking part in a 15m ‘Beep Test’. This was a good opportunity for the children to develop strategies while also providing opportunities for discussions on mindset and setting personal challenges. It was lovely to see that many of the children said they actually enjoyed the test and would like to try and improve on their results next week! Following on from ‘Hello Yellow’, we also had a session with Relax Kids as part of Thursday’s PE lesson.
A huge ‘congratulations’ to our UKS2 football team, who competed in the Formby Schools Tournament this week. They played brilliantly and were excellent role models for the school - we cannot wait to see how you perform in future matches and tournaments!
The children are aware of how to access their homework for next week – either on SATs Companion or in their books. Spellings have also been set. If your child is accessing their homework through SATs Companion and needs additional support, please remind them to watch the video input first. They can also revise any topics through the ‘Practice’ section of the app / website afterwards.
Have a good weekend, everyone!

The rain definitely hasn’t dampened our spirits this week!
Taking on the role of David, we defeated Goliath in our RE lesson. With tennis balls at the ready, we took aim at our Goliath targets and shouted out the Christian values that David displayed when defeating Goliath. When thinking about our Collective Worship value of Thankfulness, this week, we decided to spot values in our friends that we are so thankful to be able to share with them, such as kindness, caring, nurturing and happiness.
After finishing the story ‘Gorilla’ and finding out about the change of events in Hannah’s life following the gorilla’s visit, we set to the task of dividing the story into its opening, build up, problem, resolution and ending. Using copies of the pages of the book, we divided the story up and then summarised the events within each of a story map groups. This helped us to create a story plan of the Gorilla story, which we then edited to put our own twist on the original story. Even though the main events of our stories remained the same as the original book, our character ideas and settings changed to create our own twist on this much loved classic. Next week, we will write our own versions of the Gorilla story, using our plans to help structure our paragraphs and apply our understanding of fronted adverbials in our writing.
In Maths, we took the time to recap the steps of setting up the column addition model to support our addition calculations. We reminded ourselves of the importance of putting one digit in each box, to keep our place value columns clear. When adding, we considered if any exchanges needed to be made and hid any numbers needed to be ‘carried’ under the carpet we created by drawing two distinct lines under our calculation. Later in the week, we considered how we can connect our understanding to alter our method slightly, to support us with subtraction. Next week, we will use of column method to subtract two numbers where an exchange needs to take place, before thinking about how we count back into negative numbers.
We had a great day we have celebrating Hello Yellow Day in support of mental health awareness. To acknowledge the day, we designed a very special mini-me, to show the special connection we have as a class and the TSP Family we are so proud to be a part of.
Mrs McCardle from Sefton Music Services continues to be impressed with the amazing progress we are making in reading musical notes and the notes we can play on our recorder. When swimming, we are recapping the three main strokes over 10m and 25m, using our school value of hope to not give up on our strokes until we reach the very end of the pool.
The Year 4 virtual classroom can be found on Google Classroom but will also be attached to our blog this week and next, should your child wish to carry out any additional learning at home over half-term.

Gosh, we cannot believe how quickly this half term if flying by, the children have all settled well and we are incredibly proud of all of them
This week we have enjoyed a visit from Caroline for a Godly Play session. Caroline enjoyed talking to the children about ‘The Creation’, we discussed what we liked about the world and how important it is to look after it. We discussed one way we could help look after the world was to pick up litter and feed the birds during the winter time. Thank you, Caroline we love it, when you come to visit.
On Monday the children enjoyed another Forest school session with Mrs Bevin. They took their seats and recapped our Forest School rules. The children were asked to collect leaves from the floor and use these to make leaf towers. The children then discussed the different shape, sizes and colours of the leaf tower they had made!
The children have continued to explore their Autumn treasures and discuss the different items they have found. They have also enjoyed different autumnal activities such as leaf rubbing and learning a song all about Autumn leaves falling down. Many thanks to everyone for returning the bags of Autumn treasures as the children have really enjoyed this.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

What a wonderful week of learning Year 3 it has been!
In RE this week, we continued our journey on what it means to be ‘Called by God.’ The students watched a video of Jonah and the whale, and then we dissected the story together. We had a wonderful discussion about how Jonah must have felt being called on by God and why Jonah ran away from God. The children identified that the story was about forgiveness and that God’s love is for everyone, even those who make mistakes.
In Geography, we dove deeper into our ‘European Neighbours’ topic. Asking the question; What is the difference between a continent, a country, and a city? We looked at some European capital cities and the children enjoyed recognising key landmarks. The children then got a chance to work in teams, using the laptops to help them pinpoint with Play-Doh on our large world maps which capital city belonged to each country.
During English this week, the children continued to learn how to use inverted commas and make sensible choices for their reported clause following direct speech. For instance, they created choices such as ‘muttered,’ ‘responded and ‘exclaimed.’ We discussed when all of these would be appropriate for our writing, depending on how the character was speaking. As for the reading lessons in English, our focus was on the layout of a non-fiction text and answering retrieval questions. We looked at how the author chose to present her headings, subheadings, technical language, and diagrams in The Sea Book. We also used this book to retrieve answers to questions about the information presented.
We finalised our work with number and place value this week in maths as the children completed their number line work and counted in steps of 2s, 5s, 10s and/or 50s. Later in the week, we moved on to addition and subtraction learning goals. Our focus was on finding patterns in number sequences, adding 1s across a 10 and adding 10s across a 100. Next week, the learning will focus on subtracting 1s and 10s and adding and subtracting without exchanging.
In Art, we continued to understand how texture can be created and used to make art. Our Year 3 children created beautiful botanical pictures using the frottage technique that they had previously learnt.
For science, we look at how muscles have different jobs. They help to pump blood around the body, help you lift things and work our bones to help us move. We looked at our biceps and triceps and noticed how each one reacts differently as we bend our arm and straighten our arms.
Have a super weekend Year 3!
Date: 6th Oct 2023 @ 3:24pm
Well done on another fantastic week Year 1! We are so proud of how you are working hard and having fun.
We started the week thinking about the new month ahead. We discussed our favourite things about the Autumn season, and felt very excited about pumpkin picking, beautiful leaves falling from trees, conker hunting and Halloween costumes! In art this week we took inspiration from the month of October as we explored a variety of pumpkins. We created some brilliant pumpkin drawings, and were blown away by the talent in our classroom!
We had an exciting afternoon on Tuesday as we took part in a Martial Arts workshop, learning self defence skills. This was a new way to get us active. In PE this week we have focused on ball skills, by practicing our dribbling and rolling skills. We loved showing off our skills and working as a team to pass the ball.
In Maths this week we made our very own human number line. We ordered numbers 1 – 10, and moved objects up and down the number line using our knowledge of more and less. We began using Rekenreks to support our counting skills, as we learned how to create numbers within 10 and 20.
Well done on another great week Year 1. Have a lovely weekend!

Date: 5th Oct 2023 @ 8:07pm

A fantastic week races by in Year 5!
In RE, we continued to explore the Christian Bible with its many books and stories. We considered the word ‘sacred’ and its meaning and what it takes for an object to be thought of in this way. To do this, we thought of items that we hold dear and that are treasured within our own lives. We then connected our items to the sacred nature of the Bible by making comparisons and establishing differences.
In Art, we have explored space imagery and experimented with line drawing to achieve our desired effects. This required both creativity and patience in equal measure and the children were proud of their creations and enjoyed looking at each other’s work too.
In Maths, a particularly fun lesson challenged us as we learned how to count like a Mayan. We learned how the Maya numeral system was base-20 and made up of three symbols: zero (a shell), one (a dot) and five (a bar). We enjoyed applying our arithmetic skills to such questions and many of the Year 5 children certainly would not have been “counted out” of Mayan Civilisation culture!
In other Maths lessons, we have focused on multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000. Next week, we will extend this to include decimals as well as dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 too.
Following our discovery of the bonus chapters of ‘Wonder’ by RJ Palacio, we enjoyed reading this as a class and uncovering even more about Julian’s character and motive. As these chapters were not included in the original release of both the book and film, the children were desperate to find out what happened next…and it was worth the wait! Now it’s time to choose a new class novel, however we will most definitely take the lessons that Wonder has taught us forward into the rest of the school year. Most notably, ‘Choose Kind’ and ‘Choose Wisely’.
Wishing you all a brilliant weekend and see you on Monday!
Reminders:
-Spellings continue to be uploaded onto Google Classroom each Friday and are tested the following Friday in class.
-Homework is also set for English and Maths via ‘Mirodo’ and is set each Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday.

Another busy week in Year 6!
Having recovered from our residential at Robinwood, we began our first History topic last Friday, focusing on World War 1. Before being provided with knowledge from the teacher, the children had to make inferences and predictions about The Great War based on artefacts provided and genuine newspaper articles from that period. Once we had summarised our initial thoughts, we also questioned the reliability of newspapers and considered why the sample provided to us may not show us everyone’s perception of the war (e.g. British newspapers’ reporting may differ from Germany’s relaying of information). This week, we learned about ‘factors’ and ‘triggers’ and explored the widely acknowledged reasons for the start of World War 1, looking at the alliances and rivalries between countries and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
In Writing, we have started our first unit, which centres around the book, ‘Star of Fear, Star of Hope’ by Jo Hoestlandt. In this story, which is set in France during the Nazi occupation of World War II, a child named Helen recalls the mounting persecution of her Jewish friend. This week, the children read the initial few pages, learned about Hitler and his perception of the Jewish people, and wrote some short extracts that focused on particular grammar and punctuation objectives, such as using inverted commas. Over the course of this unit, the children will be looking at how to write newspaper articles, diary entries and recounts. We can’t wait to see their final piece when they put all their skills together!
As mathematicians, Mr King’s group has focused on rounding while Mrs Martin’s group has revisited multiplying and dividing by powers of 10. Next week, Mr King’s group will move onto ordering numbers and Roman Numerals while Mrs Martin’s group will move onto problem solving involving column addition and subtraction (e.g. missing digits in the calculation).
It has also been a very sporty week! Our dodgeball lessons have resumed and we were even treated to a martial arts session with Unite Formby. Many of the children have also been able to take part in Bikeability sessions throughout the week, practising their skills on the playground as well as the roads in the local area.
Please note that our brass lessons resumed on Friday afternoon. These sessions will now continue every Friday for the rest of term.

What a busy week we have had in Reception!
This week in RE the children enjoyed discussing their favourite fruit. We looked at the globe and found out where different fruits come from across the world. We then discussed how they get from across the world into our shops by plane or boat. We then enjoyed tasting some different fruits. Delicious!
On Thursday, we celebrated 'National Poetry day'. First the children enjoyed listening to a poem called ‘Autumn Days' by a poet called Brenda Williams. We then closed our eyes and imagened that we were outside on a windy autumn day and thought about what we might see and hear. We then made a list of Autumn words that rhyme and made our own class poem. Well done everyone!
This week the children have been learning about the Autumn season and together we read a story called ‘Little Gooses Autumn’ by Elli Woollard. We discussed that changes that we see outside in the Autumn and explored some Autumn treasures. The children then enjoyed making their own Autumn leaf collage and hedgehog paintings. Brilliant work everyone!
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and see you all next week.

Year 2 have been incredible this week and have shone in everything they have done.
In PE we continued to practice our dance, with the hope that we may be able to perform for our parents after half term, with Mrs Whitehead from Formby High School. We focused on developing out technique, pointing our toes and extending our hands discussing its importance. We are loving the music, which links carefully to our Science topics on ‘Animals including Humans’ and our Geography topic of countries around the world.
In RE we connected our learning back to last week and recapped the story of Mary Jones before learning about the Qumran Scrolls. We were shocked to hear how these stories were almost lost and how three lucky shepherds found them. We found it interesting to learn that in the past, scrolls were kept safe and dry in pots unlike today.
As always, we all continue our own journeys for Phonics and have been reading a variety of books in our groups. Our focus at the moment across the groups is letter formation.
We loved learning about the 3 times table in Maths, using the 100 square grid to help us identify patterns. After, we loved onto our new topic, Addition and Subtraction, recapping number bonds to 10 a topic we learnt in Year 1.
In Art, we used our tea towels from home, wool, and bubble wrap to make our very own felt. It certainly is a tricky process, but the final pieces were magnificent.
For Science, we were able to use some pictures from home to make investigate the human life cycle. We discussed how in class we have different family members at different stages as well as this, how we ourselves have been through many different stages already (the teachers more than us!)
From all of us here in Year 2, have a wonderful weekend.
Reminders
- PE days are Monday and Wednesdays each week.
- Parents Teacher Meetings are to be held on the 17th and 18th October and are designed to discuss how your child has settled into school.
Date: 3rd Oct 2023 @ 12:04pm
Year 4 have SHINED this week!
In RE, we unpicked the Christian values and our School values that we felt were most important for God to see in our hearts. From kindness to nurturing, we justified what values we felt others should show and those closest to our hearts. To remind ourselves of the importance of our Collective Worship value ‘Thankfulness’ we created a Thankfulness Tree. On one side of a leaf, we wrote down something we are thankful for. On the other, we thought about what we could do to show thankfulness even more.
Taking on the role of Hannah in the story ‘Gorilla’, this week we wrote diary entries to express to the reader the events leading up to Hannah’s birthday in the story. Our writing was full of fronted adverbials to specific when, where or how an event took place, and we used the first person to write as if we were Hannah. We also discovered that Macaroni makes the perfect speech marks, as we used the pasta to symbolise where speech marks should go in a sentence. Next week, we will begin to plan and write our own interpretation of the story, Gorilla. This story will include features of writing that we have focused on this term.
We revisited Roman Numerals to start the week in Maths, recapping the numeral for 1, 5, 10, 50 and 100. We were quick to discover that the sequence on numerals impacts on whether we add or take away a number. It was then time to show off our knowledge of rounding to 10, 100 and 1000, working hard to use a number line to support our thinking. We love using rhymes to help us remember facts in Year 4, why not ask us to perform the Roman Numerals song or even our handy rounding rhyme at home. Next week, we begin to look at adding and taking away numbers and the formal methods we can use to support our calculations.
What a fantastic afternoon we had with the incredible coaches from UNITE. They took us through a self defence session, reminding us of the importance of respect and how we can safely perform defensive moves. On Friday, we celebrated National Poetry Day with a poem in our pockets. As we transitioned through school or onto the playground, we took out our poem from our pocket and share it with an adult or peer to brighten up their day with some poetical words. We certainly had lots of sharing faces who were overjoyed to hear our poetry.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday, Year 4!
Reminders:
- Year 4 PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Please ensure your child arrives to school wearing their PE kit on these days.
- As the colder weather sets in, please ensure your child brings a coat to school for break times.
- Parent-Teacher Meetings go live on Monday. Your allocated appointment is to be made with the teacher who predominantly teaches your child for Maths and English. If you would like to request an additional meeting with the other teacher, please email the Y4 account to arrange this.

Phew what a very busy week we have had! Nursery you are superstars
This week we have enjoyed learning a little more about our school values and meeting our special characters that help us to remember them. The children understand that we wear our uniform to show we belong to Trinity St Peter’s family, including our churches Holy Trinity and St Peter’s. The children loved hearing about Buddy, Leo, Meta, Cuddles and Mo and are able to talk about them and what they represent in relation to the school star. Well done Nursery!
The children have also continued to learn about Harvest and enjoyed the story of ‘Farmer Duck’. They have enjoyed acting out the story with their friends and discussing how important the job of a farmer is.
In small groups, the children have enjoyed making ‘hedgehog bread’ with Grayson. They took turns to measure out the ingredients, mix it up and then kneaded the bread into their hedgehog shape. Once the dough was in shape, they made cuts with scissors for the spikes and added two raisins. We hope you have enjoyed eating the bread at home!
We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Where has this half term gone, four weeks down three to go!
On Tuesday, we were delighted by the arrival of the ‘Big Top Circus’. We loved watching the tent being erected and discussed what exciting treasures and people might have been hiding inside! The feedback from those that attended, was that the show was magnificent and that the treats were delicious!
In Maths, we finished off our topic, Place Value by focusing on identifying numbers on a number line to 100. After, using the language and associated symbols, children compared numbers stating if they were ‘less than’, ‘greater than’ and equal to each other. Next week, we will develop our understanding if the 2s,5s, 10s- and 3-times table before moving onto Addition and Subtraction.
In RE we reflected on the importance of the Bible again and revisited a range of stories from the Bible. After, we listened to the story of Mary Jones, an extraordinary little girl who changed History by enabling more people, from all backgrounds, to have access to the Bible.
In Geography, we recapped the 7 continents and 5 oceans before discussing how the world has an equator, and how that affects the countries around it!
In PE, we continued to develop our ball skills, this time practicing our dribbling. We carefully focused on moving the ball with our feet, with little controlled passes, before stopping the ball quickly and accurately. On Wednesday, we were fortunate to have a dance lesson from Formby High School, using the soundtrack from the Lion King. Over the next few weeks, we will continue to develop this dance, with the hope that the children will feel confident to perform in front of their parents.
We were fortunate enough to attend the Year 5 Harvest assembly on Friday at St Peter’s Church in support of Southport Foodbank. The Year 5 children were incredible and should be very proud.

It has been another fun and productive week in Year 3!
We began the week on a high as we got to experience the construction of the Big Top Circus Tent. With lots of cheering and whooping as the enormous tent went up, it was fantastic to watch. On Tuesday the main circus event itself was spectacular with trapeze artists, jugglers and a fire show.
In RE, we continued learning about what it means to be 'called by God.' Everyone enjoyed watching a video clip and learning about the story of ‘Moses and the Burning Bush.’ We brainstormed as a class how it would feel to be ‘called by God.’ The children were then able to recall the key information from the Bible story. Next week we will be looking at the prophet Jonah and creating a memory board to help retell this Bible story.
In our English lessons, Year 3 have been learning how to use a richer vocabulary and how to draw inferences about characters feelings, thoughts and motives. We also introduced the use of inverted commas to punctuate direct speech. Next week, we will be asking questions to improve our understanding of texts and continue to draw inferences from characters' actions and speech.
During maths, the students have been practising flexible partitioning as we approach the end of our place value unit. We are going to finish our last lessons for this unit which will include number line work and estimation. We will move onto addition and subtraction lessons. Our first few sessions will address adding and subtracting ones, tens and hundreds; any extra practice you can complete at home with this topic will be helpful to our work in class.
In Science this week, the students really enjoyed planning and carrying out an investigation based on our key inquiry question; Do bones affect what we can do? The children had a choice of two questions to investigate with a small group. Do people with longer legs jump further? Or, do people with longer arms throw further? The students completed the investigation planning sheet and then completed the investigation as they had planned and recorded their results. Stay tuned for the results!
We are continuing our study of ‘Our European Neighbours’ in geography. This week, the children looked at identifying European countries according to their features. Looking closely at languages, flags and currency to be able to identify the correct European country. Next week, we will be exploring the major capital cities of Europe. If any of you have been to any capital cities within Europe and have any photographs then please send them in to enhance our discussion in our next geography lesson.
On Friday, we went to St Peter’s Church for a Harvest service led by the Year 5 students. We supported Southport Foodbank with our donations and joined Year 5 by singing hymns and offering our gratitude to God, our family and our friends for the things that we are grateful for.
Have a fantastic and restful weekend!

Another busy week which also included a Harvest Service and a circus!
In our RE work, we continued to explore the Bible. Using the 66 books that make up the greatest story ever told, we created some Bible word art. Our “wordles” demonstrated our ever-growing knowledge of the Bible in a creative and eye-catching format.
One of the main highlights of the week was the experience of the Big Top Circus Tent on the school field. We enjoyed watching the set up of the circus throughout the school day on Tuesday, and of course the incredible stalls, fire show and main circus event after school. Thank you to Team TSP for organising it all.
In this week’s Maths lessons, we have focused on negative numbers. Next week’s lessons will move onto multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimals by 10, 100 and 1000.
It was a particularly proud moment to end our school week as Year 5 led the Harvest Service at St. Peter’s Church. We were blown away by the children’s courage and confidence through beautiful readings, prayers and a dramatic retelling of a well-known Bible story, ‘Feeding the 5000’. Through this service, we thanked God for the creation of the world and reminded our school community about the importance of helping others in need, particularly through such vital causes as Southport Foodbank. Well done, Year 5!

On Tuesday, the children were very excited to watch the circus arrive at Trinity St Peter’s. What an amazing circus this was! Thank you so much to Team TSP for organising this fantastic event.
On Wednesday, Reception went to their first ‘WOW’ service of the year. We were celebrating the festival of Harvest and three of the children stood at the front to say a prayer. We were so proud of how amazing you were! The children then sang two songs in front of their friends and family in church. Thank you for the all generous donations that will be going to the foodbank. Thank you to Anne and Caroline for a lovely service. On Thursday Caroline came to speak to the children about gifts and talents and the children were able to talk about what they are good at. We talked about how Jesus asks us to use our talents to help others. Thank you so much for out Godly play session.
After reading a story called ‘Oliver’s vegetables’, Reception discovered a basket of vegetables in the classroom. We looked at the vegetables and talked about how they looked and felt. The children talked about what their favourite vegetable is. The children then looked at the basket of vegetables and had a go at observational paintings with watercolours.
In Maths the children have been learning how to sort items. The children discovered a washing line with different socks hanging from it. We had to work together to find the matching sock to make a pair. We thought about what was different about the socks and what was the same. We then had a go at sorting buttons depending to their size, shape or colour. Reception you have been amazing.
On Thursday we enjoyed taking part in an Afternoon tea performance with our Year 6 buddies. The children thoroughly enjoyed performing a song with their Year 6 friends. We hope you all enjoyed having the chance to meet your child’s year 6 buddy.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and see you all next week.
Miss Dalley and the Reception team.

What an exciting week Year 1 have had!
In Maths, we have continued our topic on Place Value, focusing on less than and greater than. We have used a variety of manipulatives to support our learning, some of our favourites are ten frames, counters and large cubes. We have enjoyed lots of practical activities this week, using our number bond knowledge to create and order numbers within 10.
We have had another fantastic History lesson this week, learning more about nurses. We explored the fascinating life of Mary Seacole, where we discovered how she helped the soldiers in Crimea just like Florence Nightingale! Together as a class we compared the two nurses, discussing their similarities and differences. We discovered that they both helped care for soldiers in the Crimea, and they both changed how nursing was perceived. We also realised that they had a lot of differences, as Mary Seacole was soon forgotten after the war ended, whereas Florence Nightingale was remembered as a hero. Year 1 reflected on this by commenting that the way Mary Seacole was treated was unfair, as she was just as deserving and worked just as hard.

Another busy week - despite some of us still recovering from our Robinwood residential!
As authors, we commenced our writing journey in Year 6 by writing a short recount from Robinwood. We imagined being back in Wrexham and how we felt as we approached our own biggest challenge there. Using a range of clauses, punctuation and vocabulary, we then created some excellent pieces of work, which the children should be very proud of. If this is what the children are already producing already, we can’t wait to see what they are creating by the end of the year!
Thursday was an extra special day as the children co-hosted an ‘afternoon tea’ for Reception parents, alongside their buddies. As always, it was so lovely to see the Year 6 children supporting their younger peers - especially during their musical performance, which was a rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story. We were also particularly impressed with our Year 6 pupils when they introduced their buddies and shared several facts about them with the parents. Our children spoke confidently and projected their voices clearly. Well done, Year 6!
On Friday, we attended our Harvest assembly, led by our fantastic Year 5 class at St. Peter’s Church. As well as enjoying the readings and drama performed by Year 5 pupils, we had been waiting to show off our singing and dance skills as we performed ‘Beautiful World’ and our favourite, ‘Harvest Samba’! We were blown away by the children’s confidence and enthusiasm during singing rehearsals – this bodes well for our leavers’ performances at the end of the year! In addition to our singing lessons, our brass lessons will resume from next Friday afternoon.
Of course, one of the main highlights of the week was the experience of the Big Top Circus Tent on the school field. It was great to watch it being set up during the school day on Tuesday, and of course the incredible stalls, fire show and main circus event after school. Thank you to Team TSP for organising it all.
Homework has now commenced and will be due in on Wednesday. In Mr King’s group, Maths and SPaG tasks will be set on SATs Companion unless stated otherwise. The children have been introduced to the website / iOs application this week and are aware of how to access their homework tasks (as well as video tutorials provided for additional support). A guide for parents on how to use SATs Companion has been attached to this blog. Your child’s username is their full name with no spaces and their password is the same as their Sumdog password, which can be found on Google Classroom. Please email Mr King (y6@tsp.sefton.school) if there are any problems. There are many other useful features on the site, including a ‘Practice’ section, where the children can access videos and lessons on all KS2 objectives for Maths, Reading and Writing at any time. Please do encourage the children to use this section at home to support them with their ongoing learning in these areas.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

What a wonderful week here in Year 4, filled with so many exciting learning opportunities and not to forget …. A CIRCUS!
In RE, we read about how God chose David to be the new king, after Saul let God down. We learn that God rejected him, because he does not judge as people judge. People look at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart. We comprehended what God saw in David’s heart and recognised that lots of our school values were values that David held.
In English, we took a moment to pause and reflect on some of our misconceptions, to help us improve our writing. Using our creativity, we make tricks and tips to help us remember whether to use their, there or they’re and also revised when and why an apostrophe is needed. Looking back at our story ‘Gorilla’ to revisit the pages we have read so far, we used a Flow Map to outline the main events that have took place in the story. We then began to plan a diary entry for each of the main events, using expanded noun phrases to add detail and fronted adverbials to inform the reader of when the events took place. Next week, we will be learning the rules for adding speech into our writing and ensuring every sentence we right have the correct punctuation.
After researching the mountains in the UK, we ordered their heights to demonstrate our ability to order numbers to 10,000. We also used our knowledge of greater than and less than, to compare different numbers whether they were shown pictorially or in written words or numbers. We encountered a Roman in our Maths lesson this week, who helped us to march around the classroom reciting Roman numerals and we even learnt a song along the way to help us remember them! Next week, we will recap rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 before moving onto formal methods of adding numbers.
On Friday, we attended our Harvest assembly, led by our fantastic Year 5 class at St. Peter’s Church. We supported Southport Foodbank with our donations, accompanied Year 5 by singing some beautiful hymns and took the time to show gratitude to God and those around us for the things we are grateful for.
Of course, the highlight of the week was experiencing the construction of the Big Top Circus Tent on our very own school field. We were thrilled to cheer across the field as the tent was erected and experience the hustle and bustle of the set up. Not to forget the incredible stalls, fire show and main Circus event we were giving the opportunity to attend after school.
A busy week, Year 4! Rest those happy feet ready for Monday.
Reminders:
- Spellings continue to be uploaded onto Google Classroom every Friday at 3pm and are tested the following Thursday in class.
- PE continues to take place on a Tuesday and Swimming every Wednesday.

Well done Nursery, what a super week we have had!!
This week we had our very first ‘WOW’ service, this week, which was all about Harvest. The service was led by Anne and Caroline. The children enjoyed singing and doing the actions for ‘Old McDonald had and farm and Dingle Dangle Scarecrow’, Nursery your singing was fantastic. We were also treated to a visit from Caroline for our first Godly play of the year, Caroline talked to the children all about their ‘Gifts and Talents’, thank you Caroline we love it when you visit us in school
On Monday the children visited the Forest school site behind the church in the grounds of St Peter’s Church. They took their seats in the ‘Fire Circle’ and talked about the different rules and routines. The children learnt how to leave the fire circle safely and move around it without walking across the fire. They also took part in a game called 1,2,3 where are you. Maybe you could play this game at home?
The children began the week by finding the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’, they enjoyed listening to this and then through the week the children have acted out the story in our role-play area. The children were excited to discover that on Friday the Little Red Hen left them a variety of different bread to taste with honey and jam. The children enjoyed this tasty treat as a snack and wanted more!!!!!!! We have also enjoyed looking at different types of vegetables and using these to print with to create brilliant pictures.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.
