What a wonderful week of learning Year 3 it has been!
In RE this week, we continued our journey on what it means to be ‘Called by God.’ The students watched a video of Jonah and the whale, and then we dissected the story together. We had a wonderful discussion about how Jonah must have felt being called on by God and why Jonah ran away from God. The children identified that the story was about forgiveness and that God’s love is for everyone, even those who make mistakes.
In Geography, we dove deeper into our ‘European Neighbours’ topic. Asking the question; What is the difference between a continent, a country, and a city? We looked at some European capital cities and the children enjoyed recognising key landmarks. The children then got a chance to work in teams, using the laptops to help them pinpoint with Play-Doh on our large world maps which capital city belonged to each country.
During English this week, the children continued to learn how to use inverted commas and make sensible choices for their reported clause following direct speech. For instance, they created choices such as ‘muttered,’ ‘responded and ‘exclaimed.’ We discussed when all of these would be appropriate for our writing, depending on how the character was speaking. As for the reading lessons in English, our focus was on the layout of a non-fiction text and answering retrieval questions. We looked at how the author chose to present her headings, subheadings, technical language, and diagrams in The Sea Book. We also used this book to retrieve answers to questions about the information presented.
We finalised our work with number and place value this week in maths as the children completed their number line work and counted in steps of 2s, 5s, 10s and/or 50s. Later in the week, we moved on to addition and subtraction learning goals. Our focus was on finding patterns in number sequences, adding 1s across a 10 and adding 10s across a 100. Next week, the learning will focus on subtracting 1s and 10s and adding and subtracting without exchanging.
In Art, we continued to understand how texture can be created and used to make art. Our Year 3 children created beautiful botanical pictures using the frottage technique that they had previously learnt.
For science, we look at how muscles have different jobs. They help to pump blood around the body, help you lift things and work our bones to help us move. We looked at our biceps and triceps and noticed how each one reacts differently as we bend our arm and straighten our arms.
Have a super weekend Year 3!

Well done on another fantastic week Year 1! We are so proud of how you are working hard and having fun.
We started the week thinking about the new month ahead. We discussed our favourite things about the Autumn season, and felt very excited about pumpkin picking, beautiful leaves falling from trees, conker hunting and Halloween costumes! In art this week we took inspiration from the month of October as we explored a variety of pumpkins. We created some brilliant pumpkin drawings, and were blown away by the talent in our classroom!
We had an exciting afternoon on Tuesday as we took part in a Martial Arts workshop, learning self defence skills. This was a new way to get us active. In PE this week we have focused on ball skills, by practicing our dribbling and rolling skills. We loved showing off our skills and working as a team to pass the ball.
In Maths this week we made our very own human number line. We ordered numbers 1 – 10, and moved objects up and down the number line using our knowledge of more and less. We began using Rekenreks to support our counting skills, as we learned how to create numbers within 10 and 20.
Well done on another great week Year 1. Have a lovely weekend!

A fantastic week races by in Year 5!
In RE, we continued to explore the Christian Bible with its many books and stories. We considered the word ‘sacred’ and its meaning and what it takes for an object to be thought of in this way. To do this, we thought of items that we hold dear and that are treasured within our own lives. We then connected our items to the sacred nature of the Bible by making comparisons and establishing differences.
In Art, we have explored space imagery and experimented with line drawing to achieve our desired effects. This required both creativity and patience in equal measure and the children were proud of their creations and enjoyed looking at each other’s work too.
In Maths, a particularly fun lesson challenged us as we learned how to count like a Mayan. We learned how the Maya numeral system was base-20 and made up of three symbols: zero (a shell), one (a dot) and five (a bar). We enjoyed applying our arithmetic skills to such questions and many of the Year 5 children certainly would not have been “counted out” of Mayan Civilisation culture!
In other Maths lessons, we have focused on multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000. Next week, we will extend this to include decimals as well as dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 too.
Following our discovery of the bonus chapters of ‘Wonder’ by RJ Palacio, we enjoyed reading this as a class and uncovering even more about Julian’s character and motive. As these chapters were not included in the original release of both the book and film, the children were desperate to find out what happened next…and it was worth the wait! Now it’s time to choose a new class novel, however we will most definitely take the lessons that Wonder has taught us forward into the rest of the school year. Most notably, ‘Choose Kind’ and ‘Choose Wisely’.
Wishing you all a brilliant weekend and see you on Monday!
Reminders:
-Spellings continue to be uploaded onto Google Classroom each Friday and are tested the following Friday in class.
-Homework is also set for English and Maths via ‘Mirodo’ and is set each Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday.

Another busy week in Year 6!
Having recovered from our residential at Robinwood, we began our first History topic last Friday, focusing on World War 1. Before being provided with knowledge from the teacher, the children had to make inferences and predictions about The Great War based on artefacts provided and genuine newspaper articles from that period. Once we had summarised our initial thoughts, we also questioned the reliability of newspapers and considered why the sample provided to us may not show us everyone’s perception of the war (e.g. British newspapers’ reporting may differ from Germany’s relaying of information). This week, we learned about ‘factors’ and ‘triggers’ and explored the widely acknowledged reasons for the start of World War 1, looking at the alliances and rivalries between countries and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
In Writing, we have started our first unit, which centres around the book, ‘Star of Fear, Star of Hope’ by Jo Hoestlandt. In this story, which is set in France during the Nazi occupation of World War II, a child named Helen recalls the mounting persecution of her Jewish friend. This week, the children read the initial few pages, learned about Hitler and his perception of the Jewish people, and wrote some short extracts that focused on particular grammar and punctuation objectives, such as using inverted commas. Over the course of this unit, the children will be looking at how to write newspaper articles, diary entries and recounts. We can’t wait to see their final piece when they put all their skills together!
As mathematicians, Mr King’s group has focused on rounding while Mrs Martin’s group has revisited multiplying and dividing by powers of 10. Next week, Mr King’s group will move onto ordering numbers and Roman Numerals while Mrs Martin’s group will move onto problem solving involving column addition and subtraction (e.g. missing digits in the calculation).
It has also been a very sporty week! Our dodgeball lessons have resumed and we were even treated to a martial arts session with Unite Formby. Many of the children have also been able to take part in Bikeability sessions throughout the week, practising their skills on the playground as well as the roads in the local area.
Please note that our brass lessons resumed on Friday afternoon. These sessions will now continue every Friday for the rest of term.
The children are aware of how to access their homework for next week – either on SATs Companion or in their books. Spellings have also been set. If your child is accessing their homework through SATs Companion and needs additional support, please remind them to watch the video input first. They can also revise any topics through the ‘Practice’ section of the app / website afterwards.
Have a good weekend, everyone!

What a busy week we have had in Reception!
This week in RE the children enjoyed discussing their favourite fruit. We looked at the globe and found out where different fruits come from across the world. We then discussed how they get from across the world into our shops by plane or boat. We then enjoyed tasting some different fruits. Delicious!
On Thursday, we celebrated 'National Poetry day'. First the children enjoyed listening to a poem called ‘Autumn Days' by a poet called Brenda Williams. We then closed our eyes and imagened that we were outside on a windy autumn day and thought about what we might see and hear. We then made a list of Autumn words that rhyme and made our own class poem. Well done everyone!
This week the children have been learning about the Autumn season and together we read a story called ‘Little Gooses Autumn’ by Elli Woollard. We discussed that changes that we see outside in the Autumn and explored some Autumn treasures. The children then enjoyed making their own Autumn leaf collage and hedgehog paintings. Brilliant work everyone!
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and see you all next week.
Miss Dalley and the Reception team.

Year 2 have been incredible this week and have shone in everything they have done.
In PE we continued to practice our dance, with the hope that we may be able to perform for our parents after half term, with Mrs Whitehead from Formby High School. We focused on developing out technique, pointing our toes and extending our hands discussing its importance. We are loving the music, which links carefully to our Science topics on ‘Animals including Humans’ and our Geography topic of countries around the world.
In RE we connected our learning back to last week and recapped the story of Mary Jones before learning about the Qumran Scrolls. We were shocked to hear how these stories were almost lost and how three lucky shepherds found them. We found it interesting to learn that in the past, scrolls were kept safe and dry in pots unlike today.
As always, we all continue our own journeys for Phonics and have been reading a variety of books in our groups. Our focus at the moment across the groups is letter formation.
We loved learning about the 3 times table in Maths, using the 100 square grid to help us identify patterns. After, we loved onto our new topic, Addition and Subtraction, recapping number bonds to 10 a topic we learnt in Year 1.
In Art, we used our tea towels from home, wool, and bubble wrap to make our very own felt. It certainly is a tricky process, but the final pieces were magnificent.
For Science, we were able to use some pictures from home to make investigate the human life cycle. We discussed how in class we have different family members at different stages as well as this, how we ourselves have been through many different stages already (the teachers more than us!)
From all of us here in Year 2, have a wonderful weekend.
Reminders
- PE days are Monday and Wednesdays each week.
- Parents Teacher Meetings are to be held on the 17th and 18th October and are designed to discuss how your child has settled into school.

Year 4 have SHINED this week!
In RE, we unpicked the Christian values and our School values that we felt were most important for God to see in our hearts. From kindness to nurturing, we justified what values we felt others should show and those closest to our hearts. To remind ourselves of the importance of our Collective Worship value ‘Thankfulness’ we created a Thankfulness Tree. On one side of a leaf, we wrote down something we are thankful for. On the other, we thought about what we could do to show thankfulness even more.
Taking on the role of Hannah in the story ‘Gorilla’, this week we wrote diary entries to express to the reader the events leading up to Hannah’s birthday in the story. Our writing was full of fronted adverbials to specific when, where or how an event took place, and we used the first person to write as if we were Hannah. We also discovered that Macaroni makes the perfect speech marks, as we used the pasta to symbolise where speech marks should go in a sentence. Next week, we will begin to plan and write our own interpretation of the story, Gorilla. This story will include features of writing that we have focused on this term.
We revisited Roman Numerals to start the week in Maths, recapping the numeral for 1, 5, 10, 50 and 100. We were quick to discover that the sequence on numerals impacts on whether we add or take away a number. It was then time to show off our knowledge of rounding to 10, 100 and 1000, working hard to use a number line to support our thinking. We love using rhymes to help us remember facts in Year 4, why not ask us to perform the Roman Numerals song or even our handy rounding rhyme at home. Next week, we begin to look at adding and taking away numbers and the formal methods we can use to support our calculations.
What a fantastic afternoon we had with the incredible coaches from UNITE. They took us through a self defence session, reminding us of the importance of respect and how we can safely perform defensive moves. On Friday, we celebrated National Poetry Day with a poem in our pockets. As we transitioned through school or onto the playground, we took out our poem from our pocket and share it with an adult or peer to brighten up their day with some poetical words. We certainly had lots of sharing faces who were overjoyed to hear our poetry.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday, Year 4!
Reminders:
- Year 4 PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Please ensure your child arrives to school wearing their PE kit on these days.
- As the colder weather sets in, please ensure your child brings a coat to school for break times.

Phew what a very busy week we have had! Nursery you are superstars
This week we have enjoyed learning a little more about our school values and meeting our special characters that help us to remember them. The children understand that we wear our uniform to show we belong to Trinity St Peter’s family, including our churches Holy Trinity and St Peter’s. The children loved hearing about Buddy, Leo, Meta, Cuddles and Mo and are able to talk about them and what they represent in relation to the school star. Well done Nursery!
The children have also continued to learn about Harvest and enjoyed the story of ‘Farmer Duck’. They have enjoyed acting out the story with their friends and discussing how important the job of a farmer is.
In small groups, the children have enjoyed making ‘hedgehog bread’ with Grayson. They took turns to measure out the ingredients, mix it up and then kneaded the bread into their hedgehog shape. Once the dough was in shape, they made cuts with scissors for the spikes and added two raisins. We hope you have enjoyed eating the bread at home!
We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Where has this half term gone, four weeks down three to go!
On Tuesday, we were delighted by the arrival of the ‘Big Top Circus’. We loved watching the tent being erected and discussed what exciting treasures and people might have been hiding inside! The feedback from those that attended, was that the show was magnificent and that the treats were delicious!
In Maths, we finished off our topic, Place Value by focusing on identifying numbers on a number line to 100. After, using the language and associated symbols, children compared numbers stating if they were ‘less than’, ‘greater than’ and equal to each other. Next week, we will develop our understanding if the 2s,5s, 10s- and 3-times table before moving onto Addition and Subtraction.
In RE we reflected on the importance of the Bible again and revisited a range of stories from the Bible. After, we listened to the story of Mary Jones, an extraordinary little girl who changed History by enabling more people, from all backgrounds, to have access to the Bible.
In Geography, we recapped the 7 continents and 5 oceans before discussing how the world has an equator, and how that affects the countries around it!
In PE, we continued to develop our ball skills, this time practicing our dribbling. We carefully focused on moving the ball with our feet, with little controlled passes, before stopping the ball quickly and accurately. On Wednesday, we were fortunate to have a dance lesson from Formby High School, using the soundtrack from the Lion King. Over the next few weeks, we will continue to develop this dance, with the hope that the children will feel confident to perform in front of their parents.
We were fortunate enough to attend the Year 5 Harvest assembly on Friday at St Peter’s Church in support of Southport Foodbank. The Year 5 children were incredible and should be very proud.

It has been another fun and productive week in Year 3!
We began the week on a high as we got to experience the construction of the Big Top Circus Tent. With lots of cheering and whooping as the enormous tent went up, it was fantastic to watch. On Tuesday the main circus event itself was spectacular with trapeze artists, jugglers and a fire show.
In RE, we continued learning about what it means to be 'called by God.' Everyone enjoyed watching a video clip and learning about the story of ‘Moses and the Burning Bush.’ We brainstormed as a class how it would feel to be ‘called by God.’ The children were then able to recall the key information from the Bible story. Next week we will be looking at the prophet Jonah and creating a memory board to help retell this Bible story.
In our English lessons, Year 3 have been learning how to use a richer vocabulary and how to draw inferences about characters feelings, thoughts and motives. We also introduced the use of inverted commas to punctuate direct speech. Next week, we will be asking questions to improve our understanding of texts and continue to draw inferences from characters' actions and speech.
During maths, the students have been practising flexible partitioning as we approach the end of our place value unit. We are going to finish our last lessons for this unit which will include number line work and estimation. We will move onto addition and subtraction lessons. Our first few sessions will address adding and subtracting ones, tens and hundreds; any extra practice you can complete at home with this topic will be helpful to our work in class.
In Science this week, the students really enjoyed planning and carrying out an investigation based on our key inquiry question; Do bones affect what we can do? The children had a choice of two questions to investigate with a small group. Do people with longer legs jump further? Or, do people with longer arms throw further? The students completed the investigation planning sheet and then completed the investigation as they had planned and recorded their results. Stay tuned for the results!
We are continuing our study of ‘Our European Neighbours’ in geography. This week, the children looked at identifying European countries according to their features. Looking closely at languages, flags and currency to be able to identify the correct European country. Next week, we will be exploring the major capital cities of Europe. If any of you have been to any capital cities within Europe and have any photographs then please send them in to enhance our discussion in our next geography lesson.
On Friday, we went to St Peter’s Church for a Harvest service led by the Year 5 students. We supported Southport Foodbank with our donations and joined Year 5 by singing hymns and offering our gratitude to God, our family and our friends for the things that we are grateful for.
Have a fantastic and restful weekend!
Date: 28th Sep 2023 @ 9:10pm

Another busy week which also included a Harvest Service and a circus!
In our RE work, we continued to explore the Bible. Using the 66 books that make up the greatest story ever told, we created some Bible word art. Our “wordles” demonstrated our ever-growing knowledge of the Bible in a creative and eye-catching format.
One of the main highlights of the week was the experience of the Big Top Circus Tent on the school field. We enjoyed watching the set up of the circus throughout the school day on Tuesday, and of course the incredible stalls, fire show and main circus event after school. Thank you to Team TSP for organising it all.
In this week’s Maths lessons, we have focused on negative numbers. Next week’s lessons will move onto multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimals by 10, 100 and 1000.
It was a particularly proud moment to end our school week as Year 5 led the Harvest Service at St. Peter’s Church. We were blown away by the children’s courage and confidence through beautiful readings, prayers and a dramatic retelling of a well-known Bible story, ‘Feeding the 5000’. Through this service, we thanked God for the creation of the world and reminded our school community about the importance of helping others in need, particularly through such vital causes as Southport Foodbank. Well done, Year 5!
Reminders:
-The School Spider booking system for the Parent-Teacher Meetings on Tuesday 17th October and Wednesday 18th October will go live on Monday 9th October at 6pm and close on Friday 13th October at 6pm.
-Maths and English homework tasks can be found on 'Mirodo'.
- Weekly spellings can be found on Google Classroom.
Date: 28th Sep 2023 @ 3:54pm

On Tuesday, the children were very excited to watch the circus arrive at Trinity St Peter’s. What an amazing circus this was! Thank you so much to Team TSP for organising this fantastic event.
On Wednesday, Reception went to their first ‘WOW’ service of the year. We were celebrating the festival of Harvest and three of the children stood at the front to say a prayer. We were so proud of how amazing you were! The children then sang two songs in front of their friends and family in church. Thank you for the all generous donations that will be going to the foodbank. Thank you to Anne and Caroline for a lovely service. On Thursday Caroline came to speak to the children about gifts and talents and the children were able to talk about what they are good at. We talked about how Jesus asks us to use our talents to help others. Thank you so much for out Godly play session.
After reading a story called ‘Oliver’s vegetables’, Reception discovered a basket of vegetables in the classroom. We looked at the vegetables and talked about how they looked and felt. The children talked about what their favourite vegetable is. The children then looked at the basket of vegetables and had a go at observational paintings with watercolours.
In Maths the children have been learning how to sort items. The children discovered a washing line with different socks hanging from it. We had to work together to find the matching sock to make a pair. We thought about what was different about the socks and what was the same. We then had a go at sorting buttons depending to their size, shape or colour. Reception you have been amazing.
On Thursday we enjoyed taking part in an Afternoon tea performance with our Year 6 buddies. The children thoroughly enjoyed performing a song with their Year 6 friends. We hope you all enjoyed having the chance to meet your child’s year 6 buddy.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and see you all next week.
Miss Dalley and the Reception team.

What an exciting week Year 1 have had!
In Maths, we have continued our topic on Place Value, focusing on less than and greater than. We have used a variety of manipulatives to support our learning, some of our favourites are ten frames, counters and large cubes. We have enjoyed lots of practical activities this week, using our number bond knowledge to create and order numbers within 10.
We have had another fantastic History lesson this week, learning more about nurses. We explored the fascinating life of Mary Seacole, where we discovered how she helped the soldiers in Crimea just like Florence Nightingale! Together as a class we compared the two nurses, discussing their similarities and differences. We discovered that they both helped care for soldiers in the Crimea, and they both changed how nursing was perceived. We also realised that they had a lot of differences, as Mary Seacole was soon forgotten after the war ended, whereas Florence Nightingale was remembered as a hero. Year 1 reflected on this by commenting that the way Mary Seacole was treated was unfair, as she was just as deserving and worked just as hard.

Another busy week - despite some of us still recovering from our Robinwood residential!
As authors, we commenced our writing journey in Year 6 by writing a short recount from Robinwood. We imagined being back in Wrexham and how we felt as we approached our own biggest challenge there. Using a range of clauses, punctuation and vocabulary, we then created some excellent pieces of work, which the children should be very proud of. If this is what the children are already producing already, we can’t wait to see what they are creating by the end of the year!
Thursday was an extra special day as the children co-hosted an ‘afternoon tea’ for Reception parents, alongside their buddies. As always, it was so lovely to see the Year 6 children supporting their younger peers - especially during their musical performance, which was a rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story. We were also particularly impressed with our Year 6 pupils when they introduced their buddies and shared several facts about them with the parents. Our children spoke confidently and projected their voices clearly. Well done, Year 6!
On Friday, we attended our Harvest assembly, led by our fantastic Year 5 class at St. Peter’s Church. As well as enjoying the readings and drama performed by Year 5 pupils, we had been waiting to show off our singing and dance skills as we performed ‘Beautiful World’ and our favourite, ‘Harvest Samba’! We were blown away by the children’s confidence and enthusiasm during singing rehearsals – this bodes well for our leavers’ performances at the end of the year! In addition to our singing lessons, our brass lessons will resume from next Friday afternoon.
Of course, one of the main highlights of the week was the experience of the Big Top Circus Tent on the school field. It was great to watch it being set up during the school day on Tuesday, and of course the incredible stalls, fire show and main circus event after school. Thank you to Team TSP for organising it all.
Homework has now commenced and will be due in on Wednesday. In Mr King’s group, Maths and SPaG tasks will be set on SATs Companion unless stated otherwise. The children have been introduced to the website / iOs application this week and are aware of how to access their homework tasks (as well as video tutorials provided for additional support). A guide for parents on how to use SATs Companion has been attached to this blog. Your child’s username is their full name with no spaces and their password is the same as their Sumdog password, which can be found on Google Classroom. Please email Mr King (y6@tsp.sefton.school) if there are any problems. There are many other useful features on the site, including a ‘Practice’ section, where the children can access videos and lessons on all KS2 objectives for Maths, Reading and Writing at any time. Please do encourage the children to use this section at home to support them with their ongoing learning in these areas.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Date: 27th Sep 2023 @ 10:42am

What a wonderful week here in Year 4, filled with so many exciting learning opportunities and not to forget …. A CIRCUS!
In RE, we read about how God chose David to be the new king, after Saul let God down. We learn that God rejected him, because he does not judge as people judge. People look at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart. We comprehended what God saw in David’s heart and recognised that lots of our school values were values that David held.
In English, we took a moment to pause and reflect on some of our misconceptions, to help us improve our writing. Using our creativity, we make tricks and tips to help us remember whether to use their, there or they’re and also revised when and why an apostrophe is needed. Looking back at our story ‘Gorilla’ to revisit the pages we have read so far, we used a Flow Map to outline the main events that have took place in the story. We then began to plan a diary entry for each of the main events, using expanded noun phrases to add detail and fronted adverbials to inform the reader of when the events took place. Next week, we will be learning the rules for adding speech into our writing and ensuring every sentence we right have the correct punctuation.
After researching the mountains in the UK, we ordered their heights to demonstrate our ability to order numbers to 10,000. We also used our knowledge of greater than and less than, to compare different numbers whether they were shown pictorially or in written words or numbers. We encountered a Roman in our Maths lesson this week, who helped us to march around the classroom reciting Roman numerals and we even learnt a song along the way to help us remember them! Next week, we will recap rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 before moving onto formal methods of adding numbers.
On Friday, we attended our Harvest assembly, led by our fantastic Year 5 class at St. Peter’s Church. We supported Southport Foodbank with our donations, accompanied Year 5 by singing some beautiful hymns and took the time to show gratitude to God and those around us for the things we are grateful for.
Of course, the highlight of the week was experiencing the construction of the Big Top Circus Tent on our very own school field. We were thrilled to cheer across the field as the tent was erected and experience the hustle and bustle of the set up. Not to forget the incredible stalls, fire show and main Circus event we were giving the opportunity to attend after school.
A busy week, Year 4! Rest those happy feet ready for Monday.
Reminders:
- Spellings continue to be uploaded onto Google Classroom every Friday at 3pm and are tested the following Thursday in class.
- PE continues to take place on a Tuesday and Swimming every Wednesday.

Well done Nursery, what a super week we have had!!
This week we had our very first ‘WOW’ service, this week, which was all about Harvest. The service was led by Anne and Caroline. The children enjoyed singing and doing the actions for ‘Old McDonald had and farm and Dingle Dangle Scarecrow’, Nursery your singing was fantastic. We were also treated to a visit from Caroline for our first Godly play of the year, Caroline talked to the children all about their ‘Gifts and Talents’, thank you Caroline we love it when you visit us in school
On Monday the children visited the Forest school site behind the church in the grounds of St Peter’s Church. They took their seats in the ‘Fire Circle’ and talked about the different rules and routines. The children learnt how to leave the fire circle safely and move around it without walking across the fire. They also took part in a game called 1,2,3 where are you. Maybe you could play this game at home?
The children began the week by finding the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’, they enjoyed listening to this and then through the week the children have acted out the story in our role-play area. The children were excited to discover that on Friday the Little Red Hen left them a variety of different bread to taste with honey and jam. The children enjoyed this tasty treat as a snack and wanted more!!!!!!! We have also enjoyed looking at different types of vegetables and using these to print with to create brilliant pictures.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

The weather has certainly not dampened our spirts this week but we do think many of us will sleep well this weekend!
We started the week off with a bang, with a visit from the incredible ‘Bring the Fire’ team who taught us how to part of the circus! We loved getting involved, spinning plates, juggling balls and completing some very tricky stick work. We absolutely loved our workshop and cannot wait for the circus to arrive next Tuesday!
We continued with our Place Value topic in Maths, and using a range of practical resources we connected our learning back to Year 1 to partition numbers to 100 in many different ways. We identified that numbers beyond 10 did not always have to partitioned by their tens and ones and could be divided in many different ways. Next week, we will finish this topic by exploring numbers, beyond 20, on a number line.
In RE we reflected on our learning from last week and reminded ourselves why the Bible is as important story for Christians. After we explored different stories from the Bible, first the story ‘The Good Samaritan’ and later, the Creation story, which linked nicely to our Collective Value topic, Creation. We retold both these stories in different ways.
In Science, we recapped our learning from Year 1, and recalled the meaning of ‘carnivore’, ‘herbivore’ and ‘omnivore’. After, we built on this knowledge and identified the three main things all living things need to survive.
We also built on our prior learning in Geography, where we reminded ourselves of the 7 continents, before identifying and learning about the surrounding 5 oceans.
Reminders
- There will be a KS1 workshop for fluency in Phonics on Wednesday 28th September 2023
- Children are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school each day.

We have had a wonderful week in Year 3.
In RE, we began our unit "Called by God." Our aim in this unit is to consider what it means to be called by God and the responses people have made to that call. All of the children thought of ways they are asked to do things in their everyday lives. Many of their answers included chores at home or helping with younger siblings. A new star vocabulary word was introduced, as well: Prophet. Next week, we will be studying about different Prophets from the Old Testament and creating questions we would like to ask them.
In our English reading and writing lesson, we read a poem called Seal by Robert Frost. We found interesting verbs to describe the movement of water as well as highlighting prepositions that we focused on last week. We then created our own list of verbs to describe the movement of different sea animals. Which we will be able to incorporate in to next weeks lesson when we write our own ‘What am I?’ poem.
In Spanish this week, we stuck with our ‘under the sea’ theme and learnt a fantastic and very catchy song about el pez (the fish) and el cangrejo (the crab). We added actions to help us learn and remember our new song.
Place value has continued to be our focus in Maths delving deeper into the value of digits in a three digit number. We also have been using the number line to estimate numbers and figuring out the intervals on number lines with missing labels proved to be very tricky but using the learning curve the children persevered and are feeling more confident.
During our reading lessons we have been focusing on ‘The Sea Book’ which is a non-fiction text. We have investigated the roles of a ‘contents’ page and an ‘index’ page. The children also practised their dictionary skills to see if they could find definitions of words within the text.
In Geography, we are focusing on our topic ‘Our European Neighbours’ and this week we looked at identifying and locating countries in Europe. The children used their laptops to navigate a map of Europe and then identify and label the countries on a map.
In PE, we have now mastered our point and patch balances and have moved on to use a variety of different levels. Exploring balance, shape and jumping on a different level. We certainly have some fantastic gymnasts this year!
A poster containing 100 recommended reads for Year 3 children has been attached to this blog. By providing 100 quality texts at an age appropriate level, this list may be useful when choosing your child's next book. We hope it inspires the children to continue on in their reading journeys whilst further encouraging a lifelong love of books and stories.
Enjoy your weekend, Year 3. See you on Monday!

We have had another fantastic week in Year 1!
We had an exciting start to the week as we had the chance to take part in a circus skills workshop, we learned all about spinning plates, flowers stick tricks and even practiced some juggling! We were fascinated by the circus performers from Bring he Fire Project, their skills were incredible! We would all love to be part of the circus one day.
In Maths this week we have continued to develop our understanding of place value. This week we have focused on understanding how to count backwards. We have used concrete recourses throughout the week to support our understanding. We used small cubes to help us find one more and one less, we have also practiced counting backwards from 10 on a number line.
This week we began our History topic, learning all about Florence Nightingale. We read all about her life and how she helped soldiers in the Crimean War. Together we created a story map of her life in chronological order. We were so impressed by her resilience and kindness as she worked to make such ground-breaking changes to nursing. We were truly inspired by her achievements, and lots of us would love to be a nurse like her one day!

What a busy week it has been! Take a look at some of our highlights:
We had a fun time learning about God's creation story and making decorative globes during our collective worship time on Monday. We worked as a team to design and construct our own Creation Globes to showcase the 7 days of creation.
In English this week, we have been using our laptops to research interesting and informative gorilla facts. We organised all of the information we discovered into a classification tree, categorising our research into facts about habitat, diet, appearance and fun facts. Using that facts we had learned, we created expanded noun phrases and sentences with fronted adverbials to show off our new factual knowledge.
In Maths, we continued our work on place value. Our tasks this week involved partitioning the same thousands number in different ways, estimating number placement on a number line with numbers up to 10,000 and adding/subtracting 10 and 100 to larger 4-digit numbers.
On Tuesday, we learned about the wonderful charity Jeans for Genes. There are definitely a few budding fashion designers in our midst. The children showed thoughtfulness in their discussion of the charity and in the choices they made for the images drawn on their jeans.
We we're delighted to be visited by the incredible Bring the Fire and given the opportunity to run away with the circus (to the hall) and learn how to perform tricks that put our coordination skills to the test. We had so much fun learning together, encouraging one another to do our best.
Have a wonderful weekend Year 4. We look forward to seeing you all on Monday!

This week in RE the children explored their own finger prints. We talked about how everyone’s finger print is different and unique to us. We then talked about how we know that we are special to God and he loves us all the same not matter what. The children then created a finger print painting that is unique, just like them!
This week the children have been learning all about the circus in preparation for the arrival of the circus next Tuesday. We looked at the different tricks and performances that may be seen there and looked at their amazing costumes. The children enjoyed balancing on stilts in the outdoor area, pretending to walk along a tight rope and played pin the nose on the clown. The children then enjoyed making a paper plate clown craft. On Tuesday we had a very exciting visit from ‘Bring the fire’ for a circus skills workshop. Reception enjoyed learning some new circus tricks using ribbons and scarves and performed along to some music. What a brilliant day we had!
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and see you all next week!

Another week races by in the Year 5 classroom!
Our Science work took us on a journey into the great unknown…outer space! We are already fascinated by this topic and have been adding so much to our knowledge in just the first few lessons. In one particular lesson, we took ourselves to the school field as we needed a large, open area for what we were going to do. Here, we created a human, scale model of our Solar System…using toilet roll! With our Sun at the centre of the field, the children (each responsible for a certain planet) had to place themselves a specific number of squares of toilet paper away from the sun in order to represent their scaled distance in outer space. So, our Mercury and inner planet teams didn’t need to take all that many steps to represent their 48 million+ kilometres from the sun. However, our Uranus and Neptune teams certainly raised their step count and ended up near the outskirts of our school field. We hope this fun activity helped to create a bit more understanding of just how vast our solar system actually is.
In our Collective Worship work, we explored our monthly value focus on ‘Creation’. We started by watching a short video that represented how God created the world in seven days (as per the Bible story in Genesis). The children then applied their creativity by creating a “Creation Cube” in which each face of the cube represented a different day of the world’s creation. Of course, the seventh day wasn’t included because this is the day that God rested and made holy. It was great to observe the children’s careful creation of their cubes during an excellent Collective Worship session.
In English, we continued to delve further into our focus text, ‘Queen of the Falls’. We also read some biographies from the inspirational book, ‘Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls’ as we learned about computer scientist, Margaret Hamilton, who played a pivotal role in the Apollo 11 moon landing. There will be plenty more tales of courage, bravery and creativity to follow as we continue to explore this book! Not only that, following our work on Wonder, we found out that RJ Palacio had written a bonus chapter from the viewpoint of the character of Julian, which was not featured in the original release nor the film. We look forward to reading even more next week!
In Maths, we have been focusing upon rounding. Next week’s lessons will continue our focus on rounding and extend to negative numbers. We’re sure there will be plenty more Maths games thrown in there too!
Another highlight was our visit from the ‘Bring the Fire’ project who taught us some circus skills ahead of the arrival of the Big Top circus next week. We had a try at juggling, plate spinning and more. Great fun!
A fantastic week and we are already looking forward to all that next week will bring. In the meantime, enjoy your weekend and I will see you all on Monday!

Well...what an active and exciting week it has been!
Last week, we were informed that a circus would be coming to school at the end of the month and that we would need to help prepare for the big event. As a result, last Friday we were treated to a typography workshop with Jenny from Outline Arts, who helped us create the TSP bunting to display in the circus tent when it arrived. This week, we continued with our preparations by having two sessions with ‘Bring the Fire’, a company that specialises in ‘all things circus’! The children took part in individual and team challenges, including performing different tricks with hula hoops and juggling clubs. A very unique way to start the week!
In Maths, we continued to practise our times tables in preparation for all the new learning we will be doing this year. On Tuesday, we discussed all the different ways we can practise times tables at home, including chanting, various iOs apps and simply writing them out. We then got onto the topic of learning through song, which led to us singing a couple of songs off Youtube. Before we knew it, this had then transcended into us splitting off into groups and writing our own times tables songs to the music of some of our favourite artists, such as Taylor Swift and Harry Styles. It was wonderful to see so many of the children continuing this activity into their break and lunch times and then performing their songs to the rest of the class. Well done, Year 6!
From Wednesday onwards, it was the trip many of us had been eagerly awaiting…Robinwood! We know that our parents have been keeping a close eye on the Twitter feeds and have appreciated the efforts of our staff to post regular updates – while also supporting the children and getting involved in the activities themselves! The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience as they faced fears, challenged themselves and continued to strengthen the bonds they have made with their friends and the adults in class. Thank you to the children, Robinwood and the TSP staff for working so well together to create the magical few days we have had. We are sure this has been an experience they won't forget!
Please note: pre-ordered souvenirs from Robinwood will be handed out on Monday. Medication can be collected from Mr King at the classroom door at the start or end of any school day next week.
We hope the children sleep well tonight and that you all have a very relaxing weekend!
See you on Monday!

Well done Nursery, what a super week we have had!!
On Tuesday the children were excited to take part in circus skills with Bring the fire project. They practised juggling with scarves and catching the scarfs on different parts of our bodies for example our head, leg and foot. They also used the ribbons and the best part was plate spinning! The children loved every minute and had lots of fun!
We have spent the week learning all about the circus in preparation of our Circus event next week. The children talked about their experiences of visiting a circus and what they may see when they visit a circus. The children enjoyed creating clown pictures, playing with pop corn and even had a try at juggling and balancing along a tightrope! What fun we have had.
We have also enjoyed the wet weather this week, making bubbles in the puddles with brushes and mixing paint in the puddles with sweeping brushes.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

What a busy week Year 3 have had!
We celebrated Roald Dahl Day by reading and writing about one of his famous texts, The Twits. We focused primarily on the imagery and language that Dahl used when describing Mr and Mrs Twit. The children listened to extracts from the book and identified the key descriptions of the characters. Using this information, they were then asked to draw the characters. We discussed how Dahl used adjectives to describe the characters and as a class came up with some impressive similes. The children finished by creating a ‘profile’ on Mr Twit, describing his appearance and personality. Then finally, the front cover was revealed!
In Maths, we have been focusing on place value. The children have been looking closely at the hundreds, tens and ones places. Our learning goals focused on partitioning and the representation of different 3-digit numbers using Base-10 pictures. We have deepened our understanding of tens and ones using base 10, place value charts and the part – part – whole representation. We have represented numbers on a number line and looked at partitioning numbers into tens and ones and then partitioning numbers.
During our writing sessions, the children have been looking at the book Seal Surfer by Michael Foreman. This week, we looked at punctuation and grammar, concentrating on full stops and capital letters. We looked carefully at sentence structure and the elements that are required for sentences to read clearly and accurately. The children were then encouraged to improve their own sentences and edit their writing independently. We also introduced prepositions and have looked closely at how to use them within a sentence.
In Science, we have started our new topic on Animals. This week we asked the question; How does our skeleton help us? We identified that humans and some other animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection, and movement. We used our own bodies to label the ‘common bones’ before using the correct terminology; ulna, femur, tibia and fibula.
Ending our week on a high, we were joined by Outline Arts who guided us through an Art workshop, with the aim being to design a moving acrobatic sculpture. These sculptures will become part of our whole school collaborative art display.
