The weather has certainly not dampened our spirts this week but we do think many of us will sleep well this weekend!
We started the week off with a bang, with a visit from the incredible ‘Bring the Fire’ team who taught us how to part of the circus! We loved getting involved, spinning plates, juggling balls and completing some very tricky stick work. We absolutely loved our workshop and cannot wait for the circus to arrive next Tuesday!
We continued with our Place Value topic in Maths, and using a range of practical resources we connected our learning back to Year 1 to partition numbers to 100 in many different ways. We identified that numbers beyond 10 did not always have to partitioned by their tens and ones and could be divided in many different ways. Next week, we will finish this topic by exploring numbers, beyond 20, on a number line.
In RE we reflected on our learning from last week and reminded ourselves why the Bible is as important story for Christians. After we explored different stories from the Bible, first the story ‘The Good Samaritan’ and later, the Creation story, which linked nicely to our Collective Value topic, Creation. We retold both these stories in different ways.
In Science, we recapped our learning from Year 1, and recalled the meaning of ‘carnivore’, ‘herbivore’ and ‘omnivore’. After, we built on this knowledge and identified the three main things all living things need to survive.
We also built on our prior learning in Geography, where we reminded ourselves of the 7 continents, before identifying and learning about the surrounding 5 oceans.
Reminders
- There will be a KS1 workshop for fluency in Phonics on Wednesday 28th September 2023
- Children are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school each day.

We have had a wonderful week in Year 3.
In RE, we began our unit "Called by God." Our aim in this unit is to consider what it means to be called by God and the responses people have made to that call. All of the children thought of ways they are asked to do things in their everyday lives. Many of their answers included chores at home or helping with younger siblings. A new star vocabulary word was introduced, as well: Prophet. Next week, we will be studying about different Prophets from the Old Testament and creating questions we would like to ask them.
In our English reading and writing lesson, we read a poem called Seal by Robert Frost. We found interesting verbs to describe the movement of water as well as highlighting prepositions that we focused on last week. We then created our own list of verbs to describe the movement of different sea animals. Which we will be able to incorporate in to next weeks lesson when we write our own ‘What am I?’ poem.
In Spanish this week, we stuck with our ‘under the sea’ theme and learnt a fantastic and very catchy song about el pez (the fish) and el cangrejo (the crab). We added actions to help us learn and remember our new song.
Place value has continued to be our focus in Maths delving deeper into the value of digits in a three digit number. We also have been using the number line to estimate numbers and figuring out the intervals on number lines with missing labels proved to be very tricky but using the learning curve the children persevered and are feeling more confident.
During our reading lessons we have been focusing on ‘The Sea Book’ which is a non-fiction text. We have investigated the roles of a ‘contents’ page and an ‘index’ page. The children also practised their dictionary skills to see if they could find definitions of words within the text.
In Geography, we are focusing on our topic ‘Our European Neighbours’ and this week we looked at identifying and locating countries in Europe. The children used their laptops to navigate a map of Europe and then identify and label the countries on a map.
In PE, we have now mastered our point and patch balances and have moved on to use a variety of different levels. Exploring balance, shape and jumping on a different level. We certainly have some fantastic gymnasts this year!
A poster containing 100 recommended reads for Year 3 children has been attached to this blog. By providing 100 quality texts at an age appropriate level, this list may be useful when choosing your child's next book. We hope it inspires the children to continue on in their reading journeys whilst further encouraging a lifelong love of books and stories.
Enjoy your weekend, Year 3. See you on Monday!

We have had another fantastic week in Year 1!
We had an exciting start to the week as we had the chance to take part in a circus skills workshop, we learned all about spinning plates, flowers stick tricks and even practiced some juggling! We were fascinated by the circus performers from Bring he Fire Project, their skills were incredible! We would all love to be part of the circus one day.
In Maths this week we have continued to develop our understanding of place value. This week we have focused on understanding how to count backwards. We have used concrete recourses throughout the week to support our understanding. We used small cubes to help us find one more and one less, we have also practiced counting backwards from 10 on a number line.
This week we began our History topic, learning all about Florence Nightingale. We read all about her life and how she helped soldiers in the Crimean War. Together we created a story map of her life in chronological order. We were so impressed by her resilience and kindness as she worked to make such ground-breaking changes to nursing. We were truly inspired by her achievements, and lots of us would love to be a nurse like her one day!

What a busy week it has been! Take a look at some of our highlights:
We had a fun time learning about God's creation story and making decorative globes during our collective worship time on Monday. We worked as a team to design and construct our own Creation Globes to showcase the 7 days of creation.
In English this week, we have been using our laptops to research interesting and informative gorilla facts. We organised all of the information we discovered into a classification tree, categorising our research into facts about habitat, diet, appearance and fun facts. Using that facts we had learned, we created expanded noun phrases and sentences with fronted adverbials to show off our new factual knowledge.
In Maths, we continued our work on place value. Our tasks this week involved partitioning the same thousands number in different ways, estimating number placement on a number line with numbers up to 10,000 and adding/subtracting 10 and 100 to larger 4-digit numbers.
On Tuesday, we learned about the wonderful charity Jeans for Genes. There are definitely a few budding fashion designers in our midst. The children showed thoughtfulness in their discussion of the charity and in the choices they made for the images drawn on their jeans.
We we're delighted to be visited by the incredible Bring the Fire and given the opportunity to run away with the circus (to the hall) and learn how to perform tricks that put our coordination skills to the test. We had so much fun learning together, encouraging one another to do our best.
Have a wonderful weekend Year 4. We look forward to seeing you all on Monday!

This week in RE the children explored their own finger prints. We talked about how everyone’s finger print is different and unique to us. We then talked about how we know that we are special to God and he loves us all the same not matter what. The children then created a finger print painting that is unique, just like them!
This week the children have been learning all about the circus in preparation for the arrival of the circus next Tuesday. We looked at the different tricks and performances that may be seen there and looked at their amazing costumes. The children enjoyed balancing on stilts in the outdoor area, pretending to walk along a tight rope and played pin the nose on the clown. The children then enjoyed making a paper plate clown craft. On Tuesday we had a very exciting visit from ‘Bring the fire’ for a circus skills workshop. Reception enjoyed learning some new circus tricks using ribbons and scarves and performed along to some music. What a brilliant day we had!
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and see you all next week!

Another week races by in the Year 5 classroom!
Our Science work took us on a journey into the great unknown…outer space! We are already fascinated by this topic and have been adding so much to our knowledge in just the first few lessons. In one particular lesson, we took ourselves to the school field as we needed a large, open area for what we were going to do. Here, we created a human, scale model of our Solar System…using toilet roll! With our Sun at the centre of the field, the children (each responsible for a certain planet) had to place themselves a specific number of squares of toilet paper away from the sun in order to represent their scaled distance in outer space. So, our Mercury and inner planet teams didn’t need to take all that many steps to represent their 48 million+ kilometres from the sun. However, our Uranus and Neptune teams certainly raised their step count and ended up near the outskirts of our school field. We hope this fun activity helped to create a bit more understanding of just how vast our solar system actually is.
In our Collective Worship work, we explored our monthly value focus on ‘Creation’. We started by watching a short video that represented how God created the world in seven days (as per the Bible story in Genesis). The children then applied their creativity by creating a “Creation Cube” in which each face of the cube represented a different day of the world’s creation. Of course, the seventh day wasn’t included because this is the day that God rested and made holy. It was great to observe the children’s careful creation of their cubes during an excellent Collective Worship session.
In English, we continued to delve further into our focus text, ‘Queen of the Falls’. We also read some biographies from the inspirational book, ‘Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls’ as we learned about computer scientist, Margaret Hamilton, who played a pivotal role in the Apollo 11 moon landing. There will be plenty more tales of courage, bravery and creativity to follow as we continue to explore this book! Not only that, following our work on Wonder, we found out that RJ Palacio had written a bonus chapter from the viewpoint of the character of Julian, which was not featured in the original release nor the film. We look forward to reading even more next week!
In Maths, we have been focusing upon rounding. Next week’s lessons will continue our focus on rounding and extend to negative numbers. We’re sure there will be plenty more Maths games thrown in there too!
Another highlight was our visit from the ‘Bring the Fire’ project who taught us some circus skills ahead of the arrival of the Big Top circus next week. We had a try at juggling, plate spinning and more. Great fun!
A fantastic week and we are already looking forward to all that next week will bring. In the meantime, enjoy your weekend and I will see you all on Monday!

Well...what an active and exciting week it has been!
Last week, we were informed that a circus would be coming to school at the end of the month and that we would need to help prepare for the big event. As a result, last Friday we were treated to a typography workshop with Jenny from Outline Arts, who helped us create the TSP bunting to display in the circus tent when it arrived. This week, we continued with our preparations by having two sessions with ‘Bring the Fire’, a company that specialises in ‘all things circus’! The children took part in individual and team challenges, including performing different tricks with hula hoops and juggling clubs. A very unique way to start the week!
In Maths, we continued to practise our times tables in preparation for all the new learning we will be doing this year. On Tuesday, we discussed all the different ways we can practise times tables at home, including chanting, various iOs apps and simply writing them out. We then got onto the topic of learning through song, which led to us singing a couple of songs off Youtube. Before we knew it, this had then transcended into us splitting off into groups and writing our own times tables songs to the music of some of our favourite artists, such as Taylor Swift and Harry Styles. It was wonderful to see so many of the children continuing this activity into their break and lunch times and then performing their songs to the rest of the class. Well done, Year 6!
From Wednesday onwards, it was the trip many of us had been eagerly awaiting…Robinwood! We know that our parents have been keeping a close eye on the Twitter feeds and have appreciated the efforts of our staff to post regular updates – while also supporting the children and getting involved in the activities themselves! The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience as they faced fears, challenged themselves and continued to strengthen the bonds they have made with their friends and the adults in class. Thank you to the children, Robinwood and the TSP staff for working so well together to create the magical few days we have had. We are sure this has been an experience they won't forget!
Please note: pre-ordered souvenirs from Robinwood will be handed out on Monday. Medication can be collected from Mr King at the classroom door at the start or end of any school day next week.
We hope the children sleep well tonight and that you all have a very relaxing weekend!
See you on Monday!

Well done Nursery, what a super week we have had!!
On Tuesday the children were excited to take part in circus skills with Bring the fire project. They practised juggling with scarves and catching the scarfs on different parts of our bodies for example our head, leg and foot. They also used the ribbons and the best part was plate spinning! The children loved every minute and had lots of fun!
We have spent the week learning all about the circus in preparation of our Circus event next week. The children talked about their experiences of visiting a circus and what they may see when they visit a circus. The children enjoyed creating clown pictures, playing with pop corn and even had a try at juggling and balancing along a tightrope! What fun we have had.
We have also enjoyed the wet weather this week, making bubbles in the puddles with brushes and mixing paint in the puddles with sweeping brushes.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

What a busy week Year 3 have had!
We celebrated Roald Dahl Day by reading and writing about one of his famous texts, The Twits. We focused primarily on the imagery and language that Dahl used when describing Mr and Mrs Twit. The children listened to extracts from the book and identified the key descriptions of the characters. Using this information, they were then asked to draw the characters. We discussed how Dahl used adjectives to describe the characters and as a class came up with some impressive similes. The children finished by creating a ‘profile’ on Mr Twit, describing his appearance and personality. Then finally, the front cover was revealed!
In Maths, we have been focusing on place value. The children have been looking closely at the hundreds, tens and ones places. Our learning goals focused on partitioning and the representation of different 3-digit numbers using Base-10 pictures. We have deepened our understanding of tens and ones using base 10, place value charts and the part – part – whole representation. We have represented numbers on a number line and looked at partitioning numbers into tens and ones and then partitioning numbers.
During our writing sessions, the children have been looking at the book Seal Surfer by Michael Foreman. This week, we looked at punctuation and grammar, concentrating on full stops and capital letters. We looked carefully at sentence structure and the elements that are required for sentences to read clearly and accurately. The children were then encouraged to improve their own sentences and edit their writing independently. We also introduced prepositions and have looked closely at how to use them within a sentence.
In Science, we have started our new topic on Animals. This week we asked the question; How does our skeleton help us? We identified that humans and some other animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection, and movement. We used our own bodies to label the ‘common bones’ before using the correct terminology; ulna, femur, tibia and fibula.
Ending our week on a high, we were joined by Outline Arts who guided us through an Art workshop, with the aim being to design a moving acrobatic sculpture. These sculptures will become part of our whole school collaborative art display.

What a fantastic week year 1 have had! We have had so much fun getting to know each other even more.
At the start of the week, in RE, we began our topic ‘Harvest’ and discussed how the food we eat comes from different parts of the world. We created our own pitta pizzas, using ingredients from all around the world. We investigated the packaging and discovered that some of our ingredients came from the Middle East!
We had an exciting day on Wednesday celebrating Roald Dahl Day. We looked at Roald Dahl’s life story, and discussed some of our favourite Roald Dahl stories! We decided that one of our class favourites is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! We had so much fun looking at the Oompa Loompa song. We then created our own characters and designed individual gingerbread men.
We had the greatest afternoon learning all about the Circus! Taking part in an amazing art workshop, creating the most fantastic circus themed bunting. We are so excited to take part in more workshops next week!
Well done for all of your brilliant work this week Year 1, we are so proud of how much you are learning already! We hope you all have an amazing weekend, and look forward to seeing you on Monday!

This week for RE, the children thought about what makes them special and unique. The children have enjoyed listening to a story called ‘You are very special’ and we talked about how God loves us all the same. The children then explored a ‘chatterbox’ of items where we explored different items that we may own which are unique to everyone. The children then made their own mirror and decorated it using different mark making techniques with crayons.
On Thursday we took part in an amazing circus themed art lesson with ‘Outline arts’. The children experimented with painting and mark making techniques using different materials. Then then were able to create their own art work which will be put together to make a circus tent! This will be displayed in the school hall along with the art work from the other classes. Thank you so much to Outline Arts for a fantastic workshop!
On Friday we celebrated ‘Dot Day’, where all the children came to school in their lovely spotty clothes. Together we read the story ‘The dot’ and discussed how we can all make our own individual mark. The children then created their own mark on a long piece of paper and we played a game of ‘find the dot’ by searching for circular items in our environment. The children then decorated their own dotty biscuit to take home. To finish a fun and busy day, our Year 6 buddies came to play with us. What a brilliant day we have had.

What a fantastic second week in the Year 5 classroom!
In RE, we started our new unit which is centred around the Bible. We learned the history of the Bible in our first lesson and how it is made up of up to 66 different books with many different writers. We then were tasked with navigating the Bible itself using the book, chapter and verse to find the scripture that was required. After a few quick practises, the children then completed a problem-solving task in which they were given a specific Bible book, chapter and verse and they had to find the animal mentioned in that section.
In our English work, we began our writing focus for this half term which is centred around the incredible (and somewhat bizarre) tale of Annie Edson Taylor in 1901. All that we know so far is that Annie is a school teacher who performed a daredevil stunt involving a barrel and Niagara Falls. We enjoyed using our inference skills to investigate a picture of Annie to attempt to predict what the story is all about. There were also some jaw-dropping moments as we explored some different daredevils, including Danny Macaskill and his BMX skills in the short film, ‘The Ridge’.
Our Maths lessons have involved lots of place value games to help improve and develop our knowledge and understanding. This has included place value bingo and some tense games of ‘Nice or Nasty’ where the Year 5 children were pitted against their teacher. The scores are tied at 1-1 with a Year 5 victory in game one which was met with many, MANY cheers! Next week, we will continue our focus on place value, extending to rounding.
Ahead of the arrival of the Team TSP Big Top Circus on Tuesday 26th September, we were treated to an art workshop from Jenny from ‘Outline Arts’. Each class in the school was given an art task that will come together to form a whole school display. Year 5 designed some circus animals and we’re already excited to see how the finished piece looks!

Weekly Maths and English homework tasks will be uploaded on Mirodo (https://app.mirodoeducation.com/login) from next Friday (22nd September). Login details have been sent home with the children and we recommend that each family spends some time with their child before this date to ensure that login details work and to familiarise with the website. The children will also have the opportunity to try the website next week in class to ensure that they are confident navigating to the homework section. Going forward, homework will continue to be set in this way each Friday to be returned the following Wednesday. To confirm, login details have been sent home with your child and can also be found on Google Classroom.
Have a fantastic weekend everyone and see you Monday!

What a fantastic week we have had in Year 4!
Focusing on our Collective Worship monthly value of ‘Creation’ we created a 7 days of creation globe to represent the creations God made from light, to the sky, lands and sea to the moon. By day seven we realised that God has finished his work of creation and rested, making the seventh day a special holy day.
Our English focus book this term is ‘Gorilla’, written by Anthony Browne. Oh, how excited we were to discover the main character in the book was a big, hairy gorilla! We took the time to explore a range of different images used in the book and create expanded noun phrases to describe and specify the things we could see. Putting our thinking hats on to support us in comprehending emotions, we began to read a poem all about a silverback gorilla and explained how the author felt about gorillas. It was fair to say, our opinions of gorillas changed after reading the poem and we are all now HUGE gorilla fans. Next week, we will recall what makes an expanded noun phrase and begin to look at how we can use pronouns and adjectives to write about a gorilla, without using the word gorilla!
This week’s focus in Maths has been Place Value and showcasing what each number is worth, within a given number. We have been working hard to break down numbers into their thousands, hundreds, tens and ones, find numbers to 1000 on a number line and partition them using a part whole model. Next week, we will represent and partition numbers to 10,000 and find 1, 10, 100 and 1000 more and less.
We celebrated Roald Dahl day on Wednesday and we were inspired by the fantastic story ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’. In the story, George encapsulates our school value of Imagine and just like George, we are curious and creative too, so we created our very own marvellous medicine! We also continued our swimming lessons this week. We have been truly focusing on our school value of ‘Hope’ to have belief in ourselves that we are all fantastic swimmers.
With two weeks to go until the Trinity St. Peter’s Community Big Top Circus, we decided to look into a few of the performing acts. With out favourite performers being those who take on the Flying Trapeze, we made our own mini-me acrobats. We were also thrilled to be joined by Outline Arts who guided through an Art workshop to design a large drawing of silhouettes to form the crowds in the backdrop of our circus installation that will be proudly displaying in our school.

Our second full week in Year 6 is now complete! A special 'thank you' to all the parents for purchasing leavers' hoodies for the children - they look great!
In RE, we started our first unit, ‘Life as a Journey’. To begin, we reflected on what we mean by the word, ‘journey’ and considered all the different ways we can define it. We then considered how our whole life is a journey and mapped out our life journeys so far. Over the upcoming weeks, we will be exploring the different journeys others take, including those of particular religions, race and heritage and hopefully making lots of thoughtful connections.
In Mr King’s Maths group, a significant amount of time this week has also been taken up by assessments as the children have had their first practice of sitting past SATs papers. They have shown great determination and resilience throughout this process and we have been very impressed with their efforts – especially since they have just come back from their summer break and there will be content in these papers which we have not yet covered! The children were fully aware of this and know that these assessments were just to determine their ‘starting point’ for the year, as we discussed in our ‘Y6 parent meeting’ last week. Mrs Martin’s group will complete the same assessment shortly; this week, they have revised previous year group topics such as ‘place value’ and played some ‘ice-breaker’ activities to get used to the new setting.
In PE, we have continued with dodgeball (please note: ‘Fitness’ lessons will start this half-term once the weather cools down!). We have played several variations of the game to support us with making improvements on dodging, throwing and communication. It’s safe to say that the children are still enjoying this game!
Following our PE lesson on Tuesday afternoon, we took some time to evaluate our handwriting and identify our areas for improvements. Within less than an hour, we had already seen some superb transformations…now we just need to keep up our efforts!
We hope the children are looking forward to Robinwood. We have answered lots of the children’s queries regarding Robinwood in class; groups and timetables will be shared with them next week. Please ensure you have a luggage label to attach to your child’s luggage on Wednesday; there are extra labels in class and in the school office. Souvenir orders should have now been sent in so please do not make any orders next week. If your child requires any medication for the trip, please try to ensure this is handed in to Mr King prior to Wednesday morning.

What a fabulous week we have had, the children are really settling into the environment and enjoying making new friends.
On Monday the children started Forest school with Mrs Bevin. They took their seats around the ‘fire circle’ and talked about the Forest School rules. The children learnt how to leave the fire circle safely and also the calling sound used for the children to listen out for when exploring, this indicates a return to the circle.
On Thursday, we were visited by ‘Out line Arts’ who came to work with the children in preparation for our Circus day in a couple of weeks. The children enjoyed taking part in ‘popcorn’ craft. Their pictures were amazing and we can’t wait for you to see them displayed. Thank you to all involved and those who helped.
On Friday, we celebrated ‘Dot Day’ and the children looked amazing wearing their spotty clothes! They enjoyed making their own mark using a variety of different media for example paint, crayons, chalk and pencils and were very proud to display it in our very own art gallery. The children also took part in lots of spotty activities including hunt the spot and playing with the parachute. They even took part in singing ‘The Dot’ song and having a try at copying the actions.

We have certainly been busy this week in Year 2, full of laughter and excitement!
We streamed in Phonics again this week, reading given books whilst also developing our writing style. We focused on using the correct punctuation in sentences, including capital letters and full stops, as we all as using a wider range of vocabulary.
In Maths, we continued to develop our understanding of Place Value. We started the week by identifying the tens and ones in various representations. After, we used place value grids to partition larger numbers using on knowledge of tens and ones, breaking the numbers down into small numbers.
In PE we loved starting out new ‘Fundamentals’ topic which saw us developing our running skills. We focused on running in different ways; on our heels, with straight legs and with large steps, and identified which way felt not only ‘better’ but also allowed us to move more quickly without getting tired. We developed this further by identifying how to move our body when sprinting, using bent fast arms, as well as high knees. Later in the week, continued to focus on out ball skills focusing on different ways of stopping a ball in order to always remain in control.
We started our topic ‘Craft and Design: Map it Out’ in our Art lessons and using a variety of mediums, we created a map from our house to school. To add detail to our maps, we explored pressure and applying more pressure to add outlines and details.
Our week ended with a bang however, and we were delighted to take part in an ‘Outline Art’ workshop in the build-up to our visit from the circus. The team helped us create our own pop-up characters, adding vibrant colours to make it exciting just like the circus will be!

What a fantastic first week in Year 3! We are so proud of all your achievements this week.
This focused on our class routines, and rules with a special focus on kindness and its importance. To do this, we created posters for our friends, which showed what can do to be kind to each other. These posters were then discussed as a class and were pleasantly surprised that most of the posters have the same ideas! This linked nicely to our school value 'Nurture', agreeing that we should always 'Choose Kind' with not only people in our class but the wider community.
We absolutely loved our first gymnastics lesson which focused on travelling. In groups we created a routine, demonstrating the different ways we can move across the maps, ensuring that we were mirroring out partner. We discussed the importance of pointing our toes in certain positions, and, how we must travel in the same direction, so we don't crash!
In Maths, we put our Place Value skills to the test, connecting our learning back to Year 2, to play a tricky game of 'Snakes and Ladders'. Working in pairs, we had to solve questions, working out the answers, to ensure we moved up the board!
Please make sure you are following our school twitter account, @Year3TSP, where we will share updates throughout the day. Please also see the 'Successful Start' PowerPoint for more information about the coming year!

Wow what a fabulous week we have had! Reception, you have all been superstars. We are so proud of how well each and everyone of you have settled in this week.
We have had so much fun exploring our indoor and outdoor area and making lots of new friends. We read a lovely story called ‘The great big book of families’ and we talked about who lives in our house at home. The children then enjoyed drawing pictures of their home and family.
We had a very exciting surprise from a new friend who had visited our classroom. A little bear had left a note and a bag of clothes. He wanted us to pick a name for him and some clothes for his arrival next week. The children cannot wait to meet their new class bear, Topsy.
On Friday, the children had a fabulous afternoon playing outside with their Year 6 buddies. We can’t wait to have more fun with our Year 6 friends.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and see you all next week.
Miss Dalley and the Reception team
Reminders:
Friday 15th September – Dot Day – Children to come to school wearing something spotty, no school uniform needed this day.
If you have not done so already, please can all children bring a pair of wellingtons and all in one waterproof suit to keep in school.

What an amazing start to our new school year! We have had the most wonderful few days getting to know Year 1 and our new classroom.
We have been getting settled into Year 1 by exploring our emotions, focusing on the film Inside Out! We have discussed what the emotions can look like, how they make us feel, and times when we have felt them. We have considered ways we can support each other as a class to deal with such emotions. We talked about how we go through all of the emotions throughout a week in school, with some of us having a lot of fear at the beginning of the school week, to now at the end of the week, feeling lots of joy! We understand that this is all part of starting a new class and we have lots to be excited about. We focused on our school values ‘nurture’ and ‘serve’ as the children discussed how they can spread kindness to support each other as a class team.
We have had a fantastic start to PE, focusing on fundamental skills, and practising our balancing and jumping skills in particular. We have also focused on how our bodies move differently when we change speed, we have had so much fun testing out different ways to travel around the track: like a penguin, a toy soldier, and Sonic the Hedgehog!
We have especially enjoyed our new outside area, as we have explored the different areas filled with lots to play with! We have spent time in the lovely sunshine, especially enjoying our musical area where we have performed lots of songs and dances.
It has been a pleasure to welcome the children this week, we look forward to making our learning journey an enjoyable and exciting year. Don’t forget to follow our Twitter account @Year1TSP to see our highlights throughout the week.
Well done for all of your hard work this week year 1! We hope you have a lovely weekend, we look forward to seeing you all again on Monday!

What a brilliant start we have had to Year 6!
It really has been fantastic to see all the children return to school with such excitement and enthusiasm. They have all settled in so quickly, there has been plenty of laughter and the ‘Year 6’ team spirit is evident already!
The main focus of our learning this week has centred around our class novel, ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar. The children have enjoyed the story so far and have shown a good understanding of the text as we have had breaks for discussions. We have even been able to make a start on understanding how to write down answers to more in-depth question using a ‘Point, Evidence, Explain’ strategy. As the book mentions ‘yellow-spotted lizards’ frequently, we used this as an opportunity at the end of the week to practise our sketching skills in an Art lesson, working on our fine motor skills before creating some excellent drawings of a lizard’s eye. Well done, Year 6!
Throughout the week, the children have also enjoyed watching several videos that demonstrate our school values. So far, we have watched a variety of clips that have reminded us to be kind to ourselves and others, and also to have perseverance when faced with a challenge as that’s when we experience the greater sense of achievement. Thursday’s videos were particularly interested as the children watched two experiments that demonstrated ‘herd mentality’ and the ‘bystander effect’. We discussed how these situations may arise in Year 6 and how it is important to have self-belief and trust our gut instincts.
On Thursday morning, the children found out that they would be visited by one of Formby High School’s Spanish teachers, Mrs Gibbons. She delivered a lesson to the children on pets, as per our Y6 Curriculum Overview. The children are very fortunate that – going forward this term - Mrs Gibbons will be leading their weekly Spanish lessons at this time.
To ease ourselves back into Maths lessons, we have taken part in a variety of games to revise our number facts and times tables. Chanting, ‘quick fire’ throwing and catching, speed challenges, Blooket quizzes and ‘shoot out’...the children have enjoyed a variety of fun ways to learn.
Perhaps the highlight of the children’s week came on Friday afternoon when they were able to meet their Reception buddies. No doubt the children will have told their parents all about it this evening, but it truly was lovely watching the children get to know each other and spending time together doing various activities. The Year 6 children are already very excited to see their new friends very soon…despite being worn out from all the running around after them! Be sure to check out our Year 6 Twitter page to see pictures of all the children.
We know that many children are excited for our school residential to Robinwood in Wrexham in a couple of weeks. We hope you found Thursday’s parent meeting useful and have received all of the resources via School Spider. Please also ensure you have visited the Robinwood website and read all the information given, including their FAQ page, which should answer any further questions you may have.
Our first set of spellings have been shared on Google Classroom and the children will be tested next Thursday. Maths and SPaG homework will commence after the Robinwood residential.
In terms of Year 6 reading, the children will have daily opportunities to read, either independently, in a group or as a whole class. Those children who receive their ‘home reading books’ from school will also still be listened to individually every week by an adult. However, it is really important that the children are encouraged to read daily at home and with an adult if possible. If you are struggling with book choices, please refer to the recommendations listed on our ‘Learning at Home’ page, or let us know and we will be able to offer suggestions.
Thank you to everyone for making the start to this academic year so wonderful. We hope you all have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing you all next week. We are certain it is going to be action-packed!

Wow, our first week in Year 4 has been full of smiles, joy and laughter. We have had so much fun finding out about our new class and catching up with our friends and teachers.
We started the week with a Year 4 favourite, as we took part in our first book tasting session. We were delighted to indulge in a range of book from our class library to decide which of our ‘courses’ we would like to read first in class. It got a little messy practising our handwriting, as we used shaving foam to practise forming different letters. We were sure to make our capital letters bigger and taller than their lower case forms.
It was important that we took the time this week to be kind to ourselves and reflect on how great we are. Using mirrors that we had designed full of all the things that make us so special we stopped to look at what we love about ourselves. The classroom later filled with anticipation when we found out that the teachers in the room were going to give us an opportunity to see who their favourite pupils were... little did we know that we would be staring back at our own reflections when we peeped inside the box.
In Maths, we reminded ourselves how we can use arrays to support our knowledge of multiplication. In order to complete our buildings in our ‘Array city’, we painted an array to show how many windows each building should have, based on a given multiplication question. We also popped on a hat and high visibility jacket as we entered the Year 4 construction site. On the building site, we sorted through building materials to match the multiplication question located on our buildings to the missing part of the house.
Feeling like the weather was a little too hot for lots of running about at break times, we decided to make our own Adventure Path in our shaded area. Each group created an activity to complete as we ventured down the path. Our activities included jumps on lily pads, spins around the spiral circles and forming shapes to copy the shadows mirrored on the floor.
Connecting with our school values of Nurture and Enjoy, we wanted to ensure that everyone in our class has a very special day on their birthday. We set out a plan to make each and every child in Year 4 a birthday card so we can send our birthday wishes their way when their special day comes.
It has been a real pleasure to welcome the children back this week and we look forward to making our learning journey an enjoyable and exciting year. Don’t forget to follow our Twitter account @Year4TSP to see our learning highlights throughout the week and watch out for notifications on Google Classroom.
A reminder that our PE lesson will take place on Tuesdays and our swimming lessons will take place on Wednesdays. Weekly spellings will also begin to be posted every Friday at 3pm on Google Classroom.
For your reference, the Year 4 Successful Start PowerPoint is attached at the end of this blog, should you need to refer to it at any point.
Well done for all your hard work this week, Year 4! We can’t wait to see you on Monday! Have a great weekend!
Reminders:
- Children to wear PE kits every Tuesday for PE and Wednesday for swimming.
- Recorder lessons take place every Monday.
- To encourage the children to drink plenty through the day, we ask that children bring a water bottle to school with them.

What a fantastic first week spent with the brand-new Year 5 class team! The journey starts right here with plenty of learning, laughs and memory making to come. Bring it on!
Our school motto for this year is ‘Choose Wisely’ which encourages us to be the very best that we can be throughout this new school year. To explore this further, we used the book (and film), Wonder, as our stimulus. This led to a whole host of activities throughout the week, each of which were connected to this thought-provoking, heart-warming and inspiring story!
This has included delving into the mindset of different characters and considering how demonstrating our school values throughout different parts of the story really could have supported the main characters of Auggie, Via and Jack Will. Our discussions centred around Via and her challenge to remember to be kind to herself as well as to appreciate her opportunities; Auggie striving to show positivity and resilience to school life and Jack Will maintaining integrity and kindness to others.
Other activities have included some stunning Wonder based artwork, including a personalised piece bespoke to each child as well as a collaborative art activity where each child contributed a section to the overall piece. We also enjoyed lots of teambuilding activities within PE too. We really have achieved so much in our first week with plenty more learning to come.
Homework will begin for Year 5 children at the end of the following week. This will include a short Maths and English task. Spellings will also be set next Friday for the children to practise.
A further reminder that the PE days for Year 5 are on Thursday and Friday each week.
I hope the children have enjoyed this week as much as I have and well done to them all for working so hard and embracing their new classroom and year group. Have an enjoyable weekend and see you Monday!

What a brilliant, sunny start we have had to Year 2!
We have loved welcoming all the children back to school this week and have had so much fun whilst making the most of the sunshine. Each afternoon, we have ventured onto the field to play a range of team games as well as making use of the incredibly fun, Trim Trail. Working together, we have created our own games as well as playing the classic game, 'Duck, Duck,Goose' a firm favourite. We hope the sunshine stays so we can make the most of the weather in the coming weeks.
We hit the ground running with Maths, and began exploring our topic, Place Value. We explored numbers in different variations, identifying and writing down their numerals and words. After, we focused on counting large groups by grouping objects by grouping them in groups of tens. This supported us later in the week, when we were able to identify tens and ones in given numbers, using practical resources to help.
In English, we completed whole class Phonics, recapping previously taught sounds whilst focusing on developing our reading speed. Using this knowledge, and using images and drawings to support, we developed our writing style, starting by writing about our summer holidays and ending the week by describing a range of images. Next week, the children will be grouped based on their Phonics ability, and will complete work associated with their Phonics books.
As well as enjoying the sunshine this week, we have also been completing a series of activities linked to the story 'Can you build another me?' Using this book, we have explored what makes us unique, identifying our own likes and dislikes, as well as what we can and can't do. After we all decided on one thing we want to get better at before the end of the year, and planned exactly what we can do to achieve this. The fun didn't stop there though, on Thursday we got crafty, creating our own versions of ourselves! It was certainly messy but also a LOT of fun! On Friday, we painted our models, and were delighted when we were able to take them home!
Attached to this blog, you will find a copy of the 'Successful Start' Powerpoint, which was shared before summer. This Powerpoint is full of useful information for the year ahead.
For now, we hope you all have a restful weekend!
Reminders

- PE days are Mondays and Wednesdays, please ensure children are in the correct uniform.
- Children can bring a healthy snack to school, however, please be aware that all children are provided with fruit and vegetables each day.

Well...the day has finally arrived! Today, we said our final goodbyes and finished our time here at Trinity St. Peter's.
Even in this final week, we have still been able to create some final memories of primary school. On Monday, we were able to have our final ‘Sports Day’ at Trinity St. Peter’s. We wanted to have a strong emphasis on our value of ‘Enjoy’ and not take it too seriously. We agreed that if we were losing, we would ‘lose in style’ – just as long as it didn’t affect anybody else in the race who may still be trying to win. There was a great atmosphere throughout and we all had a great time taking part in the different races. Perhaps the highlight was our parents’ three-legged race. Lots of laughter…and lots of competitive parents! We were very impressed with those children who managed to complete the lap with neither of their feet ever setting foot on the grass!
Throughout the week, we have had time to visit classes and teachers to get leavers’ shirts and books signed. On Tuesday afternoon, this provided the perfect opportunity to get the whole class out of the classroom (to visit their Reception buddies one last time) so that we could sneak Miss Browne back into school! The reactions of the children to seeing their Y3/4 teacher was fantastic! Please check our class Twitter page for the video / photos - including some class photos with all of their teachers from the past few years.
We concluded our short week with our Leavers' Service on Wednesday morning. This was perhaps more emotional than our leavers’ production with presentations, montages, speeches and one final opportunity for our pupils to show off their incredible voices as a class choir. There was not a dry eye in Holy Trinity Church!
There is not much left to write that has not already been said in class, at the production or in Church! Nevertheless, Year 6, you have been A-MAZ-ING. We have loved teaching you and watching you all grow as individuals and as a class. Bonds have been made for life and we can't wait to see you go onto achieve even more success and happiness in your secondary schools. We will miss you all.
Parents, we would like to thank you for the gifts and cards this week - never expected but always appreciated - and most of all, for your kind words. Your continued support has allowed the children to continue to thrive at Trinity St. Peter's in their final year.
Have an amazing summer, everyone!
