We are now in our final half-term of primary school!
Since SATs, we have embarked on a rather exciting mathematical venture…designing a theme park! The children had to work together in small groups to design the layout of their park based on the costings of amenities and ride types and ensuring they meet all health and safety requirements, such as including the minimum number of toilets and park benches required. They also had to apply their mathematical knowledge by calculating the running and advertising costs and – from there – deciding on entrance admission fees to ensure they make a profit. The children then presented their ideas, including posters and trailers, and were assessed on their creativity, likelihood of success and business acumen. The children have absolutely LOVED this project and it has been a joy to see them so enthusiastic about completing each task – whilst learning new vocabulary such as ‘marketing’, ‘revenue’, ‘expenditure’ and ‘profit’!
As authors, we have produced another piece of work in our author books. The focus was how to advance the narrative of a story through dialogue, which was tricky as it required the children to revise their understanding of how to include dialogue and then how to advance a story through the conversation.
In Art, we reminded ourselves who Vincent Van Gogh was and focused on his piece, ‘The Starry Night’. The children used paint to create their own versions of the artwork and their finished pieces were great. Well done, Year 6!
To conclude the week, the children enjoyed their ‘Rainbow Day’. Thank you, Team TSP, for organising such a great day.
A special ‘well done’ to those children who represented the school as part of our tri-golf team and also debate team. They were excellent ambassadors for Trinity St. Peter’s!
Please ensure you have checked School Spider regarding our upcoming trip to Alton Towers.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Year 2 – Summer 2 – Week 1
And just like that, we are in the final term of the year, let’s make the next 7 weeks the best they can be!
This week, the children in Year 2 have been completing a series of assessments in Maths and English and we are so proud of the commitment and effort the children have shown and continue to show. Due to being internal assessments, results will not be shared directly but will be indicated in their report towards the end of term.
Next week, in Maths, we will finish of our last topic on Time before moving on to statistics. In English, we will start our new book, a favourite of Miss Jones and a special surprise for the children!
In Music, we began to learn a new song linked to the five oceans. To start, we identified the differences between a chorus and a verse and how chorus’ are repeated throughout songs where as a verse is singular and changes. The children loved singing the song and even came up with some actions for the different verses, check out Twitter for a sneak peek!
In PE, we started our new topic Athletic on Monday, with a special focus on sprinting. We started by identifying the different movements that make up a sprint; high knees, opposite arm to leg movement and large strides. After, we developed these skills by building up to a sprint from a walk, timing our friends with the aim to beat our own score each time!
On Thursday, we had an exceptional morning, with a visit from the wonderful Kate, from Kate’s Krystal’s who will be working with us closely over the next 7 weeks on self-love and self-worth and developing confidence. As well as this, we completed a series of activities in relation to our Young Leaders award. This week, we focused the area ‘Kindness’, identify that all good leaders show kindness and how we should always be kind even when it isn’t seen or recognised by others.
Rainbow Day on Friday was a hit, the children loved riding the horses, completing the obstacle course and of course the school disco. It was truly an amazing day where each and every child was celebrated for being unique individuals!
Reminders
- PE days will continue to be on a Monday and a Thursday for the rest of half term.
- Class photos will be next Tuesday, June 4.
- Water bottles should be brought in each day.
Date: 22nd May 2024 @ 1:27pm

Well we cannot quite believe we are approaching half term!
For RE this week we have continued with our ‘Special places’ theme. The children really loved sharing their pictures of special places and discussing why these places were so special. The children had lots of interesting questions to ask each other, this also let us to think about Church as a special place to visit at times when we want to feel close to Jesus, although we did realise that we don’t always have to go to church to feel close to Jesus.
The week in Forest school, we planted our own sunflower seeds. We also talked about what we need to do to care for our plants to make sure they have what they need to grow. We can’t wait to see what happens next! What great fun we had!
This week we have enjoyed learning all about ‘Ladybirds’. The children have enjoyed painting different types of Ladybirds, making ladybirds out of playdough and also trying to find them in our outside area. The children learnt that Ladybirds lay their eggs in clusters or rows on the underside of a leaf, so also spent time looking under the leaves to see if they could find any ladybird eggs.
After allowing our clay bowls to dry over the weekend, we were able to paint them. They looked amazing!
We wish you all a lovely weekend and a fabulous half term!

How have we reached this point already? The end of the penultimate half term of Year 5! Throughout this half term, we have achieved so much and you have hopefully gained a snapshot of our incredible learning either within this blog or via our class Twitter page. This week was no different in terms of memorable moments in learning with plenty to report…
In our Maths learning, we have been focusing on 3D shapes. Lessons have involved identifying the properties of 3D shapes by building skeleton shapes using blu-tack and art straws. We will continue our 3D shape focus after the half term break as well as exploring 2D shapes and shape nets too.
In our English learning, we have continued our poetry focus using the poem, ‘The Dreadful Menace’, as our inspiration. The language choices from the children were magnificent and they also experimented with a range of impressive poetic devices throughout (including: alliteration, similes, metaphors, personification and onomatopoeia). Year 5 were thoroughly in the zone as they crafted haunting, powerful poems that sent shivers down their teacher’s spines.
We also completed our AR (Augmented Reality) project in Computing. This involved us using our creativity to create our own “scenes” and then bringing them to life through AR within our classroom. The children enjoyed seeing their creations come to life and projecting their scenes and images around the room.
What a week and a fitting way to end this half term. See you all in a week’s time for the FINAL half term of Year 5. We’ll be sure to make it the best yet!
Reminders:
-PE lessons next half term will take place every Tuesday and Thursday.
-There is no set Maths and English homework for next week, however the Year 5 ‘Virtual Classroom’ has been updated and attached to this blog, which includes links to a variety of websites and resources. All pupils' individual passwords can be found on Google Classroom. Don't forget, there is also the ‘Practice’ section on Mirodo where the children can choose any topic they wish to practise for Maths, Reading, SPaG or Science.
-School re-opens on Monday 3rd June.

Well done on another fantastic week Year 1!
In Maths this week we began our new topic 'Position and Direction'. We started by discussing the STAR Vocabulary for this week, we explored new positional language such as left, right, half a turn, full turn and quarter turn. We had lots of fun engaging in some physical learning as we practiced the Cha Cha Slide to perfect our moves, focusing on left and right. This week involved us moving objects and ourselves from left to right, as well as making full, half and quarter turns. After this we moved on to forwards and backwards, and familiarised ourselves with this language by playing various games to put into practice our understanding of positions. We used dice, objects, toys and ourselves as part of this activity, using step by step instructions to move backwards and forwards.
We developed our Net and Wall skills by taking part in our final PE Lesson focused on Tennis. We used rackets and tennis balls to develop hitting over a net. By working in partners, we perfected our hitting skills, and practiced turn taking and keeping score. We enjoyed another game of Catch Tennis and challenged each other to catch the ball without a bounce! Finally, we took part in some partner practice using cones as a net to have a go at hitting the ball using the correct standing position.
In RE this week we explored World Faiths by reading stories about how other religions celebrate specific traditions and festivals. We recapped how Muslims celebrate Baptism and compared this to how we celebrate as Christians. We then looked at other special celebrations within various World Faiths such as Hinduism.
Our highlight this week was mufti day! We enjoyed some special games and celebrated another fantastic half term! We have learned lots and made lots more memories. I am so proud of all of your wonderful work during Summer 1, and can't wait to have an even greater Summer 2! Have a great week everyone, thank you for all the continued support!

Date: 19th May 2024 @ 11:55am

This week we have been working hard in English planning for our final big write. We have enjoyed studying the illustrations in our wordless book ‘Journey’ and creating an impressive word bank of new vocabulary we will we include in our writing. We have also been using a range of sentence types to create an atmosphere and change in mood. Next week, we will begin our big write in the style of ‘The Tilly Mint Tales’ (our class novel). Using prepositions, conjunctions, speech and adverbs to express time, place and cause the children will use their plan to write a story based on ‘Journey’.
In Maths, we have been focusing on ‘Time’. We started with the small step of introducing the children to Roman numerals and the Roman number system. They focused only on Roman numerals for numbers 1 to 12, using the context of a clock face. By the end of this step, the children understood that numbers in the Roman number system follow these principles: letters are not usually written four times (for example, 4 is written as IV, instead of IIII); if a lower value digit is written to the left of a higher value digit, it is subtracted (for example, IV = 5 − 1) and if it is written to the right, it is added (for example, VI = 5 + 1). We then recapped how to read and write “o’clock” and “half past” the hour. The children were then given the opportunity to create times using individual clocks with moveable hands. Next week, we will continue working on time looking closely at telling the time to 5 minutes and then to 1 minute.
During our RE lessons, we have enjoyed developing our understanding of religions worldwide and the rules they follow. Last week we focussed on Islam and ‘The Five Pillars of Islam.’ This week, we learned all about ‘The Five K’s of Sikhism’. These are a set of symbols that Sikhs wear to show their dedication to Sikhism and to show they belong to the Khalsa.
Another busy week in Year 3! Enjoy the sun this weekend and we look forward to welcoming you all back on Monday. 😊
Date: 17th May 2024 @ 1:03pm

Well what an exciting week we have had!
For RE this week we enjoyed visiting St Peter’s Church for our WOW service. Caroline and Anne talked about how the church is a special place. Anne talked to the children about Pentecost and what it is. We also sang happy birthday to St Peter’s church to celebrate it’s special day.
On Thursday, Caroline came in to talk to the children about what happens during holy communion at church. Caroline showed the children a special cloth that is used and the chalice. The children were then able to taste the wafer that would be blessed by vicar in church. Thank you, Caroline for a lovely session.
This week we were very excited to see that our butterflies had hatched out of their cocoons, some of the children were even lucky enough to watch it happen! We then went to the outdoor area to set them free. We thought about where they might go next!
The children were very excited to explore using clay this week. We first felt the clay and practiced manipulating it with our fingers and using different tools. After a discussion, we decided that we were going to make bowls for our little treasures that we may have at home. Well done Reception, they look amazing!
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and see you next week!

Reminders:
Friday 24th May – Break up for half term
Date: 16th May 2024 @ 10:16am
The end of term is upon us, our spirits are high and we have lots of reasons to feel proud of ourselves this term.
In Collective Worship, we considered all the times we have been courageous by facing your fears and showing strength in the face of adversity. We recognised how courage refers not only to physical courage but also to moral or emotional courage. As a class, we decided that our favourite courageous moment this term was our efforts to face our fears and enter the Bat Cave at Chester Zoo! In RE, we designed notice boards worth of stading outside our local churches. Our notcie boards promoted the special uses a church has, that enable our communities to come together.
We moved onto looking at time in Maths, reminding ourselves of how to read an analogue clock before moving onto converting and comparing different units of time. We identified how often a leap year and discussed how there are approximately 4 weeks in a month, although most months are slightly longer than this.
It was a joy to revisit some of our English books from Year 2 and look back at a piece of poetry we wrote inspired by the Matilda Musical song ‘When I grow up’. From Lamborghinis to flying off to space, our dreams had no limits! We adopted our poems from two years ago and changed the verses to include a more up to date focus on our future hopes and dreams, consider the hopes we have for others too. We used a repetitive pattern and the phrase ‘so that I’ to add justification for our hopes and dreams. Our poems are definitely worthy to be read aloud on the West End Stage!
In Spanish, we learnt the Spanish words associated with the items we use daily in the classroom and the equipment we need to support our learning. We learnt how we can use the phrase ‘Tengo’ to mean ‘I have’ and add the Spanish word for the equipment in front of us to finish the phase to explain to someone the things we have in our pencil class. Our focus turned to considering whether to use ‘un’ or ‘una’ and how ‘mi’ should be used if we are talking about an item that is mine.
Please see or updated virtual classroom attached to this blog if you would like to explore any of the themes we will be exploring after the half term.
Have a restful Half Term, Year 4!
Date: 16th May 2024 @ 9:59am
Another great week in Year 4!
It was time to get crafty in RE and design our very own churches. Taking a step by step approach to outline the church building, we then added the finer details to show our awareness of the features in a church. Our churches came to life with the addition of stain glasses windows, created using coloured tissue paper to make our desired effect.
Excitement filled the classroom as our preparations and research projects for Chester Zoo got underway. After analysing virtual information boards around the zoo, we created our own information board bursting with factual information about the rainforest and the wildlife that might be found inside it. We selected our own catchy headings, pictures, 3 second summary and sub-headings to support the factual information we recorder to share with the reader. We recognised the importance of making the information board engaging to read and discussed how the use of questions, alliteration and both headings and sub-headings can contribute towards this.
As we draw closer to carrying out our Multiplication Check, we are focusing on the tricky times tables that require a few tricks and tips to help us master. Learning through songs, games and number lines are all strategies we are finding help us grasp the trickier facts we need to recall. We have also been confirming our understanding of converting pence to pounds, finding change and solving money problems by combining and sharing amounts of money.
What a day we had on Friday! If the coach trip itself wasn’t exciting enough, our smiles filled the zoo as we watched the elephants showering, tigers roaring and penguins gliding. We headed off to explore different enclosures, spoke to many of the Zoo Keepers and ventured through their very own rainforest. To conclude the day, we mustered up the courage to enter the free flying bat cave.
Date: 15th May 2024 @ 2:31pm

Well, we are one week closer to the holidays, and we have certainly had a blast!
We have to start by talking about our amazing school trip which was hosted by the wonderful Southport Eco Centre. Julie, our guide, took us on a detailed tour of the beach and sand dunes where we learnt a wealth of information. We were shocked to learn how much the beach has eroded over the years and how many protected, endangered animals there are. We all agreed that we must do more to protect our coast line such as ensuring we take our rubbish home after every visit!
This week, we also covered our RSE topics, ensuring we recapped prior learning from Year 1 – identifying and using the correct names for the different parts of our body including our privates as well as discussing the word consent. After, we looked at how we have changed over time recognising the similarities and differences between ourselves now, and as a baby this allowed us to explore the life cycles over other animals, with a special focus on frogs.
In English, we finished reading our story, The Last Wolf, and were happy to see Little Red Riding Hood identify how she can help the animals in the forest by replanting trees. We then planned our own letters to other people, real and fairy tale, attempting to persuade them to help out too.
In Maths, we stared our new topic on time, first recapping reading the time to the o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past. After, we explored reading time to in the 5-minute intervals. Next week, we will continue to explore the topic on time in more detail.
On Friday, we had our termly Computing Day. This term we developed out uploading skills, focusing on uploading images, text and voice notes to our Seesaw platform, all with a Maths theme.
Reminders
- PE days will continue to be on a Monday and a Thursday.
- Children should bring their own bottle, cap and sun cream to school. They should be, where possible, be able to apply the sun cream themselves as staff are unable to apply this to their face’s.
Date: 15th May 2024 @ 2:22pm

We have had another great week in Year 1! Well done on all of your hard work everyone!
We began this week by focusing on Fractions, we have been working on finding a half and a quarter of shapes and objects. We started by using various sized and coloured shapes to explore making half, we had a brilliant understanding of how 2 halves make a whole. We then developed our learning by recognising and finding a quarter of various shapes and objects. We started by folding and cutting shapes into 4 equal parts, then put our learning into practice by independently working on questions.
In RE this week we explored how other World Faiths celebrate Baptism. We discussed what we already know about Baptism and how Christians celebrate Baptism. We learned about how Muslims celebrate Baptism, and considered the similarities and differences of how the two world faiths celebrate the special day.
We enjoyed a very calm yoga session on Wednesday as we developed our skills in PE, we have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about yoga and how it helps both our mind and body. As a part of our Net and Wall game topic in PE we extended our skills by using a tennis racket to practice new tricks. We played a game of floor tennis to develop our sending and receiving skills.
Our highlight of the week was our Computing day! We love getting onto the iPads and trying out lots of new skills. We find this day very exciting! This week explored mini beasts linking with our Science topic on plants, we went on a hunt to find any hidden mini beasts on our school grounds.
Well done on another fantastic week Year 1!
Date: 15th May 2024 @ 9:58am

What a fun time we have had this week.
On Wednesday we went to our WOW service where Anne talked about the upcoming trip to Uganda. On Thursday we were delighted to see Caroline from Church who had come to school for our Godly Play time. Caroline told the children the story ……….. and talked about ……….. Thank you so much Caroline and Anne.
The children and continuing to amaze us with their phonics knowledge and this week enjoyed learning the sound ‘t’. They have also been exploring 3D shapes for Maths, we particularly enjoyed using the wooden blocks to make bridges using cubes and cuboids as well as spotting cylinders and exploring how they roll and stack.
The children have also spent some time as part of our RSE week talking about families and how all our families are made up of different people, some of the children don’t have any brothers or sisters and some of the children do. We also discussed how there may be different people who live in our house and that this is ok. All families are unique and each family is special. We reminded the children how they are all special and unique, all having different gifts and talents to offer.
We hope you have a lovely weekend!
Mrs Bevin, Mrs Molloy and the Nursery team
Reminders:
Friday 24th Mufti Day - Rainbow Raffle Items
Term Ends - Friday 24th May
Date: 14th May 2024 @ 1:09pm

A typically busy week in the Year 5 classroom! Please see just some of our highlights…
In RE, we continued our focus on Women in the Old Testament as we delved into the lives of a range of significant women. The children completed a range of puzzle activities and matched families together too. Then they were tasked with creating profiles about a significant biblical woman, noting her main biblical accomplishments and life lessons.
In Maths, we have continued our focus on translation and extended this to translation involving coordinates and symmetry. Next week’s Maths will move on to 3D shape, reflection and rotation.
In our English learning, we have begun our new writing focus which is centred around poetry. Using a classic BBC advert used for the Winter Olympics titled ‘The Dreadful Menace’, this encapsulating, eerie advert is narrated by a powerful, domineering voice. This ‘Dreadful Menace’ that promises to ‘summon armies of wind and rain and snow' is, in fact, a mountain. The children loved hearing this poem with the accompanying imagery of the advert itself. They also engaged brilliantly with the opportunity to explore the figurative language and poetic devices used throughout. Next, Year 5 will attempt to create haunting poetic versions of their very own!
An excellent week and we hope that the sunshine returns for this weekend!
Reminders:
-Homework will continue to be set via Mirodo (as usual) for this week and spellings will continue to be set via Google Classroom.
-As per previous reminders via School Spider, next week is RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) week across the school.
Date: 14th May 2024 @ 7:53am

Well...what a week indeed!
After plenty of preparation and build-up, the time to sit our KS2 SATs finally arrived! We could not be any prouder of all the children; they showed such positivity, resilience and optimism throughout the week. Despite the 'dull' nature of sitting assessments, we did also manage to find many opportunities to have laughs along the way too and the children agreed that the SATs process wasn't actually as bad as they thought it could be! Lots of the children would like to visit the Year 5 children before the end of term to let them know this too. Well done, everyone - you are all superstars!
On Friday, we had our post-SATs celebration at Formby Beach. Lots of well-deserved rest and fun was had...and the sun was shining! A great end to the week.
We hope the children all have a well-earned break this weekend..they certainly deserve it!
See you all on Monday!
Date: 10th May 2024 @ 3:36pm

Another week closer to summer, and what a week it has been even though it has only been 4 days!
In Maths, we finished off our topic on Fractions, identifying and finding quarters, thirds and three quarters of given numbers both pictorially and using abstract methods. The children have worked extremely hard at this and have shown true determination. Next week, we will start our new topic, time.
In English, we continued to read our story and found out that the Last Wolf no longer had food to eat due to the forest being cut down and the lack of habitats for his prey. We then decided to come up with solutions to help the the wolf and his friends. Later in the week, we had to help Little Red Riding Hood get home safely, and using the map of the woods, we created our own paths from the Last Wolf's house to her house. We then told our friends the instructions to get home and wrote our instructions using adjectives and adverbs to make our writing more interesting.
In Geography, we explored the coasts of the United Kingdom and itdentified the human and physical features and compared them to the beaches around the world. As well as this we recapped the oceans and seas surronding the United Kingdom.
In Art, we made started out topic on clay and over the course of the afternoon we practised and learnt how to mold the clay, and make various shapes by rolling it into a ball, sausage and other shapes like triangles. This allowed us to create our own models of various things like cats, birds, dogs and even a snail.
Reminders
- Our school trip is next Wednesday 15th May in the moring. Please ensure your child is in long trousers and a sun hat.
Date: 10th May 2024 @ 11:30am

A shorter week but still equally full of highlights and achievements for our brilliant Year 5 class! Here are just a few of them…
Our Maths work has focused on plotting coordinates across four quadrants. Alongside games of battleships against our shoulder partners, we also channelled our inner Mondrian as we created our own artwork using coordinate grids in the style of Piet Mondrian’s iconic images. Next week, we will extend our learning onto translation using coordinate grids.
In English, we completed our author book work which was the culmination of our writing from the half term so far. The children were tasked with writing a scathing letter to a local councillor concerning some pollution within the local area. To achieve this, the children had to apply knowledge gained from our lessons on environmental awareness from our focus picturebook, ‘The Paperbag Prince’. The children’s impressive writing was also accompanied by some equally impressive artwork of a toxic wasteland known as the Poison Pool.
In RE, we began our new unit that focused upon ‘Women in the Old Testament’. The aim of this is to widen the children’s knowledge and understanding of the role and significance of women in the Bible and God’s big story. Our first lesson involved us completing some code breaking activities that provided us with the name of a significant female biblical figure and their role. This enabled us to expand our knowledge base.
Just think of how much we will be able to achieve in five days rather than four next week! Until then…enjoy the weekend!
Date: 10th May 2024 @ 8:09am

It has certainly been a week of hard work and revision!
Classroom displays have been hidden, tables have been rearranged and the children have been informed on how to complete the front page correctly…so there shouldn’t be any surprises on Monday! As per the last few weeks, we have continued to revise our Maths, SPaG and reading skills through the use of past papers, as well as songs, games and activities. The children have worked incredibly hard and we don’t think they could be any further prepared.
To conclude the week, the children went outside for a short break and returned to class to find…it had been transformed into a SPaG rave! Glow sticks were in full force as the children danced around to some of our favourite Grammasaurus songs. It was wonderful to see all the children having fun, but it was even better to see some children, who began the year rather reserved with this sort of activity, showing no shame with their singing and dance moves! What a great way to end the week!
We hope all the children are able to have an enjoyable weekend. In terms of SATs preparation, they should do whatever will help them relax, whether that means doing some final revision to boost their confidence or having a three-day break. Regardless of the outcome, we are extremely proud of all them and the hard work they have shown throughout the academic year.
We cannot wait to celebrate their efforts next Friday on the beach!
Date: 9th May 2024 @ 2:50pm

Well these weeks are truly flying by! The children are having so much fun and particularly enjoying spending time outside exploring the world around them.
This week we were excited to see that over the weekend our caterpillars had gone into their cocoons, so we are just waiting to see how long before we get beautiful butterflies. We have thought about what Butterflies may like to eat and have tried to plant different things in the outside area to attract them. We have also enjoyed lots of different activities around the classroom and particularly making our own butterfly prints and using new vocabulary like ‘symmetrical’ when discussing the patterns on the Butterfly wings.
At the start of the week we also started to discuss what we know about Frogs and completed a class circle map to begin our learning. We will have to see next week how much more we can add to our circle map!
On Thursday it was scooter day! Reception put their helmets, knee pads and elbow pads on ready to take part in a fun session. The children learnt lots of new tricks. It was so lovely to see the children having a go, even if they found it tricky, just like our SHINE friend Leo. Well done everyone!
We wish you all a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday.

Reminders:
Wednesday 15th May – WOW service 2pm @ St Peter’s Church
Friday 24th May – Break up for half term
Date: 9th May 2024 @ 9:26am

A short, yet productive, week for us in Year 4!
Thinking about the colours we spotted when visiting St. Peter’s church last week, we reflected on why these particular colours are used within the church and the meaning behind them. After exploring what each colour signifies, we connected the colours to events in the Christian calendar such as Advent, Lent and Easter and identified the colour we would associated with each event or celebration.
In Maths, we compared amounts of money and recognised the notes or coins needed to make an amount greater than or less than a given amount. Using our understanding of rounding, we focused on recognising the nearest pound our amounts were closest to and visited the Year 4 TSP Sweet Shop again to check the change was correct when we purchased an item.
After reminding ourselves of the key features of a non-chronological report, we turned our attention to a group of cute Sloths and researched factual information we could use in our very own non-chronological report. Our facts were then grouped into paragraphs, as we allocated a suitable sub-heading to each paragraph, thought of a catching heading and added pictures to match our facts.
We were thrilled to have been given the opportunity to have a Skateboarding lesson on Thursday! With our helmets and knee pads on, we used our balance and coordination skills to not only control the movement of the skateboard but keep ourselves balanced when taking our feet off the ground.
Have a wonderful weekend, Year 4.
Date: 8th May 2024 @ 12:00pm
The children and continuing to amaze us with their phonics knowledge and this week enjoyed learning the sound ‘d’. They have also been exploring 2D shapes rectangles, triangles and circles. Why not see what shapes you can see in the environment if you are out for a walk?
The children are still enjoying our theme ‘Under the Sea’, we have enjoyed singing the song ‘I have a little Turtle’ and learning the actions that go with it. Why don’t you ask if your child can sing it for you? We loved learning about Turtles, we found out that they like to live most of their life underwater but do need to pop up for air to help them breathe. We also found out that the turtles lay their eggs in the sand and when hatched the turtles have to scurry to the sea. We then enjoyed making our own turtle from a paper plate.
We have also enjoyed exploring and learning about Snails – we have enjoyed them inside the classroom holding then and exploring their different features.
We hope you have a lovely weekend!

What another incredible week we have had in Year 2! It is safe to say; the weather has truly made it 10 times better too.
PE has certainly been a highlight of the week due to us getting the climbing frame out! The children worked in groups to practice their balances on a series of apparatus as well as on the climbing frame itself. First however, they started by developing their confidence climbing to certain heights, passing through the frame and dismount, even the most confident children were slightly apprehensive! As well as this, we have been developing of our understanding of Net and Wall games and this week focused on developing our ‘block’, using on knowledge from last week in terms of the ‘ready position’ to stop the ball as it moved towards us from a ‘roll’.
In Science, we explored the different types of plants, exploring fruit, vegetables, herbs and plants we do not eat. We were shocked to learn that you would never find a vegetable growing on a tree! The children then discussed the similarities and differences of fruit and vegetables.
In Maths, we extended out learning of Fractions, and explored thirds, first looking at how it was written numerically. After the children solved a series of questions relating to all the fractions taught so far and spotted that only numbers that belonged to the 3 times table could be split into thirds. Next week, we will continue to look at fractions, finishing off this topic by the end of the week!
Reminders

A huge well done on another brilliant week Year 1. I am so proud of your fantastic efforts this week.
We began this week with a new Maths topic on Multiplication, we started by counting in 2s, 10s and 5s. We demonstrated fantastic counting skills and enjoyed practicing these by singing some of our favourite counting songs! We then moved onto making equal groups, we did this practically by using small and large hoops within the classroom to group quantities. We focused on new STAR vocabulary this week such as groups, equal and unequal.
We celebrated Earth Day on Monday and created our own Artwork using paint and our colour-mixing skills. We explored how important it is that we help our wonderful world by caring for the environment.
In History, we enjoyed another fun-filled lesson. We began by sorting a variety of images in order of when they would have been played with. We discussed the 3 generations and took on the roles of our parents and grandparents. We talked about the clothes the different generations would have worn, as well as the time frame they would have lived in. We acted out each character and had the chance to play with a very special suitcase full of toys through time! We used our historical enquiry and reasoning skills to explain why we thought these toys would have been played with.
We focused on British Values as we explored some brilliant new books! Our reading ambassadors made some great choices to add to our classroom and KS1 area. We have loved reading books about world religions, we read ‘My Bindi’ and discussed the importance of respecting other people’s beliefs and opinions, are shared some beautiful ideas about how to promote kindness. We also read ‘The Best Diwali Ever’ as a part of our Collective Worship on Reconciliation, we loved learning all about the festival of Diwali and discussed how the character Ariana forgave her little brother.
What a pleasure we had in RE this week, we had the chance to share and discuss all of our Baptism photographs! This was a lovely exercise and allowed us to reflect back on the special day, and use the photographs to consider who was around us, what we wore, and the very special features of a Christening Day.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Another fantastic week in Year 3!
In Maths, we began the week by exploring how fractions can be represented on a number line and identifying how many equal parts a number line has been split into. We were made sure that we counted the intervals on the line and not the dividing lines. We then moved on to counting in fractions on a number line. Counting both forwards and backwards in fractions and then progressing on to estimating the positions of fractions on a blank number line. Towards the end of our week we explored equivalent fractions by comparing multiple number lines and using double number lines. The key focus was to use the number lines to find equivalent fractions by looking at fractions that are in line with each other (equal in value). We reminded ourselves of our previous learning; when the numerator and denominator are equal, the fraction can also be shown as 1. Therefore, when drawing multiple number lines to find equivalent fractions, the start and end points (0 and 1) must always be in line with each other. We concluded this week’s maths by exploring bar models as another way of representing equivalent fractions. Next week, we will be adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator and moving on to partitioning the whole into unit fractions and non-unit fractions.
During our English writing lessons, we continue exploring our wordless book ‘Journey’. We began the week by studying the forest scene. We worked in pairs to explored the page and write expanded noun phrases about what can be seen. We then used our planning grid to add our expanded noun phrases, verbs and prepositional phrases which helped us write our setting description. We were also introduced to new vocabulary; archway, canal lock, dome, pennant, aqueduct, spire and citadel. We were then able to match definitions/ pictures/ words and decide whether a or an should be used as the determiner for each word. We ended our week by writing a paragraph for the scene when the girl first sees the citadel. We made sure to use our writing checklist to make sure we had included; expanded noun phrases, prepositions, verbs, adverbs and similes. In Guided Reading, we were introduced to the illustrated Atlas showing Britain and Ireland. We started by making predictions using the front cover of the atlas before moving on to clarifying key vocabulary within the book. We moved on to focusing on identifying how language, structure and presentation contribute to meaning by looking at the contents page and discussing how it is organised and how we can find certain information on specific areas.
We focused on the ten commandments in RE this week and discussing their impact then and now. We asked thought provoking questions such as; Which of the ten do they think is the most important? Why? Could any of them be left out? We then had a debate where we argued for and against particular commandments. We linked our learning to the British Values by identifying the influence of the ten commandments on the rules/laws of society today. And we concluded our learning by discussing; If God sent a new set of ten commandments today, would they be any different?
Have a wonderful four-day weekend Year 3 and see you next Tuesday 😊
Reminder:
If you wish to complete any additional home learning then you will find Maths, Comprehension and SPAG work on Google Classroom.

Another great week here in Year 4!
To connect out learning with a church within our community, we visited St. Peter’s church to identify the common features found inside churches and learnt about their importance to the Christianity religion. Reflecting on our Collective Worship value of perseverance, we set ourselves a goal for the day, week or term and mapped out the steps we would take to ensure we reached our goal.
After reminding ourselves of the key features of a non-chronological report, we identified the heading and factual information about the amazing Amazon rainforest. We were challenged to create a 3 second summary to explain what the page described and create our own sub-headings, for the numbered paragraphs. With so many words ending in the ‘ous’ spelling, we reminded ourselves of the spelling rule when using this ending changing words such as danger and poison into dangerous and poisonous.
Continuing our focus on decimals, we used number lines to round a given decimal to the nearest whole number and ordered decimals from the smallest to largest, also making use of our greater than and less than signs. We then moved on to recognised a half and a quarter as a fraction and its equivalent decimal.
Have wonderful Bank Holiday weekend!

This week, we have been working hard on preparing for our SATs papers in just over a week. In Maths, we have continued to practise our arithmetic skills while also revising various topics including: measurement, mean and coordinate problems. We have done this through a variety of activities and games, as well as past paper questions. Our reading practice has continued as well, focusing on ‘impressions’ and ‘genre’.
In Spanish, the children have started their ‘habitats’ topic and have been learning lots of new vocabulary – lots of cross-curricular links to Science and Geography too!
A special ‘well done’ to those children who competed in the tag rugby festival last week at Southport Rugby Club. The team put in a tremendous effort and finished in 3rd place – an incredible achievement!
The children are aware of what their homework for this week is. There are also additional tasks set on SATs Companion if they wish to do any further revision at home.
Have a great (extended) weekend!
