This week in Maths, we took our learning outdoors for a number hunt, where we practised rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1,000, and 10,000. We began by using number lines to visualise the rounding process, which helped build a strong foundation. From there, we progressed to solving a variety of real-world problems that challenged our understanding and encouraged deeper thinking.
In English, we explored a diary entry written in 1914. We analysed its key features, including contractions, omission of pronouns, informal fronted adverbials, onomatopoeia, and rhetorical questions. Using this analysis, we planned and began writing our own diary entries inspired by the story Queen of the Falls. The children showed great creativity in capturing the emotions and experiences of the main character.
In RE, we compared the Christian Holy Bible with the Sikh sacred text, the Guru Granth Sahib. The children were fascinated to learn about the traditions surrounding the Guru Granth Sahib, such as how it is respectfully ‘put to bed’ each night and how its verses are sung in the Gurdwara. As part of our outdoor learning, we explored the Jewish festival of Sukkot and used den-building resources to construct our own Sukkahs, reflecting on their symbolic meaning.
In Spanish, the children have been learning how to express their feelings using full sentences. This week, they impressed us by writing their own extended sentences with increasing confidence and accuracy, showing great progress in both vocabulary and grammar.
On Friday, we celebrated Hello Yellow Day, focusing on the importance of looking after our mental health. We shared strategies that help us feel calm and happy, and decorated yellow bunting with messages of positivity and kindness. It was a joyful and reflective experience that highlighted the value of emotional wellbeing.

We’ve had another wonderful week of learning and fun in Year 4!
This week, we recognised Sukkot by decorating our very own sukkah. We enjoyed learning about the traditions of this special festival and reflected on the importance of thankfulness and togetherness.
For our RE lesson, we listened to the story of David and Goliath, thinking about the challenges we face in our own lives. We discussed the values David showed – courage, faith, and perseverance – and then outlined the qualities we would need to overcome our own “Goliaths.”
In English, we put our persuasive skills to the test by writing exciting advertisements for a magic show at the circus. We used persuasive language to convince others to try this new and wonderful experience. We also explored fronted adverbials, learning how to use them accurately to make our sentences more engaging.
Maths was full of rhythm and fun as we reinforced our understanding of Roman numerals through marching to the Roman song. We then moved on to learning how to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, and 1,000, developing our confidence with place value.
In Science, we built on our knowledge of classification charts by creating our own to group living things as vertebrates and invertebrates. It was fascinating to see how animals can be sorted in so many different ways.
Friday was extra special as we celebrated Hello Yellow Day in support of mental health awareness. We created beautiful positivity flags, each with messages of kindness and encouragement. When we connected them all together, we saw how our positivity united us as a class. We proudly hung them in the playground for the whole school to admire and be inspired by.

Well done on another brillIant week, Year 1!
We started the week by wrapping up our Maths topic on place value. We revisited the concepts of more, less, fewer, and greater, and used lots of practical activities to consolidate our learning. We also explored ordering numbers and developed a strong understanding of what greatest and smallest really mean. It was lovely to see everyone confidently comparing and sorting numbers!
In English, we continued reading our story and imagined what it would be like to travel all the way to the South Pole! We thought carefully about what important items we’d need to take with us and packed our very own suitcases full of necessities. From warm coats to tasty snacks, everyone had brilliant ideas and showed great imagination.
Science was all about the human body this week. We played lots of lively games of Simon Says to help us learn the names and functions of different body parts, such as eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. It was a fun and active way to reinforce our learning—and we certainly got our bodies moving!
In Music this week we learned about singing as part of a group. We explored pitch and timing, and practised listening carefully to one another. Our favourite moment was singing all together as a class—our chosen song this term is “When I Grow Up” from Matilda, and we’re already sounding amazing!

What a lovely week we have had!
In Maths, we have started our new topic of addition and subtraction. The children have worked very hard recapping their number bonds to 10 and using this knowledge to learn their number bonds to 20 and 100. Next week we will be working on different addition and subtraction skills, including making ten first to support adding larger numbers and adding 3 digit numbers using their knowledge of number bonds.
In English, the children have edited their stories based on the Troll Swap story. We have introduced a new book called The Troll with a focus on comprehension skills and making links to previous texts. Next week we will be introducing a new story for our next English unit called Look Up which will have a theme of space.
In RE this week we looked at different stories from the past when people were not allowed to read the Bible. We talked about how they would feel and how special it is to receive your own copy of the Bible. The children then designed their own front covers and blurbs for the Bible.
In Science we answered the question 'do our feet get bigger as we get older?' The children enjoyed measuring their feet and comparing it to other children in the room. They then measured the adult's feet to see if they could prove or disprove this statement. The children decided that people's feet do get bigger as they get older but they don't continue to grow after a certain age. It was lovely to see great teamwork and accurate measuring to see if their ideas were correct.
Reminders:
Please ensure all children bring a water bottle to school each day.
Children must wear the correct school uniform. If wearing shirts, they must also wear a tie.
Reading books should be brought in on Thursdays so they can be changed and sent home on Fridays.

We returned to school on Monday fresh (or perhaps still a little tired) from our Robinwood residential the previous week, but certainly full of memories from an unforgettable few days away. It was an exciting, fun-filled experience and a wonderful chance to spend time together as a class. Despite the busy week back at school, Year 6 have continued to show the same resilience, determination and growth mindset that they demonstrated on the trip - an excellent start!
In English this week, Year 6 have been busy putting their persuasive writing skills to the test by creating colourful leaflets all about our Robinwood residential. The children worked hard to capture the excitement of each activity with powerful adjectives, rhetorical questions and persuasive phrases designed to hook the reader. From zooming down the zip wire to tackling the Dungeon of Doom, their writing brought the adventure to life and showed just how much they had taken from the experience.
In Maths, we have been exploring negative numbers and how they are used in real-life situations. We looked at temperatures below zero, goal difference in football and also a problem solving task involving bank balances. The children practised counting forwards and backwards through zero, comparing and ordering negative numbers and solving problems set in everyday contexts. It was fantastic to see them applying their understanding to practical examples and recognising where negative numbers appear beyond the classroom.
In RE, we continued our Life as a Journey unit by exploring a range of inspirational quotes that reflect the idea of life as a journey. The children reflected on what each quote meant, how it might guide someone through challenges or celebrations and which messages resonated most with their own experiences. It was wonderful to see such thoughtful discussions as Year 6 considered how words of wisdom can shape the way we think about the paths we take in life.
We’ve also been busy preparing for our upcoming Reception-Year 6 Buddy Assembly. The children are looking forward to performing 'You’ve Got a Friend in Me' and sharing the special friendships they’ve already begun to build with their buddies. Next week will be an exciting opportunity not only to celebrate these new partnerships but also to welcome and meet our buddies’ families.
A busy but brilliant week - well done Year 6 and enjoy the weekend!
Reminders:
-Spellings have been shared on Google Classroom and the children will be tested next Friday (10th).
-Maths and English homework has been set via the SATs Companion platform and is due to be completed on or before next Wednesday (8th).

What a wonderful week we've had in Reception!
This week at Forest School, our Nursery children enjoyed a wonderful hands-on activity where they worked together to create their very own “leaf tree.” Using a small stick and a collection of colourful leaves, the children took turns helping one another carefully attach each leaf. It was a great to see teamwork, patience, and creativity as they supported each other and celebrated their shared creation.
The children continue to impress us with their phonics learning. We're seeing fantastic progress—well done everyone! Please keep supporting at home, especially using 'Fred Talk' and 'Fred Fingers' to help with sounding out and spelling.
This week in maths, we explored matching sets using our lovely autumn collections. The children enjoyed deciding whether different sets were the same and explaining their thinking, such as: “The sets are the same because they have the same items in.” Great reasoning skills!
We attended our first WOW service of the year at St Peter’s Church, which was all about Harvest. The children sang beautifully and joined in with prayers—we are incredibly proud of them.
In RE, we learned about Harvest celebrations around the world. The children looked at different fruits and used a world map to find out where they came from. They then had a chance to taste a variety of fruits and vegetables—a delicious and educational experience!
Thank you for your continued support. What a great week—have a fabulous weekend!

Another busy week in Year 5!
Children have been writing recounts in English, focusing on grouping texts into paragraphs and using a variety of fronted adverbials. We are at the point in the story where Annie is just about to go over the falls. Will she survive? We are desperate to find out next week!
In maths, we have continued our work on comparing numbers up to 1000,000 in different ways. This has involved using real life maths, including comparing football stadium capacities.
In Science, we took our learning outside to create a model of the solar system. We learnt how the planets orbit the sun and linked our maths work by ordering the number of Earth days they take to do a complete orbit. We also participated in a Live Lesson with British astronaut, Tim Peake, who descibed what life is really like in space: from eating, sleeping and exercising in microgravity to growing plants, conducting cutting-edge experiments, and even the thrill of a spacewalk.
In RE, we thought about how the Bible can guide us in our every day lives. We read some different passages and decided which Christian values they promoted.
Finally, we are incredibly proud of our Year 5 Harvest service. The children have worked very hard to learn lines, songs and dance routines and it all paid off! Congratulations to our superstars!
Date: 2nd Oct 2025 @ 11:14am

What a fantastic week we’ve had in Year 3!
This week, the children have been looking into descriptive writing, painting vivid pictures with words of a thundery coastal setting. They’ve also begun planning their own narratives, ready to take us on exciting adventures next week.
In Maths, we’ve been practicing our skills with adding and subtracting tens and ones. The children have been using number lines, base ten blocks, place value charts and mental strategies to solve problems.
Our Science lessons took a hands-on turn as we explored how muscles work, especially in our arms. The children loved investigating how muscles contract and relax when we move, and even tried out some fun arm movements to see it in action.
We’ve been reflecting on inspirational figures in RE, comparing two modern-day prophets: Mother Teresa and Eric Liddell. The children discussed how both showed courage, kindness, and faith in their lives, and shared thoughtful ideas about what it means to live with purpose.
Our school scarecrow is complete and Paddington is proudly standing in church! The children worked together to bring him to life, and he looks absolutely wonderful.
In Geography, we’ve been globe-trotting as we explored capital cities around the world. The children loved locating places on maps and learning fun facts about cities like London, Paris, and Madrid.
In PE, we’ve been practicing how to transition smoothly out of shapes and add those movements into our own sequences. The children showed great creativity, and their routines are really starting to come together.
We’re so proud of all the hard work and enthusiasm Year 3 have shown this week. Keep it up, you superstars!
Reminders:
- Spellings will be posted every Friday on the google classroom to be tested the following Friday.
- Dance sessions with Formby High will begin on Wednesday 8th October.

What a fantastic and fun-filled week we have had in Nursery!
We have continued to explore the classic tale of ‘The Little Red Hen’, which the children have absolutely adored. We revisited the importance of teamwork and how it’s okay to do things independently when help isn’t offered – just like the Little Red Hen from the story. To celebrate the tale, we had a very special moment during our first WOW service in Church with a focus on Harvest, where the children confidently acted out the story and we all sang songs linked to Harvest and Autumn – the children sang beautifully ad we are so proud of each and every one of them for their enthusiasm and confidence!
As Autumn really starts to show its colours, we’ve been embracing the season in every area of our learning. In our Creative area, the children have loved creating Autumn trees by ripping brown paper to make the trunk and branches, and then use paint and their fingers to add leaves in rich Autumn colours. The results were beautiful and full of texture.
We’ve also enjoyed sharing Autumn collections brought in from walks and adventures with family – conkers, acorns and more! These treasures have sparked so much excitement and curiosity, and the children have had lots to say about what they had found.
Using some of these special items, we created Autumn faces, arranging natural materials to form eyes, noses, mouths and even a few wild hairstyles and bushy beards – it was such a fun and imaginative activity!
Over in Forest School, we joined forces with our friends in Reception to create Autumn tress in pairs, which we then used to decorate one of the site dens. The children showed wonderful collaboration as they worked together to create their masterpieces. We also learned more about our fire circle and the rules that help keep us safe, and we’re getting good at recognising our special ‘Forest School’ call!
In Maths, we’ve been busy exploring Numicon and practising our matching skills, sorting items and finding which ones are then same or not. This hands-on approach has really helped the children develop their early number sense in a fun and engaging way.
Within our Early Listening and Sound Work, the children took part in outdoor drumming activities, learning to listen carefully to different beats and sounds and identify sounds in nature and around them. It was a great way to tune into the world using our ears!
It’s been such a rich week full of Autumn discoveries, creativity, music and learning. A big thank you for continuing to support your child’s learning at home, especially by collecting and sharing Autumn treasures – we’ve loved seeing them!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend, and don’t forget to look out for signs of Autumn all around you on your family walks and you may wish to do a little bit of ‘stick drumming’ of your own!
Warm wishes,
Mrs Grayson and the Nursery Team

What a wonderful week we have had in Year 4!
Our week began with Collective Worship, where we explored the importance of working together as a team. We focused on the Christian value of service, reflecting on the phrase "there is no I in team" and learning how the Bible encourages us to work collaboratively as a community and to encourage others.
To celebrate Black History Month, we listened to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech. His words helped us think about fairness, kindness, and how we can make the world a better place. After hearing his dream, we shared our own dreams for the future — imagining a world where everyone feels safe, happy, and included.
During English lessons, we revisited apostrophes. The focus was on apostrophes for possession, especially the rule about where to place the apostrophe when the word is a plural.
Maths learning involved comparing and ordering 4-digit numbers, helping us to strengthen our understanding of place value. Towards the end of the week, we moved on to Roman numerals—an exciting new challenge that also connects to our history work.
A highlight of the week came when the National Trust visited to teach us about local animals and their habitats. We were fascinated by the natterjack toads at Formby Beach, which quickly became a class favourite!
PE was all about fitness testing. We worked across six different areas, recorded our results, and set personal targets. Next week, we will retest to see if we can beat our personal bests, while continuing to think about how to develop our fitness.
We also want to say a big thank you to Year 5 for leading such a thoughtful Harvest service. They reminded us of the importance of gratitude and of sharing what we have with others, especially those who may be in need.
Thank you, Year 4, for another week of hard work and enthusiasm. We hope everyone has a restful weekend!

What a busy week we have had in Year 2!
In Maths, we have continued our place value topic. We have worked on comparing objects and numbers using the less than and greater than sign. Next week we will be starting our new topic of addition and subtraction working on number bonds and related number facts.
In English, we have enjoyed planning our own Troll Swap stories with a twist. The children have created their own characters and switched the roles of their characters. This week they have written the beginning and middle sections of their stories. Next week we will be writing the ending then working on our editing skills to fix any errors and improve our writing.
In RE, the children learnt about the Dead Sea Scrolls and the unusual way in which they were found. The children found it interesting that the scrolls were discovered by a young shepherd who was searching for a stray goat. They asked and answered many good questions including - Were the scrolls written in English? Why were some of the scrolls damaged? They then retold the story in their own words.
In Science, the children looked at the human life cycle and discussed the stages that humans go through and the differences. We looked at why babies need help from an adult but children can do more tasks independently. As part of our outdoor classroom, we went on a scavenger hunt to try to find the different stages of 4 life cycles. The children had to find all 16 pieces then decide if the piece belonged to a frog, butterfly, seed or chicken lifecycle and put them in the correct order.
In PE, the children have worked on developing their rolling and passing skills. They have worked in pairs to check that they are able to roll and pass accurately to a partner and also as part of a larger group. The children thought about strategies for rolling and passing accurately and how they can transfer these skills into a game.
In Art, we continued creating maps using different materials and equipment. This week the children started with a clear background and used cellophane and tissue paper to create their own maps to create a stained glass effect.
Reminders:
- Please ensure all children bring a water bottle to school to use throughout the day.
- Children must wear the correct school uniform. If wearing shirts, they must also wear a tie.
- Reading books should be brought in on Thursdays so they can be collected and changed, ready to go home on Fridays.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

What a fun and busy week we have had in Nursery!
This week, we’ve been diving into the classic tale of ‘The Little Red Hen’! The children absolutely loved hearing about the hardworking hen and her friends. As we read the story, we talked about the importance of teamwork and sharing, and how sometimes it’s okay to do things by yourself if others aren’t ready to help.
To bring the story to life, we had a special bread-tasting session! After talking about how the Little Red Hen made the bread from scratch, the children were excited to try different types of bread and share their thoughts on the flavours. It was a tasty, hands-on way to connect with the story and explore our senses.
We’ve also started to notice the changes in the weather as Autumn begins to arrive. The children enjoyed talking about the signs of the new season – the cooler air, the falling leaves and changes in their colour. At our ‘Creative Area’, we explored autumnal fruits and vegetables by doing some vegetable and fruit printing! It was so much fun experimenting with different shapes and colours, creating beautiful textured prints.
In Maths, we’ve been using positional language, exploring terms such as, ‘on’, ‘under’, ‘next to’, and ‘between’. The children enjoyed using toys and objects to help demonstrate these concepts in fun, interactive ways.
And to top it all off, we had our very first ‘Forest School’ session! The children were so excited to explore the great outdoors, and showed exceptional conduct walking to and from School. We learnt all about our fire circle and the rules we needed to follow to keep us safe, particularly when entering and leaving the circle. We can now, also recognise and know what to do when we hear our ‘Forest School’ call! In exploring our site, the children enjoyed collecting leaves, and twigs, and learning all about nature. It was a wonderful way to embrace the Autumn season and get our hands dirty (in the best way possible)!
Thank you for another fantastic week of laughter, learning, and discovery. We can’t wait to see what next week brings!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend, and remember to keep an eye out for those Autumn leaves and treasures on your walks!
Warm wishes,
Mrs Grayson and the Nursery Team

What a brilliant week we've had in Year 3! Here's a peek at all the exciting things we've been learning and doing across our subjects:
This week in English, we’ve been planning and writing our very own diary entries. We’ve been learning how to use paragraphs to organise our thoughts and ideas. We talked about why we change paragraphs; like when we start a new topic, a new time, or a new place in our writing. It’s helped our diaries feel more personal and easier to read!
In Maths, we’ve continued exploring place value and how numbers work. We’ve been predicting where numbers go on a number line and comparing them using greater than (>), less than (<), or equal to (=). We’ve also been practising our times tables, getting quicker and more confident every day!
Our Science lessons took us inside the body this week as we looked at different types of skeletons. We discovered that some animals have endoskeletons, some have exoskeletons, and some have no skeleton at all!
In Geography, we’ve been comparing two European cities: Paris and London. We looked at their landmarks, languages, transport, and even food! It was fun spotting similarities and differences.
PE was all about creativity and control. We made up our own movement routines and practiced symmetry using equipment like mats and benches. It was a great way to work on balance and teamwork while having loads of fun.
In Art, we let our imaginations run wild! We drew pictures of what we thought might grow out of a seed; and wow, did we come up with some amazing ideas! From multicoloured leaves to candy flowers, our creativity really bloomed.
The children have really enjoyed working together to make a scarecrow for St. Peters Church. Paddington looks amazing!

Well done on another fantastic week, Year 1!
We started this week with a focus on animals and decided to channel our love for wildlife into our English work by creating fact files! We read some exciting new books all about our favourite animals, such as wolves and tigers. We learned fascinating facts, which we then used to create mini fact files.
In Maths, we discussed the meaning of fewer, more, and same, using practical resources to help us visualise what fewer looks like. We had a great understanding of more, but found the concept of fewer a bit trickier. We then moved on to working with greater than, less than, and equal to, and introduced the crocodile symbols to support our understanding.
In Science, we explored animals even further! We learned all about their diets and discussed the importance of a balanced diet to keep both humans and animals healthy. We were introduced to the terms herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores, and thought of fun ways to remember each one. Our favourite way to end our science lessons is by singing the animal classification song!
We wrapped up the week with another Geography lesson, focusing on the continent of Asia—more specifically, China. We learned about the Chinese currency, some famous landmarks, and interesting aspects of Chinese culture.
Reminders:
- Please ensure all children bring a water bottle to school to use throughout the day.
- Children must wear the correct school uniform. If wearing shirts, they must also wear a tie.
- Reading books should be brought in on Thursdays so they can be collected and changed, ready to go home on Fridays.

This week in Reception
We have had such a busy and exciting week! The children have really enjoyed listening to Oliver’s Vegetables and using the story to inspire lots of learning. We talked about harvest and what it means, and even used real vegetables to print, observe and draw – the children created some amazing artwork!
We have also started learning about autumn, noticing seasonal changes and exploring the natural world around us. We visited forest School with Nursery to spot signs of Autumn and to introduce all to our Forest School rules.
In Phonics, we have continued learning new sounds – please keep practising these at home.
In Maths, we have been making collections of objects, discovering that two is made up of “one and another one,” and recognising when a collection has 3 objects, or when something is not 3.
In RE, we finished our “I am Special” topic by thinking about the importance of names. We discussed how names are sometimes chosen for special reasons, such as being named after a grandparent. Each child wrote their name on a hand to show that all our names are written on the hand of God.
It has been a wonderful week full of learning and creativity. Next week, we will continue to explore autumn and harvest.
Wishing you all a restful weekend and we’ll see you on Monday!
Mrs Molloy, Mrs Bevin and the Reception team

We have had a fantastic week in Year 4!
In RE, we learned about how God chose David to be the new king after Saul let God down. We discussed how God does not judge as people judge—while people may look at outward appearance, God looks at the heart. We explored what God saw in David’s heart and recognised that many of our school values are also values that David held.
During Collective Worship, we created courage ladders to map out the steps we could take to overcome some of our worries and fears. We recognised that even being 10% braver can help us make big strides.
In Maths, we linked our learning to geography by researching the mountains of the UK and ordering their heights, showing how confident we are working with numbers up to 10,000. We also compared numbers in different forms—pictorially, in words, and in digits. Later in the week, a Roman visitor helped us march around the classroom reciting Roman numerals, and we even learned a catchy song to help us remember them. Next week, we will recap rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, and 1,000 before moving on to formal methods of addition.
In English, we were inspired by the magical illustrations from Leon and the Place Between. We labelled features of the circus tent using possessive nouns, and then used the fold-out page of mechanical toys to write descriptive pieces, focusing on ambitious vocabulary and linking our ideas with conjunctions.
We explored the bold, colourful world of Pop Art by creating our own portraits of famous faces, inspired by Andy Warhol. Using bright pops of colour to highlight key features, each piece reflects a unique take on Warhol’s iconic style.
We also began our singing lessons with the incredible Mr Mannings from Liverpool Cathedral. We are excited to learn a wide array of songs this term!
We ended the week on a real high with our first visit to Laurel’s Wood. We took our first steps towards becoming foresters, learning about woodland management, habitat creation, and how we can support conservation efforts.
Thank you, Year 4, for another brilliant week of learning and adventure. We hope everyone has a restful weekend!

It has been another busy week of learning in Year 5!
In maths this week, we have continued our work on place value. We have explored numbers all the way up to 1,000,000 using a range of resources, which really helped us to see how the numbers grow. We investigated the power of 10 and noticed some interesting patterns as the numbers changed. It was exciting to see how each digit moves one place to the left or right depending on whether we multiply or divide. Finally, we challenged ourselves by calculating 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000 and even 100,000 more or less than a given number. It was tricky at first, but with practice we became much more confident.
In English, we continued to learn about the adventurous character Annie Edson Taylor. We held a lively debate to decide if she should go down Niagara Falls in a barrel. The children shared thoughtful and creative arguments on both sides. Afterwards, we wrote letters to Annie as if we were her friends, persuading her that it was a good idea. I was very impressed with the children’s creativity, persuasive techniques, and critical thinking skills.
In RE, we learnt about William Tyndale, who translated the New Testament at a time when such actions were punished. We reflected on how brave this was and considered how our faith and understanding of God might be different if the Bible were still only written in Latin. The children shared some really thoughtful ideas during our discussions.
In science, we learnt about Aristotle and how he proved that the Earth was round. We explored the clever observations he made, such as the way ships disappear bottom first over the horizon and the shape of the Earth’s shadow during an eclipse. This helped us to see how evidence and reasoning are used to make scientific discoveries.
In the outdoor classroom, the children enjoyed creating their own nature bracelets using materials found around the school grounds. It was amazing to see the different colours, shapes, and patterns that were discovered. The children were very creative, and their bracelets were a beautiful reflection of the nature all around us.
Finally, Year 5 have been enjoying rehearsals for the Harvest service. Thank you for your support in learning lines.

We have had another fantastic week in Year 6, full of creativity, curiosity and challenge!
Maths has been all about rounding this week. Whether it was rounding large numbers to the nearest 10, 100, or even a million, or applying their rounding skills to solve real-life problems, the children showed resilience and great number sense. The buzz in the classroom was wonderful as they worked through challenges together, spotting patterns and explaining their reasoning clearly.
In English, the children have been sharpening their reading skills by exploring questions that really get them thinking deeply about characters and texts. They have been asked to consider what impression a writer creates and to back up their ideas with evidence. It has been brilliant to see the children debating their viewpoints, justifying their answers with well-chosen quotes, and growing in confidence as thoughtful readers.
PE has taken an exciting twist with the launch of a brand new game invented by a few members of our Year 6 class! Borrowed from their lunchtime play, ‘Slapball’ has now become a class craze. Fast-paced, full of energy and packed with teamwork, the game has already captured everyone’s enthusiasm. It’s been inspiring to see the children not only taking part with such passion but also showing leadership in teaching and refining the rules.
In RE, we continued our unit, ‘Life as a Journey’, by looking at the key milestones in the life of a Christian. From baptisms and confirmations to weddings and funerals, we explored how both religious and secular events mark important steps in a person’s journey. The children made thoughtful connections between these milestones and the idea of life as a pathway filled with meaning and purpose.
We hope everyone has a restful weekend and comes back ready for another exciting week of both learning and adventure!
Weekly reminders:
-The excitement is building as our school residential to Robinwood in Wrexham (24th–26th September) is just around the corner.
-As lots of us will be away at Robinwood this coming week, no new spellings will be set. If the children would still like to practise, I’ve attached the Year 5/6 Statutory Spellings lists to Google Classroom. These are key words that we’ll all be working on throughout Year 6, with the aim of spelling as many as possible with confidence by the end of the year. The children could pick a few tricky ones, test themselves, or try writing them in sentences.
-Maths and English homework HAS been set via the SATs Companion platform, but the deadline has been extended until Wednesday 1st October to allow for the residential.
-As always, please continue to encourage the children to read daily at home, ideally with an adult where possible. If you’re ever stuck for inspiration, please check out the recommendations on our Learning at Home page, or let us know and we’ll be happy to suggest some titles.

Well done on another wonderful week, Year 1!
This week we continued exploring our class book Lost and Found. We read through the opening pages and thought carefully about how the boy and the penguin might be feeling. Then, we received an exciting challenge from Christopher Forgetful at the Lost and Found Office! He needed our help to organise the inventory of all the lost animals—and we couldn’t wait to get started.
In Continuous Provision, we had great fun role-playing in our very own classroom Lost and Found office. We made important phone calls to the local zoo, wrote and posted notes around the area, and created labels for the lost items. Everyone enjoyed stepping into different roles and bringing the characters from our story to life.
In Maths, we focused on developing our understanding of numbers within 10 and 20, with a particular emphasis on finding one more. We practised counting on to add, and then challenged ourselves by counting backwards and taking one away. Next week we’ll be moving on to one less and consolidating our learning through problem-solving activities.
In RE, we looked more closely at the Harvest Festival. We studied pictures of harvest time and discussed how farming has changed over the years, especially with the use of new machinery. Our challenge was to create our very own harvest scene in the small world area, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
In Geography, we continued our journey around the world—this time focusing on Australia! We began by sharing the fantastic facts we already knew, before working in pairs to play a game of snap. This helped us practise teamwork and resilience while learning even more about this amazing country.
Reminders for next week:
-
Please ensure children come to school in the correct uniform. If you’re unsure, see the uniform policy or email y1@tsp-primary.uk.
-
Children may bring a healthy snack for break time.
-

What a brilliant week we have had in Year 3. The children have really shown the value of 'Hope', where they have really tried there best and not given up!
In English, we've been getting creative with words! We’ve been exploring different vocabulary and how to use it in the right context. We learned how to look up new words in dictionaries and used them to improve our writing. One of the highlights of the week was writing riddles about sea creatures! We worked on using verbs and prepositions in our riddles, making them more exciting and detailed. Finally, we’ve been learning how to correctly use inverted commas for speech in our writing.
In Maths, we’ve continued to explore place value. We’ve been using place value charts and manipulatives, like counters and 100’s, 10’s and 1’s to help us understand how numbers change when we add or subtract 1, 10, or 100. This week, we practiced finding numbers that are 1, 10, and 100 more or less than a given number.
In RE, we’ve been reading the story of Moses. We discussed his role as a prophet, how he was feeling during key moments in the story, and what he did to help the people of Israel. We thought about how Moses trusted in God’s plan and how he helped lead the people through difficult times.
In PE, we’ve been practicing different types of jumps in gymnastics. We learned about how to control our bodies and land safely after a jump.
In Geography, we’ve been researching different European countries. We discovered some fascinating facts about the countries' cultures, landmarks, and traditions. It’s been so fun discovering what makes each country unique, and we’re excited to explore even more about the world in the coming weeks!
In Science, we’ve been exploring the bones in the human body. We learned about their structure and functions, such as how bones protect our organs and help us move. We also looked at the different types of bones in our body, like the long bones in our arms and legs, and the small bones in our fingers and ears. We even got to try some fun activities to learn the names of the bones!

What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Nursery!
On Monday, we celebrated International Dot Day. We arrived to find a surprise 'dotty' package and our classroom covered in colourful dots! Inside the package, we discovered a special book, a message, some paper, and – to everyone's delight – dot stickers! (We do love stickers!)
We read the inspiring story "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds and learned about Vashti, a little girl who thought she couldn’t draw. With encouragement from her teacher, Vashti found the courage to “just make a mark and see where it takes you” – and that one small dot sparked a wonderful creative journey.
We linked Vashti to our SHINE character Leo, who reminds us to be brave, have a go, and not give up. Leo has been helping us all week to understand our school values and follow Jesus' example of perseverance and kindness.
Throughout the week, the children have been making their mark in lots of creative ways – discovering that creativity is all about experimenting and trying new things. We've explored many fun dotty activities, and even had a go at singing The Dot Song together!
In maths, we focused on matching items by colour, pattern, and shape. The children were brilliant at helping sort Mr Grayson’s socks – such clever little problem-solvers!
As part of developing our early listening skills, we went on a listening walk and played a mystery sound game. The children loved guessing the sounds and thinking about what they might mean – many of them said they’d like to play the game at home too!
Even with the changing weather, we’ve made the most of our outdoor play – using our windy day toys and getting creative with brushes and bubbles in puddles!
Thank you for another wonderful week of fun, learning, and laughter.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend – and don’t forget to practice those smiles ready for photo day on Monday!
Warm wishes,
Mrs Grayson and the Nursery Team

This week has been full of exciting learning and celebrations in Reception!
We continued our theme “I Am Special” by exploring the uniqueness of our thumbprints with magnifying glasses. The children were amazed to see that no two are the same! They used their prints to make “Thumbody Loves You” pictures, a lovely reminder that we are all special and cared for.
In phonics, the children are doing brilliantly as they continue to learn new sounds and play games using Fred Talk. They are becoming more confident every day. Please keep supporting this learning at home using the virtual classroom – it really makes a difference! Our maths learning has focused on counting carefully and understanding why we count – it helps us to know “how many.” The children have been practising counting objects, actions, and even sounds, making sure to count each one only once. They are also beginning to record their numbers independently, which is wonderful progress.
We joined in with International Dot Day, a celebration of creativity and making our mark! The children enjoyed making dot-themed pictures and decorating biscuits with colourful dot sprinkles – a fun (and tasty!) way to express themselves.
It has been a joyful week of learning, filled with discovery, creativity, and growing confidence.

What a lovely week it has been in year 2!
In maths we have continued to work on place value using tens and ones. Year 2 have worked on setting their base 10 out correctly in their books to support them with representing numbers in different ways. We have also practised partitioning two digit numbers flexibly. Next week we will be working on estimating numbers on a number line which increase in 10s and 1s.
In English, we have continued reading the story Troll Swap and introduced a new character called Tabitha Lumpit. The children have imagined how the characters could be thinking and feeling and written a diary entry as Tabitha. Next week we will continue to read more of the story and find out why the book is called Troll Swap.
In Art this week we have created our own 3D maps using different materials to create our journey to school. It was great to see the children's ideas including how to represent a Church, a bridge and a set of traffic lights using different materials.
In RE, the children retold stories from the Bible. We enjoyed listening to children retell Bible stories in their own words and it allowed us to discuss why some stories are written using different vocabulary in children's Bibles and adult Bibles.
During our outdoor education and science we learnt about offspring and the names of animals and their young. In our outdoor education we went on a bug hunt and thought about where certain bugs might live.
Book Club was a real success this week and the children enjoyed sharing their love of reading by bringing in their favourite books. They enjoyed sharing their favourite parts of their book with the group and hearing about other children's books. It was great to see what type of books they are reading for pleasure and we would really encourage reading books that they enjoy at home. The children will receive their reading books from school each week, however we would encourage children to read other types of materials, for example, comics, magazines and books from the library. It's also nice to share books with your children that they may not necessarily be able to access independently, so reading to them is still really important.
If you would like some ideas of books that your child could read at home, please find a list of the top 100 books for year 2 on the link below.

What a busy week it has been in Year 4!
Take a look at some of our highlights:
In Maths, we continued our work on place value. Our challenges this week included partitioning the same thousands number in different ways, estimating where numbers up to 10,000 would sit on a number line, and adding or subtracting 10 and 100 to larger 4-digit numbers.
In English, we were inspired by an extract from The Nowhere Emporium. From this, we designed our own mysterious shops that suddenly appeared in our local village. We focused on using description to help the reader imagine what the shop was like and to build a sense of mystery. Later in the week, we turned our attention back to Leon and the Place Between, exploring the use of adverbs to describe the movement of animals in Leon’s circus.
In Geography, we created fact files for two of our favourite USA states. These included the flag design, nickname, population, and area—some fascinating discoveries were made!
As part of our outdoor learning session, we made our own nature wands and name tags using the natural resources around us and of course lots of glitter!
Swimming continues to be a real highlight of our week. It has been wonderful to see growing confidence in the water, with children trying out different strokes and showing real perseverance.
In Art, we explored texture and tone, creating patterns with shading from light to dark. Meanwhile, in RE, we reflected on the values God would want to see in our hearts and how those values can guide us in our everyday lives.
Thank you for another brilliant week, Year 4. Have a wonderful weekend—we look forward to seeing you all on Monday!
