Year 1 - Autumn 1 - Week 2

Date: 11th Sep 2025 @ 6:28pm

What a fantastic week we have had!

Year 1 have settled extremely well. They have adapted to their new classroom with such ease and have taken everything in their stride.

In English this week, we started our first class story, Lost and Found. The children loved making predictions by exploring the front cover. We came up with some wonderful ideas and are now on a mission to help the penguin find his way home!

In Maths, we have been exploring place value, focusing specifically on numbers within 10. We practically sorted objects, created groups, and learned about representation using manipulatives such as counters and cubes. We then moved on to counting on from any number, using ten frames and number tracks for the first time.

In Science, we loved learning about the five animal groups. We discussed some of our favourite animals and sorted them into the correct groups based on their features. We thoroughly enjoyed discovering the weird and wonderful facts about different animals. Our favourite part of the lesson was learning The Animal Classification Song—it is now a class favourite!

We also began our first RE topic, all about the Harvest Festival. We discussed some of the delicious food that God created when he made the world. The children shared lots of great stories about farm life and fantastic experiences of growing different foods.

Well done on an amazing week, Year 1! Have a lovely weekend.

Reminders

  • Children should bring in a small bag and water bottle each day. They may also bring a healthy snack for break times.

  • Please email the y1@tsp-primary.uk account regarding allergies and additional contributions.

  • Reading folders will be sent home on Friday to be read across the following week. We ask that they are returned every Thursday to be changed.

Year 6 - Autumn 1 - Week 2

We have had a great week in Year 6, full of learning and laughter!

In English, Year 6 wrote special letters to introduce themselves to their new Reception buddies. The children took great care with their writing, sharing fun facts about themselves and offering a warm welcome to school life. Once their letters were complete, the Year 6 pupils were able to deliver them in person and spend time with their buddies.

The children were delighted to have this opportunity, enjoying the chance to visit the Reception classroom, join in with play, and get to know their younger partners a little better. From building towers and sharing stories to exploring the role-play area together, it was wonderful to see the older pupils stepping into their roles as caring role models. These buddy partnerships are already forming lovely friendships, and we look forward to watching them grow throughout the year.

Year 6 have been stretching their maths brains with a series of place value puzzles and challenges. From partitioning numbers up to ten million to tackling tricky reasoning problems, the children showed great determination and focus. It was fantastic to see them applying their knowledge in different ways and enjoying the challenge of problem-solving too.

In our RE work, we started our unit titled ‘Life as a Journey’ where we mapped out our own life journeys so far including any highlights along the way. These were brilliant to see and we considered just how much more was still to come!

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend and comes back refreshed for another exciting week – enjoy!

Nursery - Autumn Term 1 Week 2

Date: 11th Sep 2025 @ 5:07pm

IMG_4596.JPG

What a 'colourful' week we have all had, as we focussed on the book, 'Elmer' by David McKee. In sharing the story we learnt that Elmer was a brightly coloured patchwork elephant - we had great fun naming all his colours! We discovered that Elmer lived with a herd of grey elephants and in attempting to look like the rest of the herd, he finally realised his friends loved him for who he is.

After creating our own 'Elmer', we compared our work, discovering they all looked different and beautiful. This made us realise that it's okay to be different, it's what makes us unique and shine brightly.

Tuesday, we found that our class bear 'Ted' had left us a book, 'Where's My Teddy' by Jez Alborough. Ted also needed our help! He had lost his little cuddly teddy bear! Reading the book, it helped us think about how Ted was feeling. We linked these feelings to our class 'Colour Monsters', giving each feeling a name. Luckily, Nursery are great detectives and managed to find Ted's bear super quick!

As our family photographs have been coming into class, we have spent time sharing them with our friends and talking about what a family is and who makes up our family.

I also, just wish to say how well the children are settling into school life and all the busyness that it can bring. They smashed their first PE lesson and are enjoying the responsibility of taking the class register to the office! Such big steps for little people!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and looking forward to seeing you on Monday.

Mrs Grayson and the Nursery Team.

Year 3 - Autumn 1 - Week 2

Date: 11th Sep 2025 @ 10:00am

IMG_8139.PNG

We have had a fantastic start to the term in Year 3!

In Maths, we’ve been learning all about place value. We’ve been looking closely at numbers up to 100 and even up to 1000! We’ve used different representations like base ten blocks, number lines, and place value charts to help us understand how numbers are made and how we can partition them into hundreds, tens and ones.

In English, we’ve started reading our focus book Seal Surfer. Before we began reading, we used clues from the cover and blurb to predict what the story might be about. We even wrote our own story openings! We’ve also been learning about prepositions and how they help us describe where something is in our writing – like “above,” “under,” and “next to”.

In Geography, we’ve been exploring Europe! We used atlases to help us find different countries and learn where they are on the map. We enjoyed discovering new places and seeing how countries are connected.

In RE, we’ve been talking about 'prophets'. We ahve discussed who they are, what they do, and why they are so important. We learned that prophets are special people who spread God’s word and help guide others to live good and kind lives. We discusse the values prophets may hold such as honesty, courage, kindness, patience, and faith. We discussed how prophets help people stay connected to their faith and how their messages still inspire people today.

In Science, we’ve started learning about nutrition and the different food groups. We talked about why each group is important for our bodies, and how to keep a balanced diet to stay healthy.

In Art, we’ve been practising our shading skills using pencils. We experimented with light and dark tones to make our drawings more realistic. It’s been fun trying out different pencil techniques!

In PE, we’ve started our gymnastics topic. We’ve been practising different shapes like tucks, straddles, and pikes and learning how to hold them with control and balance.

What an exciting start we’ve had , we can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings!

Reminders for this half term:

  • Weekly spellings will commence on Friday 12th September. If you have any problems logging into Google Classroom to access the spelling list, please let us know.

  • Reading books and reading records should have arrived home this week. Children reading on the coloured book bands should return their reading book each week on their given reading day.
  • Children should wear PE kits every Monday and Tuesday for PE. Please ensure that on the uniform policy is always followed.

  • To encourage the children to stay hydrated throughout the day, we ask that they bring a water bottle to school.

Year 5- Autumn 1- Week 2

Date: 10th Sep 2025 @ 11:15pm

week 1.PNG

We have had a fantastic week of learning in Year 5!

In maths, we have been working on place value with 4- and 5-digit numbers. We have been exploring how each digit has its own value, depending on its position, and how numbers can be partitioned in different ways.

To help us practise, we played a variety of fun games that tested both our fluency and our reasoning skills. Some games helped us to quickly recognise the value of digits, while others challenged us to explain our thinking and spot mistakes.

In English this week, we began exploring the book Queen of the Falls. To start, we took part in a fun DT challenge: designing and building something to protect an egg from a fall! Just like Annie Edson Taylor, who bravely went over Niagara Falls in a barrel, we had to think carefully about how to keep something safe on a dangerous journey.

After testing our designs (with a few cracked eggs along the way!), we moved on to learning more about Annie’s incredible story.

To bring the event to life, we wrote recounts in the first person, imagining what it would have been like to experience the roar of the water, the rocking barrel, and feelings of anticipation. Our writing was full of excitement, tension and drama.

It’s been a fantastic start to our new English unit—we can’t wait to see what happens next in Queen of the Falls!

In RE, we looked at different versions of the Bible and its various parts.

We had great fun in art, creating installations, using everyday objects. We are looking forward to continuing this topic next week!

Notices for next week

  • PE days are changing to Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Homework has been set on Mirodo, due to be completed by Wednesday 17th. You will find spellings on Google Classroom. Test will be next Friday. Please ask Mrs Houghton if you have any problems.

Year 2 - Autumn 1 - Week 2

Date: 10th Sep 2025 @ 3:27pm

3598559_webblog_large(1).jpg

What a fantastic week we have had in Year 2!

This week's focus in Maths has been Place Value where we have practised partitioning numbers into tens and ones. We have worked on spelling numbers up to 100 and also representing numbers using base 10. The children this week have enjoyed partitioning numbers in different ways. Next week we will be working on estimating numbers on a number line and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

In English we have started our new unit based around the book Troll Swap. This week the children have predicted what might happen in the story and they also took great delight in using expanded noun phrases to compare the main character Timothy Limpet to other trolls. We can't wait to read more of the story next week.

In RE we have talked about our special books and discussed why they are special to us. We then linked this to the Bible and discussed why it is a special book. We compared the New Testament to the Old Testament and talked about the stories from the Bible that the chidren knew.

Thank you for such a lovely week, Year 2. Have a restful weekend.

Reminders for this half term:

  • Monday 22nd September Individual School Photos
  • Children should bring in a small bag and water bottle each day. They may also bring a healthy snack for break times.

  • Reading folders will be sent home on Friday to be read across the following week. We ask that they are returned every Thursday to be changed.

Reception - Autumn 1 Week 2

Date: 10th Sep 2025 @ 2:44pm

Autumn1 Week2.jpeg

This week for RE, the children have enjoyed listening to a story called ‘You are very special’. This provided the children with the opportunity to discuss how they were all very special and that God loves us all the same. The children then enjoyed making their own mirror to look in and remember how special they are!

This week the children have had lots of fun exploring their very first five phonics sounds in Reception – what an exciting start to their reading journey! Please see the Tapestry Memo for the sounds learnt so far, I’m sure the children will WOW you with what they have learnt so far!

In Maths the children have been learning to subitise numbers to 3 – recognising small groups of objects without needing to count them one by one.

For our ‘All About Me’ theme, we have continued to explore ‘The Colour Monster’ and think about different feelings. The children have talked about different feelings and by using the colour monster resources have begun to identify different feelings throughout the day and how different things make them feel.

We hope you have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday

Mrs Molloy, Mrs Bevin and the Reception team

Year 4 - Autumn 1 - Week 2

Date: 9th Sep 2025 @ 2:55pm

rd.png

What a fantastic week we have had in Year 4!

This week’s focus in Maths has been place value and showcasing what each number is worth within a given number. We have been working hard to break down numbers into their thousands, hundreds, tens and ones, find numbers to 1000 on a number line, and partition them using a part-whole model. Next week, we will represent and partition numbers to 10,000 and find 1, 10, 100 and 1000 more and less.

In English, we had an exciting morning at the TSP Circus. We used our senses to inspire fantastic ideas for our creative writing, linked to our new book Leon and the Place Between. We learnt about the importance of using adjectives so our readers can understand what it is like to visit a circus and really grasp the atmosphere. Using a double bubble map, we compared two circus tents, highlighting their similarities and differences with descriptive words. Laughter filled the air as we played a game of truth and dare, helping us to imagine what dare Leon might be facing as the sign in our story asks: Do you dare to go to the Place Between? We made some brilliant predictions about what the Place Between might be and next week, we will create a survival guide for anyone who dares to visit.

In RE, we thought carefully about the values David held and how he followed God’s footsteps, reflecting on how those lessons can guide us too. During Science, we used classification charts to group and sort living things, learning how scientists organise the world around us. In Geography, we challenged ourselves to locate all 50 states on a map of the USA—an impressive task that really tested our memory and map skills! For Art, we practised creating highlights and shadows, exploring how light and dark can bring drawings to life.

We also celebrated Roald Dahl Day on Wednesday, inspired by the fantastic story George’s Marvellous Medicine. In the story, George encapsulates our school value of Imagine, and just like George, we were curious and creative too, making our very own marvellous medicine!

Finally, we commenced our swimming lessons this week. We have been focusing on our school value of Hope, believing in ourselves and showing that we are all fantastic swimmers.

Thank you for such a lovely week, Year 4. Have a restful weekend!

Well...the day has finally arrived! Today, we said our final goodbyes and finished our time here at Trinity St. Peter's.

On Monday and Tuesday, we were able to perform our leavers' production for the rest of the school and our families. There was laughter, tears, but most of all...enjoyment. The script was written by the class and included all the memories, jokes and stories they wanted to reminisce about with their audiences. The children shone in every sense: their acting was superb, their comedy timing was impeccable and their singing was just beautiful. We were all so incredibly proud of them.

We concluded our week with our Leavers' Service on Friday morning. This was perhaps more emotional than our leavers’ production with presentations, montages, speeches and one final opportunity for our pupils to show off their incredible voices. There was not a dry eye in Holy Trinity Church!

There is not much left to write that has not already been said in class, at the production or in Church! Nevertheless, Year 6, you have been A-MAZ-ING. We have loved teaching you and watching you all grow as individuals and as a class. Bonds have been made for life and we can't wait to see you go onto achieve even more success and happiness in your secondary schools. We will miss you all.

Parents, we would like to thank you for the gifts and cards this week - never expected but always appreciated - and most of all, for your kind words. Your continued support has allowed the children to continue to thrive at Trinity St. Peter's in their final year.

Have an amazing summer, everyone!

As we reach the end of an incredible school year, Year 5 have continued to impress us throughout this final half term with their energy, enthusiasm and achievements. Although this particular half term didn’t pan out quite as expected for a certain teacher with a broken ankle, the children have taken everything in their stride (pun intended). It has been a privilege to have taught the class throughout Year 5 and I’m even more excited to be their Year 6 teacher in September!

A sincere thank you also for the thoughtful messages, cards and generous gifts received by the Year 5 team. Your kindness and support mean so much and, although never expected, are truly appreciated.

I would also like to say a heartfelt thank you for the incredibly thoughtful hamper I received following the ankle break. It was such a kind gesture, and although I haven’t been able to thank you all in person, please know how much it meant to me.

As always, this half term has been packed with unforgettable moments and here are just a few highlights:

  • Writing: Inspired by our class text, The Hunter, the children have written brilliant short stories full of atmosphere, vivid characters and gripping plots;
  • Reading: Year 5 explored The Hunter by Paul Geraghty - a powerful picture book that sparked thoughtful discussion around conservation, empathy, and change. Year 5 also continued to develop their love of reading, exploring a range of genres, from graphic novels to non-fiction, through Get Epic;
  • Maths: The children have been developing their understanding of measure, with a particular focus on converting between different units. From grams to kilograms and millilitres to litres, the children have worked hard to apply their knowledge to real-life contexts;
  • Science: Our focus has been on forces, with a particular emphasis on developing our understanding through hands-on investigation. The children took part in an exciting carousel of practical activities, using Newton metres to measure force in newtons and explore how different surfaces, materials and weights affect movement and resistance;
  • RE: The children reflected on the themes of faith, courage and trust in God, considering how Daniel stayed true to his beliefs despite facing great challenges. Through discussion and creative activities, we thought about how people today can show similar bravery and integrity when standing up for what they believe is right;
  • Collective Worship: We have continued using Picture News as the focus of our Collective Worship sessions. Through these discussions, we have explored both the Christian values and the spiritual connections linked to each topic, encouraging thoughtful reflection and meaningful conversations;
  • PE: In sunny conditions, Year 5 brought their best effort and incredible sportsmanship to every Sports Day race and event;
  • Music: After weeks of vocal coaching with Stephen Mannings, the children had the incredible opportunity to perform at Liverpool Cathedral for the ‘Big Sing’ concert. Their confidence and passion filled the space - a magical experience;
  • Spanish: The children have practised greetings, basic vocabulary and simple sentences to build confidence in speaking and listening;
  • Art: The children channelled their creativity into some vibrant, summer-themed artwork. Each piece was proudly displayed in our school hall as part of our Summer Art Gallery, where families were invited to view - and even purchase - their child's work. It was a wonderful celebration of artistic talent and a lovely way to round off the year!
  • ‘Go Outside’ Adventure Day: Year 5 embraced the wild during our trip to ‘Go Outside’. From woodland challenges to team-building games, the children showed resilience, collaboration and plenty of muddy smiles.

To support the children's transition into Year 6, please find attached a ‘Successful Start’ PowerPoint which outlines key information for Year 6 in September.

Our virtual classroom can also be found attached below if the children wished to access this over the summer holidays. The virtual classroom includes links to a variety of quality websites, apps and resources to support the children’s learning.

Thank you, Year 5, for a brilliant year. Have an amazing summer holiday with your families and friends and I can’t wait for everything we’ll achieve together next year in Year 6!
